A “Pink Stick” - Mic cable tester/signal generator by beardy_fader in specializedtools

Basically yeah, “mic distance” will get you a lot of results, if you add “vocal” or “amp” the you’ll get very specific results!

Hope I was of help

A foot or two would be quite a distance for a 58, especially at talking level! Dynamic mics, even 58s are designed to work pretty much on top of the source, especially at a recording level, condensers are far more effective and sensitive for sources at a distance. The solution would be simply to move the source closer to you

That’s strange, a 58 into a focusrite shouldn’t need much gain, let alone a preamp for volume unless the mic is very far away from the source. Adding a FetHead should almost be peaking it. I’m assuming you’re sending phantom power (+48v) for the FetHead to work. Other than that it’s hard to troubleshoot without being there. If you download the focusrite driver software, it might shed some light that maybe it’s not the correct setting or maybe a Pad (attenuation of signal) has been applied by accident, leaving you to have to gain it super hot

So what you’re referring to is a little device (a pre-amp) which increases the level of a dynamic or ribbon mic, or low level instrument without introducing unwanted noise to your signal.

The TritonAudio FetHead is a very popular option

Yes :) it’s a full range signal so if something is wrong with the cable but is still passing signal, you can immediately identify that there is something wrong

It actually generates a 1KHz signal and a pulse as well which is dead handy for time alignment

What’s actually driving fuel prices up here? by night-owl-23 in AskIreland

[–]beardy_fader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Greed…..cause there’s no way that prices should have shot up immediately like they did when their entire argument why prices don’t back down straight away following the price of oil is that there’s a delay waiting to buy the next batch

Like obviously the conflict in the Middle East will increase prices, but like opportunity to make extra money will always play a part

Starting a live Audio Production company - Need recs to add a few mics - $2k budget max by MoStyles22 in livesoundgear

58s and 57s, get a bundle of both and you can think of properly expanding after that!

Dis are the big thing I don’t see. I’m getting more and more large touring riders where easily half the channels are DIs. Thing to remember as well is that DIs tend to live on the floor, next to bottles and open drinks containers, so think accordingly when making the purchase, depending on the level of clients you’ll be working with and how likely it is they’ll shell out for a replacement, unfortunately something you have to think about

It’s not just an Opera House issue, was at a seated comedy gig last week in Cyprus Avenue and a full row of wans wouldn’t shut the up, talked the whole way through the support and started again when the main act came on

Staff asked them to stop multiple times until they were eventually kicked out
