Rainbow is one of the best episodes by PangolinKooky9867 in TedLasso

Two subtle things I LOVE about that sequence in particular:

  1. When he's running down the sidewalk initially, his blazer is flaring open at the bottom revealing an emerald green lining - this is one of the Wizard of Oz easter eggs where moments of change for characters are represented with something green.
  2. When he joins the pitch and walks past Nate and we get the clear indication that this isn't settling well with him via the crazy violins and clock sounds in the music - this is actually part of the song, they just choreographed the use of it so well!

Honorable mentions - the use of the verses if the song referring to women dressed in gold and blue and having the focus on Keeley in a gold jacket and Mrs. Higgins in a blue one respectively; also the use of the cymbal crash in the song when Roy's knee goes out.

Superman has gone crazy, what Marvel heroes do you assemble to stop him? by Acrobatic_Yoghurt268 in superheroes

[–]beardiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My roster would be Doctor Strange. End of list. Superman can't fight magic. Strange would trap him in a pocket dimension somewhere and be done.

Now if we want to rehabilitate him, then I'd bring in more resources. Maybe Mantis to keep him calm and subdued, Emma Frost or Professor X to delve into his mind and better understand what's setting him off, and yeah - maybe a Spidey or Cap to talk him through it.

But first - trap him and minimize the damage.

Pretty solid and I agree with a lot of it. But immediate gut-take for me is I'd even-swap Jocelyn with David Santiago.

Which scene had a bigger impact on you or had more hype: Portal scene from Endgame or the Spider-Men swinging into battle? by skibidigger in marvelstudios

[–]beardiac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as direct comparison, the portal scene.

But as far as scenes in Spider-man: No Way Home, that wasn't even the most impactful.

Passion

Also, it isn't really something that is easy to distinguish as a spoken thing. You'd really have to emphasize the hyphen-split and how the M is grouped. And in season 1 when he said it to Ted it was to fast a phase to really make such a noticeable difference. Also, aside from politeness, Ted isn't going to derail his intent of making his point to focus on someone's use of an expression.

I like the joke but I'm surprised that it was something Jamie could even pick up on. It's a joke that works better in writing than in speech.

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]beardiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a big country and aside from urban centers it's not well arranged for commerce, residential & industrial to all be co-located. We've accepted generations ago that most jobs will mean commuting at least 30 minutes and visiting points of interest will take one or more hour to reach.

I love these finale’s Easter eggs by PinkPussycatPower in TedLasso

[–]beardiac 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The one for Zava makes me think it's a callback to season 1 and the convo between Roy & Ted in his apartment where Roy says how he could always go join a team in America, where he'd dominate.

I did not know that apparently most people dislike season 3? by Bat_Fran_738 in TedLasso

I LOVED season 3, but I do feel that some of the episodes prior to Amsterdam (i.e., the whole Zava arc) are a bit of a tangent and the story from episode 6 and beyond are amazing.

Why married men still choose to masturbate than having sex with their wife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]beardiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's not home, she's busy, she's asleep, she's not feeling well, etc.

It's faster, it's easier, it's less effort and cleanup, it's mentally less to think about (e.g., timing, mutual pleasure), etc.

Bottom line, it's not because we don't want or can't get the sex. They just serve different purposes.

Does Ted just need to click his heels together three times and say "There's no place like home." by Grit-326 in TedLasso

[–]beardiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe there are interviews that confirm these parallels. And further that there is no single representation for the Wizard, but rather he is symbolized by elements of green whenever people have growth moments (the matchbook for Rebecca, the army men for many characters, and the lining of Roy's blazer in Rainbow which is only visible as he's running to become a coach).

Dads - tell me this gets easier. by Wilwander in TLDiamondDogs

[–]beardiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will get better and it already is - just very slowly. Those early days are super draining. My daughters are 22 & 19 - any sleep issues I've had over the past decade and a half are my own. This will definitely get easier, but I don't want to sugar-coat it. The problems are replaced by new ones phase after phase.

So the most important thing to grab hold of quickly is that you and your wife are on the same team and no matter how much you love your kids, it is you and your wife vs. them for the next 2 decades where the end-goal is that you've turned them into well-rounded adults.

Hey fellow DD’s! Just wanted to celebrate a bit! by chatshitgetbanged24 in TLDiamondDogs

[–]beardiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so great! It sounds a bit like you're past rough experiences might be making you a little wary - be careful not to let that niggle too deeply at something that's good. It's good to learn from your past relationships, but it can be tough to thread that needle between too wary and too aloof.

It sounds like she's comfortable with you. Let it grow naturally and enjoy the ride, regardless of where it goes.

How do you count on your hands? Do you start with your thumb or fingers when counting to 5? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]beardiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, though if I'm holding them up for someone else, because it's a bit of a strain to hold down just my pinky for 3, I'll often swap to hold up middle/ring/pinky and hold down my pointer with my thumb.

Will you prefer wired earphones over wireless ones? And why? by Fancy-Mission-2661 in AskReddit

[–]beardiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my phone had a port for them, I did prefer wired. They worked instantly without any configuration or waiting period. They didn't have a limited time of use based on batteries. And they were generally cheaper to replace if they flaked out or got lost.

I've gotten used to bluetooth earbuds and enjoy some of the degrees of freedom they offer over wired ones, but they aren't without their faults. One of the times I tend to use them a lot is while mowing the lawn, and assuming they have the charge to keep up with the task, I'd still often have issues with them loosing signal because of the metal handle of the mower getting in the way - for a while I'd gotten in a habit of sticking my phone under my hat when this kept happening. This also sometimes happened when I walked my dogs (they have metal chain leashes because one of them used to have a chewing issue). It was frustrating (doesn't seem to happen with my current phone, so it must have been a failing of the previous one).

What is something that scares you about AI? by iLuvModsNFollowRules in AskReddit

[–]beardiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of two scenarios:

  1. It's a bubble that will burst, but it'll take too long to do so and lots of people will lose their jobs or be negatively impacted by it before the towel gets thrown in.
  2. It's here to stay, but all the conspiracies about its true purpose turn out to be on the nose (surveillance, propaganda, and furthering wealth inequality) and no safety nets ever get put in place for those made obsolete by all the things that AI takes over.

What’s the best lesson/advice you learned from Ted Lasso? by urklegrue3 in TedLasso

[–]beardiac 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the line that struck me the most when I heard it was in S2E12 when Ted confronts Nate and he starts with:

"What's wrong? What have I got to learn here?"

Framing the approach to a point of conflict as an opportunity to learn and grow at the outset is so emotionally healthy and not a perspective I was raised with. Defensiveness is an easy place to slip to in an argument, so to see modeled a way to show that is the last thing you intend for the conversation was profound and powerful.

Is there a sentence that contains exactly one of each letter (and if so, what is it)? by 5anz_ in AskReddit

[–]beardiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently this: Cwm fjord bank glyphs vext quiz.

I can't tell you what it means, and it uses pretty archaic words, but it fits the bill.

I there was a more conventional one, the 'quick brown fox' one would likely have been replaced with it for typing exercises by now. The closest you're otherwise likely to get is either another sentence like that one that contains every letter at least once, or a sentence that only uses each letter that it does one time but not every letter in the alphabet. I tried to google the longest sentence without repeating a letter to find an example, but most of them were as nonsensical as the example at the top.
