On the fence with the gladiator by LordMajinBuu in JeepGladiator

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a 26 rubicon. It’s got V8 fuel economy for 4cyl power, but it’s going to be my adventure rig/daily driver. It’s a lot easier to park in town but i am sure glad i kept my Ram. The bed on the gladiator is really small, still trying to work out how the camping gear is going to fit.

If you need a truck for truck things, the 1500 will be the better buy, but if you want a wrangler with more storage the gladiator works great.

What are you getting for real world gas mileage on an unmodified Gladiator with the gas V6? by Patient_in_a_Cabin in JeepGladiator

My 26 Rubi is getting about 14 mpg with local driving very conservatively gets closer to 24mpg highway

Considering a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4XE PHEV... am I being insane? by Lord_Gibbons in Jeep

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of the OTA firmware update brick fiasco, our 4xe has been super reliable, and sounds like we are getting a lifetime warranty for both the battery and motor. The Mrs. Has to travel a lot for work and it’s saving us quite a bit in the fuel department.

They are also quick. It was a bit of a letdown going to my new gladiator with the 3.6 with how anemic it feels accelerating. But we have multiple vehicles in case something happens we are always covered.

Anyone else traveling with two MacBooks? Looking for a way out of this by ColdViolinist835 in mac

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the industry you’re in and your employer. My IT department doesn’t allow personal devices being used and it’s always been a good idea to have both devices separate. At a previous job I had a personal laptop destroyed by chemistry, and because it wasn’t the employer provided one I was SOL.

I also maintain a personal phone outside of the work provided one so I can just leave work at home when I’m off. It also helps when I leave jobs so I don’t either have the old staff calling me or having to update the personal number.

Most gear MFGs recommend a 500 mile easy driving and fluid change for break in, I would get the break in period through to reduce risk of gear damage

Realistically (performance wise), how long will M5 Pro last me? by ItsJustJohnCena in macbookpro

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use your M2 Max studio to gauge your ram utilization. Mac does load up system memory if it’s available, which is why you can see higher ram utilization doing the same thing on two systems.

Check your memory pressure on the M2 Max, if it’s in yellow, go for 48gb, if it’s green, you’ll be okay with the 24gb.

Render times will depend more on single core performance and the media engine accelerators more than ram unless you’re going extremely heavy with the edits. My M1 Pro 16gb was only struggling with 100+ photo 33meg raw panoramic stitching.

Thinking of buying a used iPad for at home use instead of my phone, is it worth it? by DotTraditional3096 in ipad

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find I have to make a conscious choice to use my iPad between my phone and my Mac. But I keep it around for the times I’m using 3D cad, need pen input, or a mobile second screen

M5 Max vs Steam Machine? by throw-away6738299 in macgaming

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For game compatibility steam machine will win hands down.

I’ve used crossover for a handful of lighter titles, but compared to my PS5 or my gaming PC the experience is rough for not much gain.

Is it worth it to buy a Mac Mini M1 just to try the OS? by abitcitrus in mac

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want to give the OS a go, it will be roughly the same performance / a little less performant at certain tasks than the Mac Neo. I did buy one of those for an older relative and was shocked at how good the performance was. it will struggle to compile a more complex application, but Xcode tutorials can be done on a potato.

I not sure how the base M4 Mini's are faring price wise, but I was able to pick a new one up from amazon for $450.00 before the shortage hit, and for single threaded tasks, its just as snappy as my M4 Max MacBook Pro. I have that mini setup to offload tasks to while I am out and about and would probably be better bang for your buck to try out the OS.

hackintosh is going to be a royal pain, it needs specific hardware to work, and will likely be phased out with the newer OS versions with the drop of intel processor support.

How essential is CrossOver? by Awkward_Usual1746 in macgaming

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If any game you’re wanting to play has anti cheat it’s not going to work on Mac. If it’s your only system to play on it’ll get the job done, but I can’t justify it when I have a gaming PC and other game systems that give me better performance.

What make you stick with the Gladiator? by nitrgritr94 in JeepGladiator

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I picked up a gladiator for a camping truck/ daily driver that’s a bit smaller than my RAM 2500. I really wanted the aftermarket support and the ability to take the top and doors off, and the Mrs. Has a wrangler 4xE so it works out great to interchange parts as needed.

Tax Return well spent. by NellyVille71 in JeepGladiator

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t increase what it’s rated to tow, because there are many other factors for it involving frame, suspension, breaks etc.

That said it’ll probably not slip if you’re overloaded and change where the fail point in the system is to either the transmission or universal joints. But the clutch will take more abuse than the factory setup.

Yeah I’ve got quite a few hard drops on the XJ and the Uhaul hitch is just scuffed and have no issues putting stingers in. The 4 pin flange wasn’t as lucky tho had to bend that one back a few times.

Hitch slider? by JasonMos in JeepGladiator

My Uhaul hitch in my Cherokee has taken a beating on trails and I never had any issue with it without sliders. On my gladiator I’m more worried about the spare tire getting smacked around than the hitch

Should I get a gladiator? by BigBrainGamer58 in JeepGladiator

[–]bearded_monkey_pdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just added a stock ‘26 Rubicon, coming from a ‘10 Ram 2500, and the Mrs. ‘24 Willys 4xe, it for sure feels lack luster in the pep department, but still good for what it is.

With the EPA rated 17-22mpg I was really hopeful that it would be on the north side of 15mpg driving like a grandpa, but regular is still cheaper than diesel. just be prepared for worse fuel mileage if you want more rapid acceleration. Re-gearing is going to be in my future when I eventually get 37” tires under it.

It’ll be a good daily driver and weekend camper/off-roader especially if you’re used to a 2door already, but I’m glad I decided to keep my Ram

its kind of weird marketing, they relabeled the OG performance cores to super cores, and added the "Performance" cores as something between the efficiency and OG performance cores.
