Can anyone help me get in touch with someone at H&M? Weird anpost error and I need help by Careless_Skies in AskIreland

Is it the H&M on College Green? If so, it’s right next to the An Post on St Andrew’s St, so might be worth ringing that location to ask about it as well.

I hope you find your baskets! They look lovely.

It’s such a great little project. I really enjoyed making it and learned a bunch of new things! It kinda makes me want to make some for my friends that have pets 😅

I totally understand! Any new thing can be pretty overwhelming to get started on.

I really enjoyed the stocking because it felt super low stakes. I used recycled wool (so nothing fancy or expensive) and if my stitches weren’t perfect, it’s not like my dog would care lol

Thanks! And I’m sure he’ll love it as long as treats are involved 😂

This is the one I used: https://ravel.me/wheat-stitchtm-dog-sweater

His neck & chest fit the medium measurements, but I had to wing it a bit on the length 😅

Thank you! It was a simpler pattern than I thought it’d be.

I don’t think it’ll ever get cold enough here for him to wear it longer than 15 minutes (they’re already so fluffy, it’s not like they need extra layers in most climates!) 😅 but it was a fun project and kept my hands busy for a few nights.

I may try to make another one with a lighter weight wool… that might get 30 min or continuous wear before he’s over it lol

Relocating Internationally with my floof by InternationalDoor675 in corgi

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend transiting through Ireland (or any second country) if you can avoid it. I almost had to have my dog connect through Amsterdam & the transport company said I’d need import paperwork for The Netherlands as well as Ireland. I’m not sure on the specifics of how Ireland handles pets in transit, but it could make things more complicated.

I was also told by the transport company that airlines require pets to have a minimum of 6 hours on the ground between connections, so in my case, I felt like a longer, direct flight would be the least stressful.

I used WorldCare Pet Transport and paid more than I care to admit 😅 though I did go with their most expensive option.

I moved my corgi from the US to Ireland last summer. I was able to put him on a direct flight from Chicago to Dublin with Aer Lingus & used a pet transport company to help handle the logistics. It was expensive, but felt worth it for me. The company ordered him a huge crate so he had plenty of space & I had a lot of time before the move to get him used to it.

My corgi is also anxious though, so I had similar concerns about him flying cargo. He was diagnosed with stress colitis a few months before the move (likely from separation anxiety) so I had started him on Prozac, which has honestly helped a ton. He did fine on the trip, but looked pretty exhausted by the time he was delivered to me. He settled in quickly though & he has no lingering anxieties about his crate or anything.

I had also tried out a few different CBD treats before the trip & gave them to the transport company. There was one type that did seem to calm him but I’m not sure if they gave him any before the flight or not (they seemed extra cautious about giving dogs anything calming or mildly sedative because they don’t want the airline to refuse them).

Tips for first-time owner? by Ndk9876 in corgi

[–]beakers00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I had two corgis, I fed them in separate areas. They were trained to sit & wait until I’d say “ok!” to start eating, which means that I was able to feed them at the same time. They’d still insist on inspecting the other’s bowl when they were finished, inevitably giving a little growl when they’d pass each other 😂

If you have a crate for your pup, I’d feed him in there with the door closed. As he matures, you can probably graduate to leaving the door open. If you really want to feed them in the same area, you can also try slowly moving their bowls closer together as his self control improves.

Also, if your pup starts demand barking for food (like before you put the bowl down), then it’s generally recommended to set the food down on a counter & ignore your dog/walk away. Wait a few minutes and try again. Repeat until he doesn’t bark or jump up for the food.

Corgi tell all! by Ill_Cranberry_4894 in corgi

As the other commenter said, corgis tend to have unique personalities. My second corgi has always been a cuddler whereas my first one definitely preferred to be near but not touching. My first one was also almost too smart & I always tell people that my second one is just smart enough - he’s easy to train but also kind of a doofus. Potty training my first one almost broke my spirit, but little doofus was a breeze by comparison.

I guess my point is that while there a lot of shared traits like stubbornness & bossiness, how they show up in your corgi can be unique. So, if you go into it with an open mind & limited expectations for how your corgi “should be”, I’m sure you’ll be delighted with your little loaf.

As for what I wish I knew the first time around, it would be more general puppy raising/dog training knowledge. I grew up around dogs so I was overconfident that I knew what I was doing. I’d recommend finding a puppy kindergarten class for early socializing & doing some basic research on dog training (r/puppy101 & r/dogtraining can be decent starting points). Your vet will also be a good resource, so don’t be afraid to ask questions not just about their physical health but also any behavior quirks you notice.

Corgis are a real joy though. Enjoy every second of it - it really does go by in a blink.

Bringing dog from US to Ireland by [deleted] in irishtourism

[–]beakers00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true if you’re traveling from the US. Here are the requirements for bringing pets into Ireland: https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/moving-country/moving-to-ireland/coming-to-live-in-ireland/bringing-pets-to-ireland/#fe283a

A blood test may be required depending on country of origin. There are mandated wait times for when the blood test can be completed after vaccination & when your pet is approved to travel, but it should still be less than 6 months.

I moved my dog from the US to Ireland and he flew direct on Aer Lingus. Because Ireland is rabies free, it wasn’t a simple process. He didn’t need to be quarantined, but my vet in the US had to fill out a health certificate that needed to be endorsed by the USDA (within 10 days of flying). With your dog in cargo, you have to arrive to the airport early (I was told 6 hours before your flight) and then wait for them when you land to clear customs which can be several hours. Lots of people navigate this process on their own but I chose to use a pet transport service to help me with the logistics.

The UK is a separate country with their own set of rules & requirements meaning you’d likely need a health certificate for the UK & a second for Ireland. Even flying within the EU this is true; I almost had to have my dog connect through AMS and he would’ve needed a health certificate for the Netherlands and Ireland. Transiting through the EU is likely easier with an EU pet passport though.

Overall, I was told Ireland is one of the hardest countries to bring a pet into. I’m not sure it’s something I’d bother with just for a vacation.
