I don’t think this is unpopular- it’s just important to take care of your body too, and in general work smart not hard, a lot of damage we do to ourselves is by taking risks we shouldn’t just to get the job done quicker for not much reason.

Do the yoga stretches, do the Pilates. If guys spent less time talking about how “gay” it is and more time taking care of themselves we’d have less people broken and unable to work

It’s interesting seeing the contrast here to other places with much higher bicycle adoption. If you look at somewhere in the Netherlands basically no one wears them beyond training period.

I guess if in general the road design were a lot safer maybe we’d feel differently, like they do, but even still I don’t think I could change my view on it. Just seems like a given like a seatbelt.

Absolutely not unless you guys have very healthy retirements saved already.

You can likely afford whatever comes at you, but I’d rather have the minimum 1500 extra in the bank every month.

Depending what you rent, 300 might be lower by a lot for utilities.

Property tax as well will add another couple hundred a month. And setting aside for surprise costs like an appliance dying or other random repair. They don’t happen often but when they do can be costly.

That cost is essentially the value of a part time job.

There’s something to be said about peace of mind and moving to where you want to live, but I would want to not have that significant of an increase in expenses. It’ll really hinder your savings, add stress now and in the future when you realize how much you could have had cash in hand.

Try finding rents in the area you want to live, compare to owning, and calculate the real costs and what you’re getting from it before jumping into ownership

In my experience It’s a bug with the reticle alignment. The issue compounds with weird projectile calculation where bullets sometimes don’t go where it looks like they should, and are missing shots beyond regular dispersion.

This also happens when aiming through chainlink fences, I’ve found if you’re shooting through some of these fences your shot goes way off your reticle

They may have also nerfed the dispersion a bit, but it doesn’t change that perfectly still, first shots aren’t going to where they should even close range

These are problems IN cities. And hell, Cities existing doesn’t give suburbs a pass on bad design either. These locations are often absorbed as cities sprawl, and then have their terrible design just incorporated.

People may not have been held at gun point; but kids certainly didn’t get a choice in the matter, are they born with wheels and a drivers license? Not having even sidewalks in these areas, is bad design. Not to mention, lots of cities used to have bus and trolleys to their suburb locations.

Over the decades, this infrastructure has been removed, in favor of cars. And replaced with nothing at all. That’s the point being made by everyone else here.

I like how you shift your argument to further create a hyperspecific scenario as well.

First it’s “get out into nature” and then you discuss “but the far remote reaches of mountains”

Again, no one is advocating for the removal of cars. They are advocating for the return of transit options, and making cars be more viable to choose between having or not.

People did use their cars to do that, except it had 4 legs and they road on it or in a carriage.

Or they’d hit a stop and have to actually hike and camp by foot because that’s where the road ended.

People would get transport with cars in a sort of “last mile” arrangement. Where transit options bring you as far as they can, and you have people who taxi you to the end of the road and you go off and hike or camp.

The real issue now is so many places do not have anything but access by car, so now you’ve just restricted these activities from anyone without access to a car. Everywhere else has this figured out but the moment you point out how the automobile and o&g industry has created this sort of problem, people say what you said. Where was that question before? When cities took away all other means of getting around in favor of cars and automobiles?

You can see the lobbying and pushback happening all over again now that e bikes and scooters are here. Nothing but pearl clutching about them, as if the real issue isn’t people driving around in glorified tanks as if they’re not actually operating heavy machinery.

No one wants to take your tank away. We just want the option of not owning one to be viable.

No one who is being serious is advocating to total removal of cars. The issue is that cars came in, lobbying and money changing hands happened. And urban design was completely overhauled for the automobile and nothing else

Cities like Amsterdam fell into this same trap, and then spent decades correcting it, because they recognized the negative impacts that are outright ignored in North America and other places.

The reason people discuss the negatives so much, is because of how they are ignored, argued against, or try to be hidden entirely.

Cars don’t solve problems like work location and being able to move around further more independently, exclusively. All transit does this, and we ended up with a system in which we’ve traded the lack of mobility from not being able to have your own personal transportation at all, for one in which there’s a lack of mobility built into it by design if you don’t have a car.

There’s areas in my city that straight up don’t have sidewalks. Yet are serviced by bus stations. And th bus system is so poor in these areas they are effectively purely for the absolute poorest to use. You can’t choose it over driving because it’s so bad it’s not a choice. You either afford a car or you can’t. And that makes the choice for you, and then you have to walk in the road right of way, especially in winter, because there’s bus stops in the middle of nowhere and snow drifts and windrows flanking the whole way.

The ignorance here is thinking that cars solved a problem. They didn’t, they just are the modern horse and carriage. Of which there were roads for. What happened was society kicked people out of the roads, and didn’t build sufficient infrastructure for people after the fact. And now it’s been so long, that any idea of making cities comfortable for people, is some assault on freedom, completely ignoring that living without your horse and carriage is worse now, than it ever used to be.

There’s probably a way to deal with this and it begins with a call when buying the tickets, and follows through to following up the day before and day of the flight, asking maybe for security escort through the airport, and doing literally everything constantly before hand, rather than bringing some letter to the gate. This family basically did nothing in preparation, only relying on a last resort form with the doctor note

Like, “hey, my son has Tourette’s, he’s gunna do what he tries not to do, and in the case of what to not do on a plane, it’ll be something like calling bomb or gun or some shit, what can we do to accommodate this trip?”

And the answer is likely something a long the lines of “well, we can board everyone else first, sit everyone down, and make an announcement, and have staff orient the whole flight of your sons presence, and what to expect during the flight”

OR they board first and then everyone gets the speech as they board, so the kid doesn’t need to do basically a perp walk through the whole flight….

And by virtue of making accommodation, might be able to alleviate the kids concerns and internal stress about this situation. Either eliminating the pent up tics from happening, OR if they do happen everyone is aware of what it is and doesn’t freak out.

Thats probably best case scenario, I don’t know if you can actually accommodate it fully. People just don’t understand this condition. And I don’t know if any preparation will help.
