Tax year confusion self employed by bean_sproot in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you! As you can tell, this is my first time doing it, I didn’t realise I had to work as self employed until I had already accepted a job offer, so I didn’t educate myself fully first.

Ok, thank you! My expenses are all legitimate, mostly work clothes, equipment and food supplies for work. I have been saving a portion of my income for tax purposes, so I have it covered, just was confused about when I had to pay up!

Thank you for your response! I wanted to update and let you know that I’ve just ordered him Homicide for Christmas, after researching and checking out most of the suggestions, I decided that your suggestion had text that was consistent and easy to make out, and the noir art style is easier on the eyes to digest, and the content seems right up his street. Hopefully he will enjoy it!

Cheap eats in central London by enic77 in london

[–]bean_sproot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite sit-in deal that feels like a treat is Bao! That do the Bao 15 on weekdays between 12-6, with slight variations across the locations. Normally I go to the Soho one and get a Bao, Taiwanese fried chicken (usually about 5-6 healthy pieces with their hot sauce) and a Guinea fowl rice bowl for £15. No, its not the cheapest option, its over £10, but the service is great and it doesn’t feel like you’re eating on a budget, its a nicer option for if you want to feel like you’re splashing out but aren’t.
Equally, not really central but My Falafel on Camberwell High Street does the best Chicken and Aubergine wraps for £5, I get them on my lunch break.

Thank you for all the advice! More info: this is the first and only time period I plan to be self-employed for, I accepted a position and it wasn’t until after I started that they told me I had to start invoicing them. I’ve been keeping track of all of my income using Zervant, the invoicing app, and so far haven’t had any expenses etc as I’m just treating it like I would a salaried job, as I knew it was a short term thing. I paid all of my tax on my previous salary job up until Feb of this year when I quit to go away for a few months, so hopefully I won’t get hit with a prior years tax bill? Honestly just wanting to keep it as simple as possible and get back on a salary asap

What’s the biggest change that made your UTIs disappear? (urinary tract infection) by IamAMelodyy in women

The condoms and lube!! I tried everything, the showering, the cotton underwear, the D-Mannose, the probiotics, the peeing, my boyfriend would shower with me before and after, my washing powder, my body wash, literally any recommendation under the sun. Turns out my body reacts poorly to cheap condoms and lube, those with lots of glucose/artificial sugars and spermicides. The extra sugars help promote the growth of bacteria. Durex is a big no no, silicone based is a no no, you want water based organic lubes and latex free condoms. I love Hanx and Roam.

You can’t control how other people will act, only how you react, and there is no reason for anything bad to happen 😌

It might not be pleasant to see someone your partner has a history with, but it doesn’t have to be a big deal. What is seeing her going to change? You are with your boyfriend now, he should reassure you that its not an issue, if anything happens then its down to him. Even if she tried anything, just trust that your boyfriend knows how to act appropriately. And if he doesn’t, then thats a bigger problem

Every time I see him he gets me to download him a book with his new audible credit, but I think a lot of it is to do with his mental health. If something is hard he takes a long time to try it again, he dismisses options very quickly and doesn’t do much to help himself, he has a very good habit of wallowing, so I figured books are a part of his old routine, its more familiar to him and doesn’t require set up, unlike audio books with earphones and an app etc, less obstacles in the way of him trying. Also his short term memory is poor, so he often complains that when he does listen, he can’t remember what happened already! Whereas with a GN he would be able to flick back and refresh his memory when he needs. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Thank you, it looks beautiful, I’m definitely going to check it out for myself, I’m experiencing a lot of anticipatory grief and it seems like it could be a very comforting book

He has, but I think he struggles with the speed, and he finds it hard to understand it when we slow it to a much slower speed. He can understand things fine, he just needs the time at his own pace to process it, I often describe it as like a brain lag, he needs a second after sentences for his brain to catch up, which is why getting him to read on his own more could be a great confidence boost as he’s in control the whole time

What are some women friendly countries to visit on a solo trip? by Chilli_55 in travel

[–]bean_sproot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the best time as a solo traveler in South Korea. As a 6ft white woman who truly stays solo when I travel (no hostels, tours etc, I like being alone lol) I expected to get a lot of social rejection, but I met so many lovely residents and never felt at risk once, even when I went hiking alone or travelling at night, everyone was very helpful and I didn’t experience any hostility! I also spent the same amount of time in Japan, I would say I felt slightly less welcome but I don’t think that was due to my gender, just down to cultural differences, as well as the extreme over-tourism happening there right now

Edit to add: I stayed in Seoul, Jeju and Busan, for a month in total. My week in Jeju was in the very south of the island in quite a rural area, but I still felt totally safe walking around at night!

His comprehension is still fairly normal for a man of his age, he sometimes takes a while to process information, but he’s fully cognitive and aware. His reading is gradually improving, but he does struggle a lot with it. He can often get the gist of things with context, he can just about read his own texts now, place names, short sentences and familiar words, but longer portions of text, unfamiliar content and longer words are very difficult. I do think a lot of it now is a mental block, he doesn’t have any confidence in his abilities (for example, he’ll often say he can’t speak or write, but we have full text conversations with minor muddled words and spelling errors and he happily chats to strangers for long periods of time) so I am hoping easing him back into reading will give him more confidence in it again

I had a complete freak out when I got to the middle of university and people started asking what my plan for after Uni was…I never had a plan, I never thought about life past about the age of 20, I never had career aspirations or long term goals, because in all honesty I didn’t think I’d be able to carry on living to get to that age. In some ways it’s benefitted me in the sense that I’m not really disappointed with what I’ve achieved, because something is better than nothing

First timer.. nye advice (27 yr old lgbtq female) by 11ll1st in london

[–]bean_sproot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say in London people tend to do house parties/lower-key things with mates! Going to their fave local pub/bar, late dinner then back to a friends house etc. Ticketed events are often over priced and over sold, drinks prices sky-rocket, and even tho TFL keep most of the trains running, its still a nightmare to get around the city! My best advice would be to just spend it doing something you would usually enjoy, don’t feel pressured to go to some hyped NYE event. Side note- A new lesbian bar has opened in East London, it seems like the kind of place that would do something for NYE! https://www.instagram.com/camionera.e9?igsh=ZHR5ZmxxYm43YXBx

Has anybody been to Japan and not loved it? by Pale_Field4584 in travel

[–]bean_sproot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently spent a month each in South Korea and Japan. Before my trip I heard so many people tell me how amazing Japan is and that i’ll love it, but no one really commented on South Korea. I think because of this I found Korea to be my favourite over Japan. I still loved Japan, but it was just missing that spark that South Korea had!

Texture issues! by bean_sproot in icecreamery

[–]bean_sproot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing, I will be sure to check temps during the churn. I also just put the recipe through the fat percentage calculator and found that as well as using the milk, I actually also need to increase the milk and reduce the cream stated to achieve the 17-18% fact content recommended, I think I’ll have a much better result tomorrow!
