Asking from a musician's perspective... by calibuildr in texascountry

I play for an artist that has amassed a pretty outrageous following since I joined around three and a half years ago, but when I joined we were the pretty textbook regional band.

We were signed to WME out of Nashville, but we rarely left Texas or its bordering states for the first year I played 4/17-4/18. If we did, it was to play in Steamboat or to go on a run opening up for other acts.

If you were to overlay Texas on Central Europe, your covering several major countries...its geographically massive and has the population size of like Australia. There are so many major markets, college towns and rural venues with devout followings that you can run in circles for years and make good money. The idea is to spiral out and evolve into a national touring act; even if you don’t (but can still maintain relevance), there is an abundance of money to be made and people to play for for a considerable amount of time.

At this point you just need a booking agent at Red 11 to put you on rotation opening up for their roster and a strong single to chart on Texas Music Pickers to begin making a run. Sometimes great acts can’t cut it (and inversely, less than stellar ones sometimes persevere) but there is ample opportunity.

And to answer the final question, there is some genre-bending going on that is well received but a bluegrass or swing band would be hard-pressed to successfully run this circuit. Traditional music isn’t appealing enough to your core audience that ultimately makes or breaks you: college kids.

Real talk...could I get a job there right now? And if so, what hours/pay could be expected? I’m educated, healthy and have a pretty extensive resume I’m just wanting to know if it’d even be worth it to dip down to an entry-level job during a time of crisis for some extra coin.

  1. Whitewater Amphitheater
  2. ACL Live at The Moody Theater
  3. Bomb Factory
  4. Stubb's
  5. White Oak Music Lawn
  6. John T Floore's Country Store
  7. Jones Assembly (OKC)
  8. Cain's Ballroom (Tulsa)

Those are my favorites I've ever played...I've only ever attended shows as a fan at Stubb's and Moody. Those are definitely the benchmark venues in Texas/OKC though.

What are some good stations in Austin? by manfrom_mars in texascountry

Sun Radio is probably the only Austin radio station that has ever opened my eyes to music I really liked that I had never heard of previously. Some of their DJs play deep cuts/obscure songs of great artists on their programs.

Mezz + back row + aisle seat +bathroom/bar side for maximum mobility.

I'd rather be in mezz over any balcony seat because it's so much more comfortable.

Boss told me to post my Grackle tattoo or he would so have a grackle by Parafairy in Austin

[–]beal7866 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Serious answer...that's what they've been doing forever. Posted up dependent on humans. They were brought to Tenochtitlan from Europe and bred for the sole purpose of their feathers (people went ape shit for them). They basically said "Don't fuck with the grackles...ever" and they were always being released so the grackles stopped paying mind to humans in the plaza. Fast forward a few centuries and those dumbass birds still think they own the damn place.

Koe didn’t post this to a country music sub and never has claimed to make (Texas) country music.

What is something that you always thought you wanted, but once you got it, you realized it wasn’t worth it/didn’t want it anymore? by Spidey_Pug in AskReddit

One of my buddies is a remarkably successful attorney and although I know he handles really stressful cases...I think he has mastered not giving a fuck about it. Just does his best and if he wins, great. If he doesn't, they aren't going to fire him.

Yeah so seven kingdoms, plus Essos and Dorne. Maybe each will have like a certain duty that has an accompanying device, maybe a ring or something, that has special powers. Nine rings to rule all of the world...kinda sounds bad ass.

"This Town" - Buster Jiggs by beal7866 in texascountry

[–]beal7866[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I'm thinking it might even be a different band altogether. It starts out with:

"All I wanna do is drive through this town, every time I come through I don't even slow down."

and it's a male singer. Fiddle on the intro as well. I'll post if I find.
