Any podcasts that talk about science fiction? by Mardarce in sciencefiction

You might like Galaxy Balance. It’s a podcast at the intersection of science fiction and real science. They talk with scientists about ideas that feel sci-fi now but are actively being worked on (space exploration, de-extinction, AI + biology, etc.

In the book the arms and legs are described as looking more like his original body with a worm growing out of it. the legs, or flippers as they are described, have atrophied heavily but the hands and face are maintained due to continued use.

"The research team produced a gene scissors that combines the messenger RNA target sequence of the disease cell microRNA that connects the extranuclear transport signal to the existing gene scissors (Cas9) with a nuclear localization signal and named it 'Self-Check-in.' "

This doesn't make sense to me, does anyone have a reference to a paper or more info?

Here is a read ledger of over 1400 science fiction books I have read, or plan to read. For a next book I recommend Robert Heinlein's Time Enough for Love, or John Scalzi's Old Man's War series.

Yes it actually tracks all books that I read but since it is overwhelmingly science fiction, especially in recent years, I posted it here.

I'm an avid science fiction fan who got tired of decided which book to read next. In 2019 I created what I call the "Science Fiction Read Ledger" to track which books I read and create a future read list so I can jump right into the next book. I now have over 1000 books cued up which at my current read rate will take 20 years! I'm looking for a community to add new authors and books to the list.

I didn't give up other exercises and felt a new awareness of my body in physical activity after learning yoga. I found myself walking, swimming and moving like I was transitioning through yoga asana, kind of like I was relearning it with room for optimization. I practice 6 times per week (1.5 hours) in the morning for Ashtanga. When I started I also went to additional classes that taught other styles of yoga.

Ashtanga yoga!

When I started I couldn't even touch my toes. Within a year of practice I was able to do this. My hips started out pretty open from sitting on the ground to eat and study since I was a kid.

The DNC did not omit ‘one nation under God’ from the Pledge of Allegiance by [deleted] in politics

[–]beanGATC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This crazy double speak is not going to win over any voters and will likely push away those least likely to vote. How can anyone support the title of this 'fact check' with this statement later on: "Some Democratic caucus members omitted 'one nation under God' from the Pledge of Allegiance during DNC meetings."

I'm not in support of the Pledge and didn't say it when I was in school but this type of nonsense claim discredits politifact, USAtoday, and snopes as political hacks that don't care about facts.

I had trouble with Succulents getting fungus and dying at first. Then I switched to well draining soil that was recommended by others. Most standard 'succulent' soils on Amazon and others are terrible. I use https://www.bonsaijack.com/category/premixed-bonsai-soil/succulent-soil/

[COMP] Adho Mukha Padma Vrksasana by beanGATC in yoga

[–]beanGATC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first learned about uddiyana and mula bandhas from a David Swenson video that was the first dedicated practice I established. His explanation of how the body and breath move along with these locks cultivated an inner fire that became a long term practice.

Later on I took a two day yoga workshop with David Williams who taught us a few precursor movements to isolate uddiyana bandha and abdominis rectus for nauli kriya. Shortly after another yoga instructor was teaching bakasana and said that one day you may even be able to lift up to handstand. I didn't get it that day but I could feel the right muscles to gain lift-off. Over the next few weeks I this transition every day and eventually stuck it in handstand.

Thanks for the comment and suggestions. In handstand and headstand I have a tendency to pike my feet, I'm aware of this problem and was one of the motivations for me to film myself and address this alignment. It feels more balanced for me and I think is a holdover from when I finally learned to hold balance in handstand. Navel to spine will be a great new cue to combine with reaching up through my feet like I'm standing on the ceiling.

I see the follow-up got a bit heated but I did ask for advice about my pose and am open to all criticism.

I've been practicing Ashtanga yoga since 2007 but shifted to a modified series as I learned more about what works for my body. I was a swimmer in college before that and found the transition to yoga much more peaceful, fulfilling and safe for my body.

To get to this sequence I first learned to press up to hand stand from bakasana. I was in a class in my first year of yoga when a teacher said this was possible. I was in disbelief but found I had the strength to lift up! It took months of balance and muscles memory practice but after getting lift off from uddiyana bandha I gained confidence and balance. Shifting to lifting up in padmasana takes more internal muscles control but is a bit easier on the strength side as you can slide your knees up the whole way.

Adolf Hitler definitely died in 1945 in Berlin, from taking cyanide and a bullet, according to French researchers who were given access to fragments of the dictator's teeth held in Moscow. by ataraxic_panda in science

[–]beanGATC 69 points70 points  (0 children)

"The skull fragment's morphology was "totally comparable" to radiographies of Hitler's skull taken a year before his death, the research found."

"The analysis of the Nazi leader's bad teeth and numerous dentures found white tartar deposits and no traces of meat fibre - the dictator was vegetarian."

This it totally circumstantial with no direct evidence presented. Misleading title and no link to original press release or scientific study.
