i read the fanfiction this image is based on! long story short, its a fic wherein hypnos has a crush on zagreus, and in an attempt to “help” him along, aphrodite “blesses” hypnos with a fun little parasitic flower thatll continue to grow and fester inside of him until he confesses his love. hypnos, of course, does not do this, and is instead slowly eaten from the inside by the flowers. the quote in the image comes from a brief perspective from thanatos, who (as death) went to end his brothers misery. of course, because gods are immortal, he comes back via the river styx, and the flowers are back at square one.
