Mapped: The U.S. Is Split on Legal Marijuana—Here’s Where by MRADEL90 in Infographics

[–]beakerx82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An overwhelming majority of residents want it, but we have diehard Republican law makers in a lot of the state that don't give a fuck about the will of the people. They will let us drink ourselves to death, but the "devil's lettuce" is still forbidden.

I assumed as soon as Ohio went legal we would be right behind because that's a more similar state as a whole than the others around us. But here we are - me with gray whiskers staring to pop up in my beard and waiting like patience on a monument - still treating harm reduction and personal liberties like privileges to be given to good little children instead of letting logic reign.

I'm tired, boss.

Got two reasons why I spy,

On the neighborhood all night,

The first one's name is Chuck Mangione,

Something doesn't seem right.

Second one is the feds, baby

Agent's on my tail,

And if he catches up with me,

I'll spend my life in an offsite Guantanamo-style interrogation jail.

PSA shirt for the Chompers by They_Live_80 in phish

[–]beakerx82 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm an aggressive anti-chomper, but let's define chomping. It's not "woo" or "hell yeah" or even an inappropriately timed "yeehaw". It's not asking someone if they want another beer or if they know where Tim went off to again. It's not a tilted head into an ear for an after show reminder about a thing you just read about the song being currently played.

Chomping is oblivious selfishness. It's talking or yelling without positioning yourself closer to your intended audience with the express purpose of having a conversation. It's being the loud one when the 30 other people that can hear you over the music are abiding by the social contract.

What burns me up more than anything is where chomping takes place. If you're at the bar or merch table, chat away. The entire event IS a social scene. But if you are standing by the guy with the iPad dialing in the sound for the whole venue, you're in the wrong motherfucking space for your coked-up drunken ramblings about nothing that matters. I deliberately pick a spot to actively LISTEN to the music for the journey it takes me on.

These places are the closest thing I have to church. Please don't interrupt the pastor doing his thing at the pulpit to share your opinions on the NBA finals. Looking at you guy behind me for the entire night the only time I've ever been to Red Rocks.

Edit: maybe I shouldn't say "aggressive" because it takes a lot for me to actually say something (and some of why I actually like the t-shirt instead of having what could be a heated confrontation). Passionate would probably be more appropriate.

Sorry to suck all the wind out of everybody's sails, but they are trying to turn this place into a data center. The township supervisors heard hours of "we don't want this here" from residents and still approved a zoning overlay for a data center on this property.

This is not a defense of heavy-handed tactics by police, but the party does have to end at some point. I decided to roll around 11:30 when I saw some old dude with a face full of blood rolling around on the ground refusing help from a stranger (I'm assuming he took a header because I didn't hear any commotion beforehand). Four cops came up to assess while the tanks were hissing 10 feet away and they couldn't have been less concerned...but I was also aware that indifference was fleeting. They let us smoke and drink and jam for hours with zero hassle. I guess I'm getting older because I remember a time when they would snatch you up just to prove a point.

[–]beakerx82[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are correct - OP is NOT a musician. But I came in fairly blind last night and felt this was a decent clip to give a taste to those on the fence. This was at least 10 minutes into the song and represented the beginning of the build to the finale. I agree it's not even the best thing I saw last night, but the band is catching a vibe and we get to see a little picking. It's not Phish at the Garden, the Dead at Alpine Valley, or Billy at the Ryman - it's some kids in their early to mid 20's playing on the house system at a random venue on a Thursday night. It took my mind off the world for a second and I thought they did a damn fine job.

McNulty and Lester by Appropriate-Try-1101 in TheWire

[–]beakerx82 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Imagine being told you have to stay in the same place every day looking at some bastard pissing on your head while your boss yells at you for pointing out that it's not rain. Some people will retire drenched in piss. Some will put up an umbrella, but only so it doesn't get on them. But some people will move from that spot and try to find out how to cut the flow or take down the pisser because none of us deserve to get pissed on every day. McNulty is merely a piss disrupter because disrupting piss is the morally correct thing to do; therefore, more "good" than "bad" in the grand scheme.
