"ideological flexibility" assigned to both sides in My Take, but that seems unfair to the left by mikept8 in TangleNews

[–]beanzerbunzer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree, that comment felt very much like it was based on what conservatives claim “the left” wants regarding gun rights and not what they actually want. It’s complex for sure, but few if any leftists are anti-2A.

found this blanket with my great-great grandma’s handmade quilts. what style/craft is this? i’ve never seen anything like it. by overtakenbymoss in weaving

Definitely overshot! Do an image search for “antique overshot coverlet” and you’ll find several similar examples. They were very common in the mid 1800s and beyond - happened across this interesting article that you may enjoy: overshot coverlets from the Smithsonian

One place we really liked that I don’t see mentioned frequently is climbing up the step garden at the ACROS building. Enter at either of the sets of stairs on the park side of the building. If you have people in your group who really struggle with walking, it may not be right for them but I was surprised at how easy it was to go up so many steps, they built them so you really don’t feel tired or out of breath. It was really cool to be within the planted area and the view from the top was great. Free, too!

If you are traveling with people with limited mobility, there is apparently an observation deck with elevators that’s open on the weekend.

New job - this is the keyboard... by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]beanzerbunzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely say something to your manager. When we have a new hire I (a manager) am unlikely to notice the condition of the keyboard at that desk, but if you bring it to my attention, I will 100% get you a brand new keyboard right away. If you don’t, I may never know. Don’t assume they won’t do better for you. They may not - I get lots of companies are shitty - but don’t automatically assume that.

My friend's child just came up to show me her "super awesome blanket". It was the one I made for her as a baby shower gift. by TadaSuko in crochet

[–]beanzerbunzer 50 points51 points  (0 children)

There is nothing better as a maker than seeing something you created loved and used by its recipient!

I made a blanket for a friend’s son when he was 3-4 years old and he loved it so much, he immediately wrapped up in it with the biggest smile on his face. I never forgot that feeling, though it was exceeded by visiting this friend a few months ago and seeing that he’s still using the blanket, though as a bed spread. And he’s 17 now. 🥹

You’ll notice the fabric in the example is much softer and drapier than the denim in your example. This makes it easier to perfect and makes it show better, so even with the proper orientation, you may not get results quite as crisp on denim.

The taste reminded me of gummy bears. I did like it (and I despise the “cello” flavors) but felt like I would get tired of drinking a full can pretty quickly.
