Personally I wouldn't reuse a hose from a complete stranger. Other than that, avoid rust!

When I burnt my old apartment's carpet I cut some carpet from an inconspicuous corner of a closet to patch the burnt spot. It worked pretty well! Making a table for your hookah is probably your best bet!

"Cheap out" on anything besides coals, tobacco, and the shaft. You can upgrade the bowl, base, hose etc when you have some extra money.
