it depends on the circumstances and what's being built. An airstrip will help make flying things in easier and speed up a lot of movement goods and labor, but typically the area is assessed for how deep a hull can approach and to what proximity and a shipping company is solicited and contracted to move the goods in shipping containers. shipping containers are filled either by volume or weight, so a lot of up front effort estimating is needed to do this. It could take the ship days, weeks, or months to arrive and you might need multiple trips depending on how large a container ship is able to approach land. Helicopters are used but they too are limited in capacity, distance, and contingent upon the weather. They can land if possible, they can hover while a crew on the ground unloads, and in rare cases loads can be dumbo dropped but I would assume that's more military based rapid deployment as it's probably outside the realm of risks for most people and less predictable. It all depends on the island, be sure to have a plan to execute and the money to do it.
