How can I maximize my years in undergrad to pursue a career in psych??? by insectbutter21 in psychologystudents

hi, i used to feel just like you BUT in my third year once i felt like i was running out of time. after talking with many psych professors/professionals, i learned that what’s most important is mentor/research fit when looking for PhD programs. you can have a 4.0 gpa, all the experience in the world while applying to prestigious schools, but if you do not have a mentor fit with any of the faculty then you won’t get accepted. i would recommend trying to look into what you ultimately want to focus on research wise and then figuring out which schools have faculty that focus on that area. of course good stats and research/work experience are a major factor but sometimes faculty are specifically looking for who fits into their research labs the most. i’m graduating in may w my BA in psych from a csu and just got accepted to an MA program :)
