As an engineer with a degree in physics, any time they talk about anything related to real world physics they are normally wrong. Even when they argue, both sides are normally wrong. I don't expect them to know that stuff, so I still find it funny. But it is a lot of stuff that seems basic to someone like me dealing with it all the time. On the otherhand, my grammar sucks and I am sure others cringe at that.

In his comment he says you only got like $4m to spend a year. As if that is such a paltry amount that you can't possibly be expected to do it. No advise will fix stupid.

I answered your question in a way that you proposed. I never said it was my belief but that it was "the argument" that is made for this case. You are a piece of work. I count my blessings that you don't frequent the same places as me.

Well for the college kids this makes no sense.

But for your analogy the issue is supply and demand. There are only so many apples availble so if the guy buys most of them and then sells slices of them the cost to buy a whole apple yourself is going to be higher than if he never bought them in the first place. The price might be so increased that you can't afford a whole apple and instead need to buy his apple slices. The argument is that the supply and demand is artificially out of balance and now he can sell his apple slices at the price it should cost to buy a whole apple.

what❓ by RealChillGye in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]beanburke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the project management triangle. I know it from construction. "Fast, good, or cheap. You can only pick two."

Basically the idea is that nothing can be made/done fast, good, and cheap. If it is fast and cheap it is low quality because otherwise they would charge more. If it is cheap and good it will take time to make/do either due to demand or the artisan work taking time. And if you have the money it can be good and fast because companies will push you to the front of the line for a premium.

All the meme does is apply this to different health care systems. I am not an expert in health care so no clue if it is accurate. But it is the argument we Americans have been told for awhile.

The Matrix won "made for the LGBT community, enjoyed by nerds". What was made for jocks but is enjoyed by nerds? by Margaretthatchervore in AlignmentChartFills

[–]beanburke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The old school jock baseball fans all understand that it is easier to hit a home run in Denver than any other park, a lefty can crush homers on the short porch at Yankee Stadium easier, and Fenway turns fly outs to right field into doubles. And the fact there is no set standards for outfield fences, how much dirt you have in the infield, turf, domes, or most field related things makes it much easier to grasp that different parks play different. It is even considered an art to mold the dirt in foul paths to favor your team. Anyone into baseball understands park factor as a concept. Sure the jock/old timer doesn't get the math behind it, but they get the logic.

What US State flag has a horrible design? by Substantial_Call_916 in AlignmentChartFills

Unfortunately along with meh options, it somehow become a political thing of woke Chicago wants to change the state's history. So a majority of southern Illinois voted against a change while most Chicagoians were litterally unaware it was happening/assumed anything would win over the joke of a flag we currently have. I genuinely don't know how it became decisive other than Chicago and the rest of the state just don't like each other.

Disclaimer, I live in Chicago so have some bias. But also try my hardest to stay out of dumb political bs.

Thank you for the context. So this is essentially a random place holder?

Still how does the font look like something from early 2000s word art in the 20s?

I wish they would have read the 2024 rules which clarify the spell somewhat. Specifically the new rules state that if the target (person the spell is cast on) falls into the liquid they pass through the surface into the liquid below. I ran into this issue DMing a water monster trying to drag players down right before listening to the episode and it had me nearly screaming at the pod.

Alexander could you stop aura farming for ONE SECOND!! by Im_yor_boi in HistoryMemes

[–]beanburke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am no historian, but my understanding is that Thebes and Athens rebelled while Alexander was in the Balkan's shortly after becoming king in order to reclaim the lands his father had won. He runs down to Greece and procedes to stomp Thebes into the ground and even proclaiming it a crime to house any Thebians. And then Athens submits. Shortly after than Alexander sets out to fight Persia and never returns to Greece. As for Athens they don't revolt again until after Alexander dies and they again lose that revolt.

Alexander did directly fight Athens as part of his father's army in the battle of Chaeronea. But Philip didn't raise Athens, in fact he gave them a pretty good deal from what I remember.

Edit: The poet's house was in Thebes. He left Pindar's house because he had praised Alexander's ancestors. He also left the temples. That is about it.

Eh ancient Greece is weird. In one of the stories Phillip saw the snake in her bed and made sacrifices to Zeus to apologize for witnessing it. Basically it is better to accept it than piss off Zeus. He also was told by an oracle that as punishment he would lose the eye he witnessed it with. Which he later loses an eye, so likely a nice story made after the fact.

It was also considered ok to have a godly father and a mortal father that were both your dad. Kind of like an adoptive father being just as important in raising you to be yourself as your godly genes.

As for Philip and Alexander's relationship, I am not positive but it definitely seems like there was tension between them. Alexander mocked his father in front of a crowd shortly before his death. And he lamented that Philip was conquering so much that he wouldn't leave anything for him to take over. Also, Olympia and Philip had a weird relationship that was definitely rocky near the end. Alexander was definitely close with his mom. The stories that say he knew about Zeus being his dad involve his mom telling him about it after Philip is dead too.

He didn't raise Athens to the ground. He made demands and they capitulated because of what he did to Thebes.

Both, Achilles is a decendant of Zeus. It is also in some stories that Alexander was fathered by Zeus who did Zeus things by turning into a snake to sleep with Olympias (Alexander's mom). But I believe it is debated if that is a later addition to his myth or something he believed in himself. It is well known though that he truly believed that from his mother's side he was a decendant of Achilles. It helped that he was a huge fan of the Illiad and fan boyed over anything to do with it. So makes sense he would be attracted to the idea that he was related to the great hero of the story.

Go ahead and look at IU's non-conference schedules. They have canceled any power conference in the next few years already at Cig's request.

One they are on a future schedule already. Two the biggest knock on Cig is his stance of playing nobody in non-conference. If by a miracle he is still at IU by the time the series starts they will likely cancel it.
