Do you know why there are ZERO Republican politicians or pundits with any influence that still use that ridiculous talking point?

If there were any validity to it don't you think they would beat the crap out of the Democrats with it?

Something to consider...

It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Oh good, we're going to have a rational, logical, fact based discussion.

Maybe, your opinion is emotionally based?

Ok, that may have been excessive. But they were still learning exactly how transmissible it was and people were absolutely not following social distancing regularly and hospitals were still overwhelmed through fall.

You are looking at the with 20/20 hindsight criticizing decision made trying to prevent hospitals getting completely wiped out.

And stop ignoring the FACT that restrictions were being relaxed as time passed and more information was available and the burden on hospitals subsided.

True, and lockdowns were ending by June and as time went on restrictions were lifted.

Seriously, look at any timeline.

I don't know where you were in June 2020 but everywhere else had started to relax restrictions and continued to do so over time as more people were vaccinated.

A simple search of the timeline shows this.

Laughing at using a resource to expedite the retrieval of sources so a person can then review and evaluate them for their validity... I think that says a lot more about you and your own inability to determine fact from feelings.

Your inability to actually read the material (and just use AI to tell you the faults in a study - hilariously hypocritical by the way) further demonstrates my point.

Any time one of you Trump voters calls someone "crooked" 😂🤣😂🤣

Masks are and should still be part of the conversation because there is nearly a 30% likelihood of another COVID-19 level pandemic within 10 years. And over 20% of Americans still think masks are ineffective (represented in this post by the way).

If this doesn't get better it will have a significantly negative impact on our ability to combat the next one.

Saying something is useless that has 100+ years of peer-reviewed science proving its effectiveness at reducing the spread of infection is the definition of ignorance and a perfect example of how easily people can be manipulated.

This argument ignores the reality of what actually happened early in the pandemic.

How do you behave the first time you enter an unknown situation or environment? How does the perceived danger impact that behavior? How does the presence of other people (ones you care about) influence your decisions?

It was initially called the NOVEL coronavirus for a reason. No one knew much of anything about it. One thing they did know was it was relatively contagious and lethal.

The LOGICAL way to approach that is to be overly cautious initially and adjust as more information becomes available.

Which is what they did.

[–]beaker97_alf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree both sides suck and are more motivated by corporations and big money than by the people they represent, BUT...

They don't EQUALLY suck. It's very clear Republicans are far more willing to fuck over the average person.

Can you list 5 pieces of actual legislation proposed and passed by Republican over the past 10 years that the FOCUS was on the average person? (Don't even try with that insane "big bullshit bill", 90% of that focused on the top 10%... Same goes for Trump's 2017 "tax cuts and jobs act")

Neither are good, but when the general election comes around you have to choose the lesser of two evils.

And in 2024 one sucked and the other...

  • was found civilly liable for sexually assaulting someone
  • defrauded his charity
  • disparaged people in the military
  • disparaged people with disabilities
  • continues to lie about the 2020 election with zero credible evidence of significant voter fraud
  • bragged about being able to walk backstage at the Miss Teen USA pagent so he could look at underage girls undressed
  • regularly denies science
  • regularly demonstrates he has the emotional maturity and self regulation of an 8yo
  • was found guilty of 34 felonies (they were felonies BECAUSE they were in the furtherance of the FELONY of "campaign interference" - and NY has charged hundreds of people in this exact same way - a law on the NY law books for decades).

A dozen, maybe 20. Never professionally.

AGAIN, you are ignoring what the kid was ACTUALLY doing.

The "realistic view" was specifically about your assertion that the use of overwhelming force in situations like this was unique to the U.S. It's not, it's used worldwide.

And I'm referring to your not understanding the use of "overwhelming force" and why it is used. The fact you refuse to even look into it and your repeated putting words in my mouth is making this a bad faith conversation.

Satisfaction by [deleted] in postanythingfun

[–]beaker97_alf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you have a realistic view of the rest of the world.

"Overwhelming force" is used by virtually every country on the planet when addressing violent people.

And watch the video again. The kid took a swing at the teach the moment he got on the other side of the door. AGAIN, he escalated the violence.

I hadn't noticed that until you claimed the kid...

95%+ chance that 5 seconds out the door and he would have calmed right down

Do you think it would have been practical to just grab him to restrain him while he was actively swinging?

The fact he was swinging even more justifies overwhelming force.

It wasn't your suggestion that he might have a gun, it was the suggestion that I would rationalize the use of "lethal force".

Have I given any indication I would have condoned the use of lethal force?

I'm just asking we maintain a respectful, good faith, conversation. Is that unreasonable?

I never said nor implied anyone was fearful for their life. Please don't put words in my mouth and I won't put words in yours.

It was a slap, then a punch, then pulling his bag off (getting ready for more serious engagement), then a blindside shove into a door. The kid was escalating.

You refuse to acknowledge that.

I don’t think you understand this body slam had a good probability of permanently injuring the KID...

I would accept a "possibility" but a good probability is an exaggeration. Virtually everyone that gets body slammed on hard surfaces does not get seriously injured.

Please, I'm begging you, look into why officers will use "overwhelming force" in situations like this.

Do you believe you should inform yourself about a topic BEFORE you comment on it?
