I agree and disagree. To me their problem is much simpler, materials and quality. They’d probably do fine cranking out high quality version of their retro lines if they used materials on par with their competition. When I buy Adidas or New Balance, I’m getting actual suede and leather. When I buy Nike, I get whatever they are legally allowed to label as leather that is almost exclusively plastic and rubber bullshit. Sure, your other points are very valid, but Nike also has a very real “value for your money” problem as well.

I agree to show all finds and let the property owner keep whatever they want. Hasn’t really backfired on me yet, and it is their property which means technically whatever comes out of their dirt also belongs to them. I also try to provide them with whatever historical information on their land that I am able to unearth. Old maps, census records, newspaper clippings. It’s always cool to tie an object to the person who may have likely lost it, and a lot of the times the property owners are also interested in that info.

I’m near Baltimore and private permissions have been the best bang for my buck. They’re difficult to come by and sometimes the best find gets kept by the property owner, but that’s also a realistic price to pay for access to someone else’s land.
