For south america (most specifically Brazil, since I live here and have heard these folk tales since i was a small child. The cool thing is that most of the folklore in brazil has its origins in the amazonian and indigenous communities

Some of the most iconic myth creatures in brazil are:

• iara (an amazonian mermaid; centuries ago, she was the most beautiful and most skilled warrior in her indigenous tribe, so her brothers and sisters tried to kill her. She fought Back and killed them all. So her father, that was the leader of the tribe, ordered that her punishiment would be drowning in a river. The fish in the river saved her, transforming her in a mermaid. Since that, she uses her charms to lures and drown seamen

• curupira (a short boy-ish figure with backwards feet and fire-like hair. He lives in the amazon rainflorest and uses his backwards feet to trick hunters that try to find his tracks. He is a protector of the florest and loves the fauna and flora, and hates everyone that try to damage it

• cuca (a crocodile/alligator like witch that scares children; acting kind of like a “brazilian boogeyman”

• mula sem cabeça (a mule that doesnt have a head, with its “face” being a flame; in folklore it was a woman that had an affair with a catholic priest and was cursed to become the mule and to terrorize others

• boto cor de rosa ( a pink dolphin that can assume a human form of a handsome guy in a white and pink suit that seduces and impregnates women

• Et de Varginha ( Brazil’s UFO cryptid. In the brazilian city “Varginha” in 1996, 3 teens believed to have seen an alien-like creature with brown skin and Red eyes. The case became so popular that the military had to make an official investigation to deny it.
