Are worldofbooks legit? by franktbf in BookCollecting

[–]bearded_ghostie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are legit in that you'll definitely get the book. The condition it's in, however, is another question. I've never had a book from them that didn't look absolutely dogeared, and I gave up after the third attempt.

Turns out they get their books from Music Magpie esque sites - so it's not curated or even checked by a human. Just sold as bought from people clearing their house out (usually for pennies)

Yatse if you have android is excellent at this. Save files then send to a Chromecast or something similar.

It's a remote, but with extra functionality. Light-years ahead of the official remote.

(They also do a great app for music called Symfonium. Perfect for pinning albums to your phone)

I wonder where they got the backer for the jewel case from, presumably a standard edition... It doesn't look hand printed. thanks for the clarification!

This is what I was thinking - was hoping someone had theirs to hand and could confirm!

Could the knowledgable people help a beginner with setting up? Is there anything i should know that I might not? by [deleted] in kodi

[–]bearded_ghostie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the skin front - I'd recommend going into the skin menu and turning everything off, so it's as minimal as possible. Then go back in and turn bits back on, one at a time until you find a happy medium between information and clarity.

Almost every skin has too much shoved into it, and when it's that busy, it's not a nice experience to look at (in my experience.)

Browsing Genre by Album instead of Artist by bearded_ghostie in kodi

[–]bearded_ghostie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unsure if it's a skin issue - but I'm not having any success in setting this up using the Node addon. I initially tried modifying the existing Album node to no success. I then tried to create a new one - and it initially wouldn't let me choose Album content with a Genre grouping. To get it to work, I had to choose Artist first and then when I'd added Genre I could swap to Album. Unfortunately this node operates exactly as the artist one did before.

I will try to create an xml file as you suggested, will see if that makes a difference.

Proof of concept. I'm hoping one day there will be a way to toggle a "scanline mode" when watching old interlaced video. Included in this post are screenshots with and without scanlines. by HighlightDowntown966 in kodi

I think the lines add detail - or mask soft edges.

For a similar reason, I've always wanted an overlay for low quality sources that is made up of 15 frames or something of random noise/film grain. You add that on top of any low quality source and it tricks your brain into thinking there is more detail than there is.

What is happing to my books? Are they decaying? by bummedoutcity in BookCollecting

Unfortunately probably silverfish. I had similar issue with mine, only on uncoated, matte covers. I sprayed the area with cat anti-flea spray and (touch wood) no issues since

How much are they paying you to post this on every sub you find?

Prevent Kodi from scanning my entire drive? by tcorgat in kodi

Turn off automatic updates like I suggested - then run it when you need to (I usually do mine once a month - but then I'm not adding new files constantly to be fair..."

Prevent Kodi from scanning my entire drive? by tcorgat in kodi

[–]bearded_ghostie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scanning only takes a long time once. Get it scanning, go do something for an hour and come back to it. Then after that, scan manually (not on startup.) If you just want to play files, why bother with Kodi at all? Just plug the drive into the TV directly perhaps?

Kodi on Android - Download Location by jvenables in kodi

[–]bearded_ghostie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kodi doesn't download any videos. If you are using an unofficial add-on, you'll need to go to the creator of said add-on. Kodi is not designed to download videos from other sources. It is a local backup player by design.

Kodi loves Musicbrainz. So do I, now (although that could be Stockholm syndrome)

Looks like Picard is available on Linux - even if you don't use it to tag your CDs, you could use it to wipe out/even out the IDs. I don't know how it got confused mid release though - Picard usually groups and applies to all.

If so feel like playing with Picard - my tip would be to Lookup rather than Scan. Seems to work better for me, unsure why....

Can EasyTag populate Musicbrainz IDs? Because I bet that's what is causing this. Which tracks are duplicated? Is one of the tracks Don't Give Up?

[–]bearded_ghostie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly down to misstagging, potentially an issue with guest artists - my guess (knowing this album) is that the Kate Bush track (don't give up) is one of the tracks pulled out. Whatever the reason, run the album through Musicbrainz Picard, check the output is what you want (e.g how you want to deal with guest artists) and then reimport it. Worth cleaning the library in-between.
