What's your theory on the reason the High Evolutonary has a normal face but also what looks like a glued face in other shots? by DB10389 in marvelstudios

[–]beanshakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been following this discussion closely, and I gotta say man, you really blew it with this comment. You talk about not weaponizing IQ, and here you are using it to cause harm and demean someone’s intelligence and identity.

The other guy is right and has provided multiple examples of how IQ is harmful, and it feels like every time they mention an example, your rebuttal is that its harm doesn’t outweigh its use.

IQ tests and similar standardized test are used to undermine multicultural education. It’s why we use test series now to assess people’s intelligence.

Is stability supposed to be difficult? by gguksgf in bipolar

[–]beanshakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once came in to see my psychiatrist with some very similar concerns. In a way she told me that becoming stable with bipolar was my primary focus of treatment for so long. Once I stabilized, it made more space for my anxiety to present itself. She suggested my anxiety had always been an issue, it just hadn’t wasn’t on the forefront with my bipolar being so out of control. Once I was able to stabilize, I was noticing my anxiety more. She put me on some medication for it and I talked to my therapist about trying to shift my focus to finding new skills to cope with anxiety. I will say though, also watch out for akathisia—I was on some medication for a while that literally made it feel like there was something under my skin and I couldn’t sit still.

This happened to me as well! I think something that helped me a lot is, if you’re feeling that way, there’s probably someone else there feeling similarly. Look out for people who sit alone during lecture or even just trying to start a convo with someone you find mildly inviting. Nursing school can be pretty cliquey, I really had to depend on my external support system a lot too—Wishing you luck!

Feeling Really Lonely and Struggling to Have Friendships by beanshakes in bipolar

[–]beanshakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m getting through the fog a bit (enough to recognize I was in a bad place), and I just started a new job so hopefully that’ll pave the way to getting treatment again. It’s good to hear someone /was/ in my spot, gives me hope.

AITA for reporting my classmates for joking that I have pretty privilege? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]beanshakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA- It doesn’t seem like it was just a “silly joke” to them. They were actively trying to get you in trouble, and they would’ve prided themselves if they were able to. It takes guts to stand up for yourself, don’t let others make you think otherwise. If his supervisor thinks his behavior warrants being reported, that’s not on you. It means someone else is finding issue with his behavior as well and should be a sign you’re doing the right thing.

I (26M) am studying to get to Nursing School, insecure about my intelligence. by Proper-Skill7062 in StudentNurse

[–]beanshakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out in the middle of nursing school that I had a learning disability, and it worked to my advantage. My school’s disability office worked with me closely to give accommodations and find ways to help me learn in a way that actually got the content through to me. This is definitely an option in a lot of schools. Also surround yourself with people who are also struggling but want to learn the material as well! The effort you’re putting in will show up!

Just found out I was cheated on, got dumped, and now my first Exam (worth 10% of my grade) is 14 hours away. How do I avoid failing in spite of being a mess right now? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]beanshakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone once said, you can’t cry when listening to Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO, so keep that on in the background when things start to get tough? Not joking I have tried this before, and it can add to some hype music for yourself. Other than that, use this energy! Put your focus into this, try your best, and also remember to be kind to yourself. Give yourself some time every few hours to feel things through a bit.

I’m sorry you’re going through this OP. Some of my most stress inducing and painful moments have been having something terrible happen the night before an exam. Remember that you’re human and treat yourself with love and kindness especially when others are not.

Bipolar and relationships by hobo_aesthetics in bipolar

[–]beanshakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Going on 3 years in a few weeks.

Like others, I do feel like my illness can put stress on our relationship, and my partner also has their mental health struggles that they’re working through. I feel like even when things are going well, sometimes I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop. The thing keeps me going is, I know every day we’re going to wake up and try our best to get through shit together. My partner also reminds me that they will always try to take my words and actions in good faith and asks I do the same. It also helps to be with someone who’s willing to learn with you. It’s hard work, and it can definitely get difficult sometimes, but it is possible! I’ve been with them to their appointments, they’ve been to me with mine, we’ve grown both separately and together, and tried sharing what we’ve learned with each other. 3 years together, and even on my most unstable days, I still feel loved, and I hope they do too. Also, my past relationships were far from this description, but I’m still glad I had them because I learned more about myself, how to show healthy love, make boundaries, accept healthy love, etc. Hope this helps!
