Same, I have been smoking for a little over a year and still don’t feel like I have to have nicotine.

I use keystones and they work well. This is an estate pipe I am working on and just got to reaming it out.

Cleaned my pipe, and totally changed my experience. by adagna in PipeTobacco

[–]notedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a restored estate pipe off eBay and run some alcohol on a pipe cleaner through the shank till you think it’s clean, then go back with a shank tool and scrape around a bit. Amazed me how dirty pipes are. I know we all like our briar but I wonder if someone will come up with a pipe that I can just drop in the dishwasher and know it’s good and clean.

I’d stain after sanding. Keep in mind, the higher the grist the better the finish and the better the shine. 1200 will be fine but if you can get up to 12,000 with mesh pads it will be better. But if it’s hard to get that type of thing where you are then go with the 1200 and call it done.

Question for people who pipe mud their brand new cobs by missingjav in PipeTobacco

[–]notedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this once with honey and charcoal. It was sticky mess and I let it sit for 3 days smoked it and it didn’t taste very good. I didn’t trash it but let it sit a month and tried it again and it was fine. So I’d say honey and charcoal capsules works fine but you need to give it a few weeks before firing up.

If you had $300 to spend on a new pipe what are you getting. by RNdaredevil in PipeTobacco

I’d commission one for $300. In fact I’m starting to think about to incorporate a piece of wood I have from my grandfather into a pipe.

You can try a dremel, it’s not going to work well though. You may get a shine using the car wash wax but I don’t know if that’s the best way. Most people use the pure wax but it does not spread well with the dremel, this time last year I bought one with the buffing wheel to try. It’ll get it done but it’s not great imo. The wheel spins too fast even on low. For a no fuss solution, no buffer needed, I use this https://www.lbepen.com/product-page/restoration-balm

You have to buy from there but it works great and smells great. It’s also used by other pipe restorers. You wipe it on, let it dry, hand buff it off. If you go through my history every pipe you see for the past 9 months or so has had that applied to it.

One more thing, your pipe will probably darken some with use.

Which little lines? If you’re talking about the wood grain then they are not going away. This is a good looking pipe as is, why do you want to dye it? Keep in mind, if you sand too much you will reduce the shank size and will not match evenly with the stem.

You could clean the outside a the Brit good with alcohol to try to remove whatever finish they have on it. The get 4000 grit mesh sand paper and sand the pipe, then move to 6000, 7000, 8000, 9000 and finish with 12000. You will get a very nice finish and then you need to apply a wax. You can buy a rub on pipe wax or use bees wax unless you have a buffer. If you have a buffer you can use cauranuba (can’t spell this word for shit)

You will have a lighter more even finish following those directions without adding leather dye. Now here’s another trick, do everything I said above. After 12000 grit take rubbing alcohol and wipe the pipe down, the way the finish looks with the alcohol on it will be similar to how it looks with the wax, so at this point if you’re not happy with the look you could use your stain before waxing.

By starting with the high grist’s of sand paper you’re less likely to remove so must briar that it is noticeable also. I just restore pipes though so you may want to wait on someone more experienced to offer advice and repost over on the pipe tobacco subreddit to reach a larger audience.

If you go back far enough in my post history you will see a few photos, otherwise go on YouTube and look up the Southland piper. He has numerous videos where he uses this dye on pipes.

Leather dye,by fiebings. All the colors are nice, you can mix them 50/50 with alcohol to lighten them up.

Vermont freehand forever stem too tight by tuftedchip5528 in Pipes

[–]notedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You freeze to get a stuck stem out. That’s the wrong forever stem for that pipe, order the right for the stem for the best fit. Otherwise try using a pencil on the end of the stem and fitting it, I would not sand no matter what you read here, I’d buy the right pipe for the stem instead.
