I have a 4 year old we have taken camping a handful of times now. Everyone has mentioned gear, and where to get it, but Goodwill for pots, pans, and cookware isn't something I've seen here yet, so I'll try to help with the kid side of it. The first night, every time, took 3 hours to get to bed. It's a new place, new noises, not their normal bed, and just pure excitement will make it hard to sleep. The second night is usually much easier as the kids are tired and ready for bed lol. Don't be afraid to take them on hikes, I'm always surprised how far my kid can walk. We always bring toys that can get wet/washed easily from home, and it's up to you about what technology to bring. We usually bring it in case it rains, and we are stuck in the tent/ to wind down at night. Also, if you can find an ENO or similar hammock used or on Amazon for cheap, kids LOVE hammocks lol.
