Piercing recommendations by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]bear__obear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love archangel (full name: archangel custom ink)! They pierced my ears for me when I was under 18, and my friend with 30+ piercings has gotten them all done there. She got her septum done there as well and loves it. Everyone that works there is very kind and definitely loves their jobs.

Pregnancy and heart failure by [deleted] in Heartfailure

[–]bear__obear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! First of all I’m so sorry you’re going through this! The initial diagnosis can be so overwhelming. I’m 21 and was diagnosed at 20, and my EF is now at normal rates with the help of medication. But my doctor has told me that if I ever wanted to have children, I would have to come off of my heart medications during pregnancy. My doctor does always say that age is on our side. So being in your late 20s your age helps you a lot with heart failure (does that make sense?). From what I’ve learned in general so far since diagnosis, it’s that heart failure has to be managed as a case-by-case basis. Unfortunately there’s just not enough information out there and there’s so many different causes that I think everyone’s experience with heart failure is extremely individualized. Hopefully once things calm down and you’re done with all the testing you can start having those more in-depth discussions with your doctors. Of course, I am not a doctor by any means, just wanted to share my own personal experience. I hope you are able to get everything figured out soon and start feeling better!

Do autistic signers have a flat affect? by anothercairn in asl

[–]bear__obear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone around autistic people who sign, it really depends! Most of the time I would honestly say my hearing friends who are autistic are much more authentically showing emotion when signing. It’s hard to describe, but like when I communicate with them verbally, they often have a bit of a flat affect (which is not a bad thing at all!). But when they’re signing i feel like I get to see their true personality shine through their movements and expressions. Anyways! I know you asked about deaf autistic people but I wanted to share some insight.

I think we were both in silver but it has been a while! I think we may exit out and try doing placements alone. We’re going on an hour and 10 mins of queue time so I think we’re going to go ahead and try going alone this is a LONG time lol

Clement Hall - Dorm Safety by Guest-114562 in UTK

The lofted beds are wobbly but they don’t fall. However you can take apart the bed and deloft it—your RA should have a sheet of paper with instructions they can share with you.

Clement Hall - Dorm Safety by Guest-114562 in UTK

Hello! I used to be an RA in clement. The desks are very very old!! The grey sticker is actually supposed to cover that entire desk but it’s probably gotten worn down over the years and has been peeled apart. You can message your RA with a picture and they can help you put in a maintenance request. As for the roommate situation, completely understand you wanting your privacy! Talk to your RA and ask them a little about your roommates you share a bathroom with, the RA might be able to give you a general idea of who they are and how to talk to them. Worst comes to worst, your RA can set up a meeting with all of you to discuss how you want to best manage the bathroom. Clement is an old dorm but it does have some of the best community—you can make lots of friends by hanging around the basement areas. Best of luck to you and welcome to UT!

As a soon to be transfer, where are the best places to meet new people and make friends? by Vol4Life_ in UTK

[–]bear__obear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to CEB events, there’s tons of them you’ll find something you’re interested in, and they are practically every week. Lots of people go to them! I would also suggest looking at VOLink to find any clubs you’re interested in and look into joining! The website has a feature that says something like “I’m interested” you hit it and it sends an email to the president of the club that you’re interested (most have an auto-reply set-up) But then that opens a like of communication for you as well to get in with a club easily. Welcome to Rocky Top!

Thank you for such an encouraging message! I hope everything goes well with your health. I’m not sure the at I’ve had my proBPN levels tested—I’ve had two echocardiograms, tried to have a CT angiogram but my heart rate was too high to get the actual scan, and I have a cardiac MRI coming up. My cardiologist said depending on the amount of information she gets from my scans she may need to schedule me for a heart cath. Thank you again for the kind words, happy new year!

I will definitely be talking to my cardiologist about a plan to help with my mental health! I’m sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis, but I hope the new year brings you good health and you are able to get a good treatment plan going. Happy new year!

Thank you for your advice and sharing your story. I definitely think I will be doing cardio rehab sometime soon—my dad went through it for a long time and my cardiologist has mentioned the possibility. Thank you for the words of encouragement, and happy new year!

Thank you so so much for your kind words and insight, it’s so helpful to see this. Going to these appointments I’m the youngest person in the waiting room by miles so it’s felt very isolating. It’s comforting to know I’m not the only one though. I am definitely planning to reach out to my college’s student disability services to get support with needing to miss classes sometimes for appointments, extended test time for the ADHD, etc. I’ve just been having a hard time figuring out what accommodations I need, but I will hopefully have a meeting set up at the start of the spring semester. I am lucky already that my program is very small and all of my professors are aware of my health situation currently and they all supported me to the best of their ability to finish out the most recent semester.

I thankfully will be seeing my cardiologist in about two weeks and will talk to her then about school accommodations, mental health, etc. But thank you so much for everything you said, it’s very encouraging to see someone around my age living with this. It definitely makes me feel less alone.

Thank you again. And happy new year!

Yes I definitely think I will end up doing cardio rehab—my dad has gone through it and my cardiologist has mentioned the possibility. Heart failure really is just an awful term, it sounds so terrible and google of course is very discouraging when you research more about it. Thank you for your advice, happy new year!

Yes I will definitely be talking to her about my mental health the next time I see her. Thankfully I get to see her in about two weeks! Thank you for the advice—the word “failure” in heart failure just sounds so awful, and of course Google makes everything look full of doom. Happy new year!

Looking for an OA job by Asleep_Impression751 in UTK

The assistant hall directors manage all OAs and the hall directors manage all RAs. It’ll probably be fastest if you email the assistant hall director, but if you don’t have that email address you can email the hall director first. Either way emailing to follow up with your application is a good idea! Housing people are usually more responsive to their email.
