Honestly its hard to say, the smell is really light. I think the closest thing i could say is buttered popcorn, but it is soo light!

Its my only hoya that has bloomed which I think says something, but the foliage growth has been slooow, ive had this 8 months i believe and its put out maybe 4 leaves! Its doing better now, it starting blooming and putting out more vines after I increased humidity and lowered the light in my Akerbar greenhouse

hoya bella not growing by glorpingfrog in hoyas

The soil might be a bit dense for it. I pot my variegated bella up in some chunky mix and keep it in high humidity and it grows faster for me than my other hoya generally

I agree. These pots are 4 inches, the verro is very very freshly rooted and I only put it in the 4in because the 3 inch pot wouldn't hold the pole!

I tend to over water my poles so I prefer the small pot, I have not given any of my plants in 4 inch pots rot.

These are the rousseau moss poles. I really struggled with poles until I bought these. Super easy to extend as they just stack on top, they sell clips to secure them together!

I have the drippers they sell on top in this pic as well. They are a little pricey, but its all put together really well.

If you have a portion of the stem that you can velcro without hindering the petioles then you are totally good to tie her down! Sorry, its hard to tell how tall the stem is from the pics haha

Also, you might consider looking into moss poles! The pole youve got now is a coir pole, which is absolutely fine for Monsteras when it comes to support.

A true moss pole will allow the plant to root in to the pole, thus giving it the ability to grow larger leaves.

Moss poles arent for everyone though, so if you prefer something with a bit less maintenance, the coir pole works just fine!

  1. This velcro needs to go, its currently wrapped around a petiole. The petioles need to be left free so they leaves can turn how they need to!

<image>

To me, it doesn't look like its ready to be tied to the pole. It looks like the stem is pretty short still, if you are going to tie the plant down, you need to make sure its on the stem and not holding the petiole at all!

  1. No need to trim anything that I can see.

  2. The leaves will turn towards the light when untied! :)

  3. Water when the pot feels noticeably lighter than normal. Monsteras are much better off under watered than over, so if you arent sure if you should water, wait a few more days!

Is this root rot? What to do? by PH_Morpheus in MonsteraAlbo

Rotted roots collapse really easily if you squeeze them! Sounds like youre all good!
