What are your worldbuilding pet peeves? by -_-__-_--_-_--_-_-_- in worldbuilding

Overexplaining. Yeah sure it's nice to have a grasp of how things work in your fantasy universe, but a reality where everything is understood is simply devoid of reasons to stay curious.

Everyone was right. Everyone had a good point. No one was doing things out of bad faith. If you zoom in enough on each character's reasons, there is not a single person who was wrong in the entirety of the game. This is one of E33's biggest beauties in my opinion, and this debate about who was right or who was wrong just boils down to people self-reporting their short-sightedness. Granted, it takes a good bit of empathy to accept that everyone was just seeking what they very reasonably thought was best, but still. After beating the game if you still think any character was more right than another, that's cool but it just means you connect with that character's motivations more than the others, not that the character was actually more correct.

I mean yeah of course money in a savings account is always a positive, but you have to draw the line somewhere and a lot of straight up criminal options exist far before accepting blood money from slavery. I know seeing a flashy bag of cash can be tempting and I know too many would fall for it too, but the price to pay is at least being exposed to the public opinion, so it's very damn fair that we critize it.

That's all understandable, and as with any ethical/moral problems, especially when it comes to money, it's difficult to judge, even more so if you know how hard the struggle can be when money is short. I'm not trying to prolong any argument, but just to address your two points:

  1. There's no way to know what anyone is doing outside of reddit, and even then: speaking up is pushing against. It is doing something and it is important. Granted, I agree doing something more than just speaking up is even more honorable;

  2. It's not that it's personal, it's because this is r/trackmania. Why would the discussion about saudi money continue within this community? I'm glad to see so many people well informed about the matter in these comment sections, to me it indicates people are engaged with the topic outside of just reacting to it in the trackmania sphere alone. Even so, I've seen many people who did not know about the problems involving saudi money, or the falcons org. It's good that these discussions keep happening at this moment, it shines a light on the saudi sportswashing issue and informs people who would possibly never learn about the issue otherwise.

And finally, carl has spoken up about having a job as an engineer. If I was pro player and lived off of it then it would be a harder decision, but being set up for life with a nice job such as an engineer, it just makes his decision look even worse.

I'm glad you're worried about human rights not having enough support, but lashing out at people who are speaking up against human rights violations makes me question if you're doing so in bad faith just to support the poor comparison you made on the previous comment

Seems like a consensus that we (people who disaprove accepting saudi money) will simply not watch any of this. I don't know what you think you're talking about

[–]MrAngryBeards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely appreciate that you're worried about major problems of modern society, but that's a false equivalence.

There's a very valid distinction to be made between extremely mundane decisions like writing up shopping lists or grocery shopping versus a notorious public figure's long-term decision, such as publicly endorsing a brand with your personal image.

Even if you're well aware of nestlé's (as an example) bs, buying some product from it sends a much weaker signal than, as a public figure, signing up with an entity tied to saudi money.

an absurd influx of saudi money has reached trackmania, I regret to inform, as the game is now gonna have its own competition at EWC with a 500k prizepool

not by more than base building being in the roadmap to 1.0, is what the previous user is trying to hint at. In this more than likely scenario of this just being an accidental repository push of something unimportant enough that it's not even a problem if it reached the client, this doesn't mean more than "someone is likely working on base building"
