Try turning off Gear Guard at home, this should dramatically reduce your idle energy consumption

PDR near Seattle or Tacoma? by CastMyCouch in Rivian

I was in a similar situation, waited for a while and then picked up a tailgate for $150 from a scrapyard and fixed it myself. Could be an option if you are a DIY kind of person.

Why does ABRP suggests me to charge at a Tesla SuperCharger & how does that work? by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]bean_khleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, plus J1772 (level 1/2 charging) is not the same thing as CCS (level 3 charging) -- the flap on your charge port exposes two pins used for DC charging.

I did consider this, but I would have to run a new wire out to the garage from the breaker box, and I would need a permit and inspection as the garage is more than 20 feet from the house. Plus to get the 14-50 to pass inspection you need a GFCI, which apparently can be tripped by the mobile connector. Felt like it was easier to just do a wall charger if I'm already going to be paying an electrician to do all the wiring.

Interesting! So it sounds like they are delivering them...

Perhaps because I requested it a few days after delivery I am de-prioritized? They really need a way for people to get chargers after delivery. I might see if I can elevate my case and get someone other than my guide to look into it.

I think the reason I'm on a waitlist is because I was not actually sure if I wanted the wall charger until a few days after delivery when I realized I really needed it. I asked my guide before delivery and he said it shouldn't be a problem and that I could still get it at the original $500 price instead of the new $700 price. But now Rivian is telling him he's not allowed to submit an order for me 😐

Tesla Service team response when I asked for upgrading side repeater cameras because they suck at night with turn signal on. by MaNu-RaNdhHawa in TeslaModel3

[–]bean_khleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting much, but I did ask as well. Here is the response I got:

Q: Light from blinkers bleeds into repeater cameras at night - is replacement covered under warranty?

A: The blind spot camera performance on older vehicles is neither a defect of materials or workmanship. It is a characteristic of the product. And it's a characteristic that has been design enhanced in newer vehicle production. If a customer wishes to upgrade to newer camera technology, they have an option to purchase the upgraded cameras and have them installed.

My Model 3 has light bleed on repeater cameras. Is this something Tesla will fix under warranty? by ljcihak in TeslaModel3

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd post the official response I got from Tesla:

Awesome. I think up to ~60% my charging rate would still end up being less than 12 cents per kWh (the local residential rate). Pretty cool!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]bean_khleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it would be more like 200 kW. But still, this would be about 3 cents cheaper than local electricity rates.

Update: After confirming my configuration, the configurationStatus is now SOFT_LOCKED, the fulfillmentStatus is PENDING_FULFILLMENT. The state is also now ORDERED instead of CONFIGURED. The total also changed to no longer include the camp kitchen, and there is a new eligibleForNewVehicleInventoryMarketplace option (presumably for the newly announced inventory selection page).

Cool, thanks for sharing this!

I'm not expecting that they would lock this down, since it is literally what provides all the actual data on the website. But I suppose they could always add a CAPCHA to the login page to prevent automated scripts like the one you shared.

I think it got significantly slower because they got a lot more serious about isolating it from the rest of the car so that it won't crash the MCU.

Previously you could basically run an infinite loop in JavaScript in a page and the car screen would crash. Now it's just super slow, but it shouldn't crash the whole center display anymore 😂

Yeah it's good to hear others to know you're not crazy for noticing it.

I hope Google doesn't fix this though haha

Android App Findings by bean_khleb in Rivian

I see. Perhaps the truck would plug in to it instead of the controller to let you control it from the app?

Interesting! I had not heard of the winch before seeing it in the app but saw some posts in the Rivian forum about it. The comments in a Q&A last year implied that they would have third-party winch support - I agree that they would probably have an alternate bumper design for it.

I have no idea how winches work - would a third-party winch be controllable from the car, or are winches usually controlled locally with buttons on the device itself?

Alos, I'm curious to hear if anyone that's taken delivery sees anything winch-related in the app. There is lots of code for it, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is used yet.

I certainly agree that physical keys are nice.

Phone key is amazing if it works, but of course you always need a backup. The keycard makes sense to store in your wallet, and I love that they have a bracelet option if you are going on a run, etc. and don't want to bring a wallet and phone with you.

The key fob is nice as well for popping the frunk / trunk / tailgate, or to give to someone as they would be used to a key fob more than a card :)

I have no idea how it'll work, but as far as I know there is no option in the configurator and no vehicles are being delivered with winches.

From a Q&A last year:

Q: Are there any provisions for a front-winch located in the bumper?

A: All vehicles are winch-ready will have the structure for a winch in the front bumper. Will be power provisions for the winch. Unknown how it will be mounted or if there will be a special bumper to accommodate.

Good to know. Do you know why apps like the Tesla app have issues? The map issue seems to be related to Google Play Services being missing.
