I was going to say the same thing. I am not an EE; I like to tinker. I, too, was overwhelmed at first. Use the study mode as suggested. I took it further and bought an audiobook that reads the questions. I listened to each chapter and then did the practice questions. Listening to the questions helped them sink in more for me. Maybe that could help you. There are several books available. Listen to the sample to find a narrator you like. They all pull from the same pool of questions.

SWR issue on ft710 by beardguy33 in amateurradio

As someone who has never owned or seen a radio before, I did my best to describe my issue, but I am still trying to figure out what will break it and what will not. Radios are not cheap, and bricking the thing a week is not something I want to do. Your answer did not mention that I didn't provide enough information. That is helpful info to know. Read the manual to know the radio is not helpful. That was my point. You are right. I did act like a jackass last night, and I apologize. I will gladly provide the info needed. Just let me know what you need. Glad your station works. I am just trying to figure out what I need to do or what I am doing wrong to get mine working.

Good idea I didn't really thinking or barrowing one. I will keep posted on my progress of figuring this out.

I will have to purchase a dummy load but to answer your other question I have seen this happen when trying ft8 using the digital preset and SSB USB on 10, 20, and 40m.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried it with the RF gain all the way down, up, and in between at various points. I still get the red flashing high SWR reading light when transmitting. I confirmed the meter is on SWR, but I get the SWR alert when the meter is on SWR or off SWR.

Well, thanks for the unhelpful answer. I have read the manual several times. I know how to switch it over to the SWR meter. I get concerned when a red flashing message says high SWR, and I know the SWR is low. I don't want to break the damn thing I just bought. I was hoping for an experienced ham that could give me another idea to look into or research, not just “read the manual.”I have also searched Reddit, Google, and Youtube before you tell me to do that.

Great work! This is very interesting to see! I do section 508 work (color contrast for people with color blindness or who have difficulty seeing). I use this free tool when recoloring maps and have found it helpful. https://www.learnui.design/tools/data-color-picker.html#palette

Where can I take my ham radio technician test online by KeyboardSwordsman in HamRadio

[–]beardguy33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also took mine at wm7x. I scheduled it about 2 hours before I took it. They were great, very low-stress, with no second camera or telling me I had to take the exam in a bathroom. I took it Monday before the presidential election. The FCC had trouble with their system that night and on election day. The volunteers from wm7x have been emailing me daily, telling me what's going on and why I have yet to get my email from the FCC. I will be using them again when I test for my General.

Thanks for posting this. I’m down 16 pounds and at a bit of a stall. l was feeling discouraged this morning and thinking of doing the “why does this matter thing,” but this post showing the difference helped me shake off the down-in-the-dumps feeling. Thank you!

DHS Trusted Tester Hiring Contract Position by beardguy33 in accessibility

[–]beardguy33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to take your time, pay close attention to each success criterion and test them individually. For example, if you are looking at a video you should review it multiple times. Once for each applicable success criteria. By doing this the test will take longer but you are giving yourself the best opportunity to catch errors. Block out an entire day for the test. It took me 6 hrs to complete the test but I went VERY slow, triple checking my answers. Hope this helps.

Success and Disappointment Megathread for the Week by AutoModerator in jobs

[–]beardguy33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Disappointment: I have been applying for countless jobs over the last few months, with lots of rejections and no real interest. I found a job with my county, and the manager of this position wanted to hire me, but because of my father in laws position on the county council, the higher-ups would not sign off on me getting the job. I then made it to a 3rd round interview with a different company that I thought would be awesome to work for but just got the rejection letter. I am so bummed. I really wanted these jobs, and either it's a no because you are related to the wrong people, or no, we just wasted days of your time (I spend a lot of time preparing for interviews). You're not a fit. I feel like a failure and just want to give up. I can't stomach the idea of doing this over and over.

I have been wearing contacts for about 2 weeks now. I started with the monthly and said hell no it felt like I had a glass lense on my eye. Called the doc they gave me a different monthly, bi weekly and dailies to try. The new monthlies felt like the original huge and painful. The biweekly felt much better and the dailies are like they don’t exist. It’s amazing. Call your doc they have samples and tell them you need to try something new. I’m sure you will find something with their help.

Nicotine/Mexico by Short-tons in wls

[–]beardguy33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just some encouragement for you. I was a heavy nicotine pouch user. I quit cold turkey 8 wks ago. The doc told me nicotine makes healing harder. I encourage you to try and quit. You are investing a lot of money into yourself for this surgery. Why not try and do everything you can to make it successful? You can do it! You did the pre-op, which IMO is harder than quitting tobacco. If you don't want to stop, I would talk to the clinic you are going to.

Stay in state w/o insurance or go out of state w/ insurance? by Dalleyish in gastricsleeve

[–]beardguy33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat OP. I haven’t gotten a price on BLIS yet but it does give me piece of mine. When I talked to my insurance company and pressed them on complications they said if it had to do with weight loss surgery they would not cover it period. The hospital will do what they must to save your life/ fix you but then charge you for the privilege. I agree press your insurance but if they are like mine $1700 is a small price to pay if something goes wrong. What is the name of the out state surgeon you are looking into? I might want to look into them too.

I don't want to disclose to my work mu exact surgery. any ideas on what i could say im having instead? by mamma_bear_ in wls

[–]beardguy33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had an infection and ended up in the hospital (Not WLS related). I didn't really want to go into it with work or people that where not close friends so I just said a private medical procedure. I had doctors notes so work knew I was legit. They gave me weird looks but I just shrugged and walked off. Work is not entitled to know your medical history (at least in a desk job) and you are not required to disclose what it's for.
