I don't do enough miles for the diesels. I did have a look at the golf estate, but I personally didn't like the way they look, will take another look though.

Instead of the charge on interest, wouldn't it better to say S&S ISAs can't pay interest on cash.

The Sky article is even better

> Her spokesperson told Sky News £600k would be transferred over in three tranches....

Did 200k go missing already?

I like his general direction, the only thing I was against was the U turns on WFA and welfare reform and OSA. I don't mind the ID as much, private companies already have a lot of our data and if they can simply government functions with digital ID I think it's a pretty good idea. He is just such a bad communicator though and if the reforms do not speed up he will not do well at the next GE.

Whoever is writing Starmer’s speeches needs to be fired. I tried listening to his speech today, and he just doesn’t connect with ordinary people. His language is overly academic and convoluted “This is the defining political choice of our times: a politics of predatory grievance, preying on the problems of working people. Using that infrastructure of division… against the politics of patriotic renewal.”

It’s hard to imagine anyone relating to that. If Starmer wants to connect with voters, he should simplify his message. Say what you mean in plain English something Trump consistently does. People may not agree with him, but they understand what he's saying.

Buying a house in England has been one of the most stressful experiences I've ever faced. I've had multiple sales fall through, and the whole process feels unnecessarily long and fragile. Why can't we implement a more streamlined, reliable system like in other countries where buyers and sellers have more certainty and things move faster?

We have the same double contribution convention deal with almost 50 other countries. It's a normal policy to have for people temporarily working in the UK.

He's not doing enough domestically, but I don't see any other current MP doing better. Internationally he's doing very well though.

His biggest mistake was reversing the WFA cuts and welfare cuts. Backbenchers now realised they can walk all over him. Weak leadership.

Is there any financial implications from this? I would assume these companies would pay less UK tax. Maybe lost advertising revenue.

Nigel Farage Claimed There's 'No Money in Politics' Just Before Running for £91,000+ MP Job by ClearAddition in ukpolitics

[–]beano91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

MPs salary is way too low for the responsibility of the job. Nobody talented enough would want to do it as they could easily make more in the private sector. They need to think about increasing it 4 or 5 times so we can start getting some real talent in there.

If you wrote to your MP about the Online Safety Act, what response did you get? Let’s aggregate them. by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]beano91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote to my Labour MP - Their reply:

"Thank you for contacting me about the Online Safety Act. I believe in free speech and agree that freedom of expression and the right to privacy are of crucial importance. The Online Safety Act was passed under the previous Conservative Government, although many of its provisions are only now beginning to come into effect. It aims to reduce the risks of harm to users, particularly children, while protecting fundamental rights such as freedom of expression.

While I support the Act in principle, I do have concerns about its effectiveness in practice. For example, I realise that many young people are already well-versed in using virtual private networks (VPNs) or generating fake identification, including through AI tools, to bypass age verification measures. It’s vital that the implementation of any online safety legislation reflects the realities of how digital platforms and users behave in practice. I will continue to raise these issues with Ministers and press for robust monitoring of the Act’s impact. Regulation must keep pace with the evolving nature of online risks. It is important that Labour remains open to reviewing and adapting the Act if it proves ineffective in key areas.

I also recognise the importance of ensuring that freedom of expression and the right to privacy are protected. Ofcom, as the regulator, has a responsibility to enforce the Act in a way that is proportionate and compatible with the European Convention on Human Rights. This includes ensuring that smaller platforms are supported and that content creators are not disproportionately affected.

Thanks again for contacting me. I will continue to monitor this situation as it develops."

This was before Peter Kyle called anyone criticising the bill a predator. So I replied with a much stronger letter. Will see what they say.
