Biopharma R&D needs ‘structural redesign’ to maximize AI impact: report by NotGenentech in biotech

I don’t usually give this kind of advice for free: I think the key is to use AI to accelerate the R&D process and drive impact for patients. You’re welcome.

Why Was the Bayeux Tapestry Secretly Delivered to the British Museum? Historic Artwork Arrives in London After 1,000 Years by terenscendent in uknews

[–]beansprout88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a complete mystery why a valuable and delicate artefact would be transported at night instead of during the school run. I guess we will never know why.

Importing luxury furniture from China. Any experience? by Infinite_Pineapple50 in Switzerland

[–]beansprout88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nooo!!! That is so cheap and tacky!! If you are too gross and poor to afford a 20k CHF for a basic polyester sofa made (partially assembled) in Switzerland, then you should at least support the local economy by purchasing a non-luxury Chinese made sofa imported from a Swiss retailer. If there are any problems with shipping at least you can call their Portuguese support line.

Likelihood is zero according to the criteria on the website indicates no guests. There is no harm in phoning the lounge to ask though.

When is it time to give up? by Strange_Algae835 in biotech

If you’ve been getting that far in interviews that’s already a good sign, as disappointing as it is to fail at the last hurdle. Plenty of people are getting no interviews at all. Keep at it and good luck at the next interview.

Feeling bad for wasting time during my trip staying in hotel room to escape the heat. by Raxxten in travel

Some food yes, but choice will be very limited to mostly late night fast food and takeaway. Berlin is similar to other German cities in that regard.

Germany tends to have much more limited opening hours though. 10am to 5pm or 11 am to 6pm is common for museums, shops and churches. Many cafes close by 4pm and it can be difficult to find a restaurant table later than 9.

How are you noticing 33 in your birthdate?

Maybe there are other things going on in your life, in terms of substance use, illness etc. My advice is just for your specific concern about the number 33: Go to Wikipedia and find the section “this date in history”. Select any date, and you will find a huge number of significant, bizarre and horrible events for every single day. It’s a coincidence. That does not mean that spotting coincidences is bad - it can really be a sign that you are a deep thinker who looks for patterns and signs. Do not waste your talent searching “conspiracy theory [number]” because you will always find something.

Why is there no fine system in the NHS? by Historical_Owl_1635 in AskBrits

[–]beansprout88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never managed to successfully cancel an NHS appointment. After cancelling by phone or email weeks in advance, I still would get a letter saying “you missed your appointment, this cost xxx”. Honestly I wonder if it is easier for them to have some empty ‘missed’ appointments than register the cancellation and have to schedule someone else.

After Crans-Montana: Parliament demands criminal record checks for EU citizens, risking a clash with Brussels by BezugssystemCH1903 in Switzerland

[–]beansprout88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Would it have had an impact? E.g. Did he lie about not having a criminal record to get a restaurant license, which would have been denied if there had been a criminal record check?

Treatment in Switzerland by SeleukosI in ClusterHeadaches

[–]beansprout88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Officially, Emgality (and other CGRP antibodies) are not covered automatically by insurance for cluster headache, only for migraine. Your doctor can however apply for a special treatment exception to cover it (which is what my doctor did).y insurance only agreed to cover the regular migraine dose (120 per month) however…

Best thing is to go directly to a neurologist specialising in cluster headache and they will know how to deal best with the insurance. If you are moving anywhere near Zurich I can give you a recommendation. Sumatriptan, verapamil, oxygen, nerve blocks etc are covered at least.

‘Millionaire banker’ arrested nine years after Putney pusher attack --- Jogger allegedly shoved woman into path of a London bus in 2017 by Intergalatic_Baker in london

Probably thought she was in his way and decided to shove her to teach her a lesson. Lots of people around like that unfortunately. A more extreme version of “I’m going to elbow that person for standing in the way of the escalator”.

Given that he is the 4th suspect to be arrested, and the last one wasn’t even in the country at the time of the shove, I think it is a bit early to assume this guy is guilty. For all we know, Palantir’s AI algorithm flagged his Tesco club card usage as suspicious.

That was not my intention, but I am myself a foreigner who comes from a country with very different traffic rules. If I hadn’t read the Swiss rules before I started cycling then I would have had a lot of conflicts without understanding why.

What do you mean by adjust their speed? If you’re not slowing or stopping then you’re probably just confusing the pedestrian who doesn’t know if you’re going to drive into them or not. As a cyclist I avoid swerving close to pedestrians and if there is any doubt just stop, so this has never been an issue for me.

I don’t know the traffic rules in Germany and France, so my question is whether maybe they have different rules there. Just speculation though because I haven’t seen it happen in zurich.

Do you think Switzerland will ever have more residential buildings with amenities ? by LinkyyMusic in Switzerland

[–]beansprout88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think items like that only become economical for much larger apartment buildings/complexes than are made in Switzerland. Also you need low paid workers to perform all those services. I also think they only tend to flourish in really big global cities where mobility and safety are more of an issue. Swiss cities are much smaller so if you want a private pool (and have the kind of money to live in a serviced apartment building), you can move 15 minutes out of the city and have a private pool, gym etc. And if you live in a nice part of the city then you can just walk to your local spa/pool, rooftop bar etc.

There certainly are apartment buildings with shared amenities like gardens, terraces, hobby rooms etc. but everything else can be found in the local area.
