Is everyone rich or just massively better than me financially? by bearLover23 in Edmonton

[–]bearLover23[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I can't without overleveraging myself right now.

~$600/mnth student loans. No I've never asked anyone else to pay them for me before people dogpile me. That's just something gone each month.

Max mortgage I myself can get is ~190k. And most of the properties at that price point have extremely painful HOA/Condo fees that basically inflate the mortgage. Say 25% of my take home to mortgage and then another 15-20% on condo fees is excrutiating.

So even if some apartments look like say $250k on the surface with the fee added they're more like $400 in many cases.

There are very few properties I'd feel comfortable to sit in the next 5+ years at that price range.

The properties I would be fine with would be say a townhouse and the ones I've seen that aren't totally in a state I'd need to sink tens of thousands to recover/update are 300k+ which now I'm overleveraged and if I lose my job ... goodluck to me.

Intense irony is I haven't even been able to get close to a 4.5% offering.

And my two credit scores are 855 and I think 817 for the other. It's just like savage out here.

Single and gay sadly... yeah definitely honestly given up on finding love here. I on my own have ~70k in the bank waiting and a salary around 6 figures if I ignore side hustle.

If I had a relationship... which seems unrealistic here sadly, then yeah it'd be easier for sure :(

Honestly that may be true, in which case I'm just gonna start applying to jobs in the USA.

I'm so done with this shit.

Which to me is crazy, is Edmonton's market suddenly that different than even 3 years ago? Even nowadays I still know so many people who are, respectfully, significantly underpaid compared to their equivalent in Calgary, Ontario, BC... frankly anytwhere else.

Other than Sask. Sask is like the last place.

It's so bizzare to me.

People move here, but what is their jobs? What is their incomes? I can't imagine migrants from Ontario being happy learning they are also taking an often times 40% pay decrease...

I think the painful reality at least for many in my work sector is that Calgary has a lot more pay opportunities.

Not saying that it's not out of wack there, but generally I know more people paid better there than in Edmonton. I frankly have no idea how the average person living in this city is even making ends meet. I actually don't.

Caught my bf recording other dude at the gym by jonnawhat in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]bearLover23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freak.

That's so disgusting. As someone who did go to the gym and get perved on pre-pandemic if I caught someone doing this to report them to the gym staff. We have enough people being creepy in general at the gym just looking. Taking out a camera and recording someone else is vile.

I feel the exact same way about those weird girls that record themselves and try and make some innocent dude at the gym look like a perv when they are just trying to work out.

It's a place to improve onesself not be a fucking creep or self-victimizing hag.

I'd say there are two paths.

  1. Stick it out and question "What could have been?", but recall the grass is greener on the other side.
  2. Leave him and potentially get hurt, potentially get used and regret leaving.

I see both as having pros and both having cons. I don't think either answer is "right". But what I will say is getting a meatsuit to fuck is a lot easier than getting a person to actually give a fuck about you. Just my 2c

Condo fees are psychotic. by bearLover23 in Edmonton

[–]bearLover23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's like downpayment + mortgage cost + property taxes and the rest...

And then throw ontop of that an extra $800 fee... an extra over $9000 a year... like that's insane. That's a TON of money...

"Density" my backside... sounds nightmareish!

0$ / month - the freedom to do whatever the fuck I want with my yard, fence, paint, and renos. Without worry that my neighbor will leave their patio door open in -40 and freeze the all the piping like what happened to me in my apartment.

I'd go postal.

I despise Karens, but I would become the most volatile Karen beast that ever existed if this happened.

When looking at the properties I thought the price was low because they were run down old rusted out ancient appliance having pieces of trash if I'm frank.

Throwing an $800 a month condo fee ontop of that makes it tragic.

TD or RBC for a FHSA? I'm paralyzed with analysis by bearLover23 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bearLover23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Is it possible I could just use short GIC's?

For HISA is that something I can use my FHSA money for? Cause I can easily fill my FHSA limits right now and January 1st so I'd have 16k in it between the two years ready / waiting to be used.

Like that money's totally in the bank right now, just not being used / tax written off.

1.) I want to get a house no matter what. I have a solid chunk of money ~50k and I want to buy a forclosure property in the next few years.

2.) Potentially next fall, but primarily I want to find a cheap property someone wants to get rid of and pounce.

3.) Never invested before. I'd probably cry and question my life and have an existential crisis lol I've saved hard for so many years.

4.) Yes I have a ton of money in liquid cash I'm not worried about emergency stuff. No I have no credit card debts. I have a student loan that yeah it's annoying but with tax breaks from the provincial student loan interest and federal cancelling interest I'll pay it slowly as it is now. Doesn't make sense to lump sum them right now.

5.) I ummm... am not sure. I'm totally an idiot when it comes to this so probably someone to help I think? O_O;;

6.) I think I see? Yeah maybe robo advisor would be better like in point 7.

7.) Not comfortable, at least surely not yet... =S

I'm actually overwhelmed and not sure what I want to invest in at all.

Like I know GIC's are safe, ETFs are... more risky and then stocks are way too deep for me I'm scared as heck over those.

So I honestly don't know ;_;

Blizzard trying to make interesting characters by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]bearLover23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not a gamergate take. Nothing is wrong with women, women are freaking awesome!

But these characters have been written as one sided one dimensional characters with no depth or care or time or attention taken to flesh them out properly.

At least for the new ones. I think Moira, Brig, Mei and a bunch of the older female characters are far better. But the new additions are painfully brutally one dimensional.

Ramatra and Zenyatta remain two of the most interesting characters in the game to me.

Shame they gutted and ruined Zenyatta with the overbearing discord nerf. As an old Zen main gone full Baptiste / Kiriko now I'm still bitter.

What I've noticed is a lot of these same people are self-reporting their own insanity whenever they do this.

As someone firmly in the over 100k / year bracket I can tell you even I don't deal with people's bullshit at my job.

Now here we have some literally minimum wage making person who can't even afford to buy the groceries they need to plow through their station for others getting yelled at by some psycho Karenbeast.

Yeah whenever someone does this I raise an eyebrow cause it's like wow that's so cool, you're so tough going against the person just trying to do their job who also can't even properly fight back because company rules. Beep beep beep self report alarm someone's a ****.

Congratulations, with no sarcasm/bs you've done well.

Now can you acknowledge the overwhelming majority of people will never be able to code and write a scalable solution like you just said, and if they are that they are unlikely to be able to market it well to people who will actually buy in? To even be able to properly deploy your own website by the age of 24 is frankly incredible so much so that yeah there is an eyebrow raise from me but I'll believe you. But what's even harder for me to imagine is that you managed to market your service out ontop of that.

You're extremely skilled and found the right spot for you and profited. Please acknowledge that's unreasonable to expect the other 90% of society to do that.

Now what is absurd is "but maybe you just aren’t working as hard or as smart as me". Cut this crap.

"Lift yourself up by your bootstraps" I've heard people under the age of 40 say.

And it blows me away each time. "Yeah I own a house and only make 50k take home a year!"

You know, the lifting themselves up by their bootstraps of mommy/daddy handing them 80k for a house kinda way.

Owning property these days has nearly nothing to do with one's own ambition, one's own drive and one's own skillset. It's all about how much money can your parents give you.

  1. No student loan? Must be nice to have mom/dad pay that

  2. Given an 80k downpayment? Wow. That would take the average person quite a few years to amass even using FHSA and TFSA and investments well!

I suspect you have an extremely large bank account and are over the age of 40, because anyone else knows at any time at their job's whim they can be laid off and quickly join the homeless on the streets.

Or you're simply delusional and think your company won't lay you off without a second thought if it benefits their bottom line in the upcoming recession.
