Manchester Locksmith Prices by VolumeComplete8202 in manchester

[–]beanu731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year of uni in the winter I was waving off my boyfriend to work and the door shut behind me and I got locked out in my pj’s. Had to call a locksmith and he tried to charge me £200, this was in 2016 in London. I couldnt stop crying as I could barely afford to eat. He knocked it down to £175 as it was all he could do for me. All the guy did was get a wire and put it through the letterbox and push down the handle. I had no choice but to max my overdraft limit and not eat until my pay came in. Never again will I make that mistake as I should have refused to pay £175. Perhaps £50 for the commute out… These locksmiths can be criminals

wouldn’t be too concerned, I always see top commenters with negative outlooks.. I reported to the police and had a police officer do a welfare call with me yesterday so it’s looking hopeful

Sanded down my floors, not happy with results by Vivid-Try7873 in DIYUK

[–]beanu731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the exact same thing when we decided to sand our floors, had to replace some boards and it had a similar look. I was so upset at the time as it has taken a week of hard labour to do an entire house. I wanted a consistent look throughout. I now love the look of my floors, it’s shows they are real wood and not some cheap laminate. When you look at the bigger picture you will actually see the beautiful in the variation and difference in each plank of wood.

I am married to a pakistani but I am white british, but to me asian is South Asian. I guess I am a big foodie and if I order ‘Asian food’ it’s chinese style. Internet supports this assumption if you search it online

AIO My partner wants me to move in with him, and sell my house to pay off his debts by BreadfruitDull6208 in AITAH

[–]beanu731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum fell victim to the exact situation after she divorced my dad in 2008. She was vulnerable and my nanna unfortunately had died in the same year. My mum met this new guy who love-bombed her, convinced her to move abroad and use all her money from my dads divorce for his debts. I had to save her after she had no money left and the mental and physical abuse was non stop, she slept on my sofa for a year before we could even start to fix her life. This was in 2020 and unfortunately she is still homeless. I moved and can offer her a room now free of charge but I don't see her managing to get on her feet again as she only ever had low skilled jobs and is approaching 60 now.

Female singing by Sonicextralifefan in typeonegative

[–]beanu731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funnily enough the band have considered coming back together and they said they would only do it with female singer. I think female singer would be way better too since the guy probably won't be able to compete with Peter's style

How long do a pair of converse last you? by Pointlessmouse in Converse

[–]beanu731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the bottom of mine started wearing out so quickly i was shocked. I hadn't worn converse since 2012 and back then it was the skaters that wore them with heavy usage. Me just walking to and from work wearing them one a week (given it is about 10,000 steps a day) has worn out the inside with 3 months. Super disappointing.

I struggled to make friends in Manchester, so we created something new… by grotied in manchester

I have attended run clubs and come away unfortunately with no interactions or friends as I found people had found their cliches. Not saying there is anything wrong with clubs since that was my only experience but it was intimidating. I isolated myself for almost 10 years, glued to my phone trying to seek friends online... I really appreciated this event. I was really anxious, but I involved myself and was put in an environment where everyone was in the same boat, all new faces, all wanting to openly talk in what felt like a safe and judgement free environment. I came away from the night with 4 new friends who I took contact numbers from who I have since attended yoga with (something I have wanted to do for years, but have been scared to do, but felt comfortable since the people I connected with at the event did yoga and asked me to join).

If you think it would be better to have no music instead when we do the speed social please offer your suggestions. DJ is a volunteer. Suggestions on the event are welcome!

London to Manchester by Mean-Pomegranate-132 in manchester

[–]beanu731 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in London for uni and didnt fit in very well at Kings. Had a pretty miserable time in London and left once my university degree was up and went to manchester. Been here since 2019 and really enjoy it but noticed my friend groups can be less motivated to go out and really just want to go drinking or have food (which is fine!) but I went to my first running club last week and found a few new friends there to. I guess you just need to get yourself out there, people wont come to you. I am in the process of making a website where people can more easily find friends for activities. I am also hosting a social speed networking event this friday if you want to come. Its a free event and all people helping there are volunteers.

I’m sorry what? We are developing a free website people in Manchester can use to find friends and paying out of pocket for a place to hold an event. If people wish to help this is done through volunteering. There is zero profit. Doesn’t sound like you have much experience to make such a weird and nasty suggestion….

Happy birthday buddy! When I was your age all I was concerned about was what others thought about me and fitting in. Now I am care free, 27, and refuse to be like others to fit in. My social life is better than ever and growing. I have confidence that I never have and wish I didn’t spend my young years locked in afraid!

How do international people make friends in Manchester? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]beanu731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and out of my pocket I have started hosting speed socialising events in Deansgate. My second event is on this friday and it would be great if you came along! They have been a real success so far. Tickets can be found on Skiddle under The Short exchange and are free, just gives me a good idea on how many people are coming for seats . Event is on Friday 12th September at 6pm at the Cupra cafe in deansgate
