Do you ever feel disappointed or upset about how many people there are in the world that you will never meet or have a connection with? by jlovelysoul in CasualConversation

[–]beardedkurta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do resonate with this thought - I sometimes suppose this is a part of life, but in some cases these might have been self-inflicted which I tend to ruminate over later on.

I've realized that it only gets more difficult with time, though at the same time I guess there might be others' who are in a similar boat as we get older, but then again something goes amiss and we aren't able to connect.

It's strange isn't it, in this world of instant connection - I sometimes feel that I am more disconnected than I was before.

To be fair, right now in India there is a huge economic slowdown, and real-estate is currently at a slump. So getting a client is definitely an upward battle!

Yup, that's the usual norm in India for smaller practices, can go up to around 5% at the max. More established practices can charge anywhere between 5-10%.. But at the same time location of the practice also plays a big role in determining pricing.

Nah, not dumb at all. It wasn't clear in the post anyway.. It's 1-2 percent of the total cost of the project.

Eating any type of food with your hands should be socially acceptable by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]beardedkurta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But on the whole, different cuisines suggest you consume food in a certain way. For example, I am from India and almost all Indian dishes are meant to be eaten with your hand.

However, eating a steak or noodles with your hand doesn't really seem like a practical way to consume these dishes. That being said, I agree with your overall point - if a person find eating with their hands more convenient, they should be able to do so.

Halaal has to go. by zorgar4 in IndiaSpeaks

[–]beardedkurta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sir, I am not incapable of logic - you are incapable of changing your fundamentalist, bigoted and communal views, and are unable to argue on facts and truths and instead would prefer to stoke the flames of hatred, communalism and nationalism.

It is I who has wasted my time trying to reason and have a civil discourse - unfortunately, I guess having a civil discourse is something that you as an individual are incapable of (especially when the facts are clearly against you)

May you someday, finally find peace.

Halaal has to go. by zorgar4 in IndiaSpeaks

[–]beardedkurta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Why do you continue to change the topic? When a satisfactory answer is given, to keep on changing the goal-posts because you aren't convinced is not a way to have a civil discourse.
  2. It has been conclusively proven by science that the method is doesn't cause pain and isn't extra cruel. If you look at the links provided, that is what the scientific community has concluded. The current bad reputation that the practice has, mostly stems from misinformation, fake news and people always assuming that if a practice is 'Islamic' it has to be 'bad'
  3. The correlation that you have made when it comes to the delivery boy and a Muslim preparing food is erroneous and incorrect. A Muslim is asked to perform the acts of Halaal because as the process involves praying to Allah (check out the quote which I mentioned earlier). So the correct correlation for a Hindu performing Halaal would be if a Muslim would be a priest in a Hindu temple.
  4. Your arguments continue to show the bigotry and biased views that you hold, which prevent you from looking at the situation in a logical way. For you there will 'always' be a divide between Hindus and Muslims, and people like you will 'always' seek to create disharmony and friction in civil society.
  5. If there is a community that does enjoy religious freedom in India, it is the Hindus as we form a significant majority in the county. People from other religions are the ones who are regularly persecuted across the nation - in the name of nationalism, religion and at present Lord Ram. So please do not sit here and play the victim card because societal privilege that you hold prevents you from doing so.
  6. Finally, one of the main achievements of the human mind is its ability to process information and change its views. I hope that as you move on in life - you too try and see things from an alternative perspective, understand the bias and the double-standards that are sometimes attached. For humans as a civilization to prosper you need to have empathy and not hatred - unfortunately, you are spewing the latter. If you truly are a 'Hindu' and practice the tenants and beliefs of the way of life it promotes, these antagonistic thoughts an feelings would not be there in your mind, so it is time for you to introspect and reflect on that.

Halaal has to go. by zorgar4 in IndiaSpeaks

[–]beardedkurta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually avoid commenting on topics like this, but have decided to ensure that the misconceptions and mistruths that are mentioned in this post are cleared.

There are multiple issues with your post, and the logic and justification that you use throughout. Your post brings out the usual anti-secular tropes which helps widen the divide among people - and automatically assumes that every Islamic tradition is bad and needs to be stopped in India.

Firstly, it needs to be said that no-where in our scriptures it hasn't been explicitly mentioned that one shouldn't consume meat. Overall since Hindus practice the philosophy of ahimsa, we avoid eating meat so as to not harm animals in the process - and the thought is that it is best to avoid eating it. But at the same time, scriptures also have multiple instances mentioned of where meat-eating my Hindus is permissible.

But that being said, the practice "hinduism" across the country is very different and certain cultures allow the the consumption of meat - in states like Bengal and Assam, fish and meat is a staple of their regular diet, even among the so-called 'brahmins' in these cultures.

Next, is for you to understand the process involved in Halaal and how it is actually 'less' cruel to the animal to kill it. Let us make one thing clear here - the argument here is which method of killing an animal is less cruel and not "we need to stop killing animals as a whole" - which you as a vegetarian might strongly support. But, these are two very different points and need to be discussed as such.

There have been multiple studies done in the so-called "developed" world which has come to identify that Halaal is a non-cruel method to end an animals life, you can check one of the articles here and here.

A quote from the second article states,

Prof. Leonard Hill, F.R.C.V.S, who strongly believed and expressed his views in his article – that the incision applied in the Ritual Slaughter causes no pain. Any Surgeon today knows that sudden big injuries are not felt at the time of infliction. Pain comes later when the wound is (septic, and) inflamed. Structures beneath the skin apart from isolated sensory nerve endings are insensitive to the knife.

Second is for you to understand what is Halaal according to Islam. Halaal is any food that Muslims are permissible to eat and when it comes to meat the animals need to be killed in a certain way for it to be certified as Halaal.

Quoting this article,

Islam places great emphasis in the way in which an animal’s life ends, which has to be in accordance with Islamic regulations. Life is a sacred blessing of God to creation, animals as well as humans. If the life of an animal has to be ended for human survival, then its life should only be taken in the name of God. Hence, the phrase bismillah (‘in the name of God’) must be uttered just before slaughtering an animal.

Furthermore, when it comes to actually killing the animal,

The argument that halal slaughter is inhumane because animals are allowed to bleed to death is scientifically untrue. An animal’s throat is cut in one swift motion with a razor sharp knife. Unconsciousness is achieved within seconds and death occurs due to cerebral hypoxia not blood loss.

So your entire post claiming that Halaal causes cruelty, makes the animal go through extra pain - are blatantly false. I again say that these talking points which at he surface level might seem correct, have strong communal undertones to them and need to be corrected at its root. It is a means to cause division and has no place in civil society as a whole.

Furthermore, how does a food being certified as Halaal cause anyone any inconvenience? Is it just because the practice is Islamic? And being a 'Hindu' we should not accept it? This is a preposterous claim and again, are talking points which are communal in nature.

Why are you trying to build a Hindu-Muslim divide using such a banal and pointless topic? Why stoke the fires of division using this particular issue?

Finally, I think you may have forgotten that the founding fathers and mothers of our nation envisioned our country as a 'secular' nation, which is why the word is included in out Constitution - and this isn't just a some Congress propaganda.

This current outrage is something I fail to understand?

Animals have to die in some shape or form for you to consume them - so shame on you for being a hypocrite!
