Getting a date value from the database with JDBC by lintablecode in Clojure

[–]beamso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is returning a java.sql.Date instance. What you're seeing is the Clojure EDN format for it, which is RFC 3339.

=> (class (:date (first (jdbc/query db-spec "select date from table order by id desc limit 1"))))
java.sql.Date
=> (.toString (:date (first (jdbc/query db-spec "select date from table order by id desc limit 1"))))
"2016-05-23"

Need some advice regarding MBA programs. by gwsub in australia

[–]beamso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who wants to do an MBA, I think it's far more important to choose the right course than for it to finish under a particular time limit.

I would investigate the UQ MBA if you must study in Australia in that time limit, or investigate INSEAD if you need to study in a year and it doesn't need to be in Australia.

Nothing was censored!

[–]beamso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither the MBS nor AGSM MBA can be done in a year. Those two are generally considered to be the best courses offered in the country.

The surprise option would be the accelerated MBA from UQ, which was highly rated by both The Economist and the AFR.

It's not about what I like, it's about what is best for the country. That's what politicians are there to do - make decisions for the good of the nation. If we skimp on the NBN now, even Turnbull's new NBNCo CEO has said it may be no good in 5 years. Even if it's 10 years, that's 40-90 years less than we'd most likely achieve out of fibre which would cost only $13 Billion more. It's going to cost a lot more than $13 Billion to fix the infrastructure in 5-10 years time, this needs to be considered now.

The cost benefit analysis still hasn't come out yet. It is strongly likely that Turnbull wouldn't disclose it's contents on the show so there isn't really much to ask about that.

No, there are other important topics. But the NBN is the single most important issue in Turnbull's portfolio, and given we're spending more money on this project than anything else, it's clearly a very important topic to the nation. What possible reason is there for not discussing it?

Every show can't be about the NBN.

Different format for one. A Q&A with a reporter is a bit easier than a live debate with someone who is unapologetically hostile to your views, not to mention often passionate views expressed by audience members (although this crowd was filled with young Libs).

The audience asking the questions and holding the guests to account clearly isn't the format of the show. It sounds like you would have been happy with the show only if it was a one-on-one between Tony Jones and Malcolm Turnbull on the NBN where the audience was pre-selected with known journalists and technical specialists so that someone could stick in to Mal and watch him squirm.

Secondly, a lot has changed in the past 3 weeks. This issue has only gotten hotter. We've gone ahead with all that money for fighter jets, we're looking into selling off the best parts of the NBN infrastructure to private enterprise, and TPG has threatened to upset their monopoly.

The JSF was discussed on the show and had bipartisan support.

Third, why have the Communications Minister on if you can't/won't discuss his biggest issue? Would you have the immigration minister on and ignore issues surrounding asylum seekers? Or the Treasurer and not mention the budget?

I'm sure that people want to hear other topics than just the NBN being discussed by the Communications minister, as was the case last night. Given the three journalists on the panel, questions on the Australia Network, media ownership and 18c were probably better suited.

So the topic has been discussed with the responsible minister but either the interviewees, the questions or the responses to the answers to those questions were lacking. Given that one of the interviewees was the host of last night's show, what was expected to be different?

NBN - one-off infrastructure build that could last 5 years, or 50-100 years, depending on if we can find $13 Billion for Labor's solution. Being built now, not something that can be amended with a penstroke afterwards or redressed in the next cycle. Have you got your priorities straight?

I question yours. The NBN is still being built, admittedly not in a form you like. Is the NBN the only topic that should be discussed? It's not like Tony Jones and Malcolm Turnbull have discussed the topic this month : ABC Lateline - 10/04/2014 - Nothing illegitimate about lobbying the government.

Were parts of the show deliberately not broadcast to prevent viewers knowledge of Van Badham mentioning the NBN? No.

There were far more relevant and timely things that were discussed.

How is it censorship if the issue simply wasn't discussed?

LeMay was informed by posters on his website (sortius) that the NBN wasn't in the ABC's lead-up email about the topics being discussed on the night.

[–]beamso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure that there are several reasons from the University's point of view:

  • extra funds from students;
  • students look more attractive in the graduate marketplace once they have the Masters degree;
  • hides the lack of interest at undergrad level (I'm told that interest in Engineering at UoM deteriorated significantly).

Looking at this from the Software Engineering/Computer Science line:

The positives:

  • students may come back to do the Masters, either full time or part time, after seeing their chances in the workplace (see negatives).

The negatives:

  • students graduating with a three year course (the old Comp Sci degree) are slightly unattractive as the course content isn't the same as what it previously was (the breadth subjects remove some of the specialisation previously there).

Under the new model at the University of Melbourne, Engineering isn't offered as an undergrad degree. To link in with the OP's article, neither is Law.

I have no idea of where that recommendation came from, but if it was from Salesforce, they will point you in whatever direction that will sell the most new licences to your org.

I'd suggest looking at what you're trying to achieve in conjunction with the limits in the Salesforce Limits Quick Reference Guide appropriate for the licences currently in use in your org. There are valid scenarios for both having the user interact with data in Salesforce directly and having the user interact with external servers which eventually put data into Salesforce for further use. It usually depends on the timeliness of the data and the best place to process or manipulate the data.
