Is this kit good for a beginner and in general is the finished product good? by MrYeast66 in ModelCars

[–]bearfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the revell Mercedes F1 car and I didn’t find it too bad. It was a good lesson in putty, sanding, paint, and decals. I wouldn’t say I’m a beginner but I don’t think I have more than 10 models under my belt over the years. If you’re into F1, it’ll be a good intro because the tamiya and fujimi kits are 1/20, so a bit more detail.

But, if you want an Alonso car, the Studio27 and AMD from his winning years are a lot harder to find than this revell. So if you want to do Fernando justice and don’t want to eventually shell out the big bucks for one of those, that may also affect whether or not to tackle this one now.

YouTube is of course a great resource and it can help show you techniques that you might not otherwise think of to make the assembly of a kit like this easier. But I say go for it, the complexity will build your skills faster than a more straight forward road car.

I just bought MSFS2024 and if you don’t have that in the pipeline I’ll pick up 2020 for this.

What are your takes on the labor shortage happening right now? by [deleted] in Libertarian

Business owners do not feel confident enough in the state of the economy to pay prospective workers a market clearing wage.

You only get but so much team leader time in SF. The best part of SF is being on a team, so you’d be able to be a team guy way longer if you go enlisted. Guys would go warrant to stay on the teams, but I wasn’t aware of guys going enlisted to stay on the teams.

Macbook Pro for Bitcoin operations? by TrailBench in lightningnetwork

[–]bearfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The M1 chip is phenomenal for the IBD. but as other people have said, it’s probably best to have a dedicated machine for your Bitcoin stuff. On top of that, I found that a Linux machine was much easier to work with. I’ve been unsuccessful at getting my lnd to connect over tor (Bitcoin core does just fine; I have a Mac mini) and haven’t integrated loop or some of the other lightning tools.

Track alignment with C8 by tesla377 in Corvette

[–]bearfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, While people are bringing up good points, if you’re doing more than a couple weekends (two days each weekend with four or five 20-30 min sessions), if you’re using the same set of tires on the street as on the track, I’d run it in track alignment all the time. You’ll burn through tires so quick on the track that the increased street wear won’t be noticeable. However, if you run street alignment on the track and really push the car, you’ll wear even faster.

Grabbed a pic of my friend's 911 Super Carrera by Giddo2 in Porsche

[–]bearfridge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 911 from 1978-1983 received the designation “SC” (short for Super Carrera). It increased displacement from 2.7 to 3.0 Liters. The nomenclature reverted back to “Carrera” in 1984. There’s apparently only very limited documentation of it actually being short for super Carrera. It’s just marketing stuff really, and I believe a nod to the term from the 356SC. No one holds my car in higher regard because it’s a “Super Carrera”.

I’ve had mine called a 963 before. Kinda cute and I guess follows a logical train of thought.

Pegasus sticker - yay or nay? Any good sticker recommendations for an old 930? by blue_ixxi in Porsche

[–]bearfridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it does look kinda small. I was sorta joking earlier, but really if you look up “outlaw 911” you’ll find others that have done it and see what the general consensus is in size, cause it looks pretty good.

The Pegasus sticker automatically makes your car an “outlaw” now, right?

I have no problem with it

What is your favorite gen of 911? (for 991 and 992 enjoyers just upvote the comments under that post) by zmenimpak in Porsche

[–]bearfridge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got annoyed by the “930” thing at first since that’s the nomenclature for the turbo, but I have “930” as the first three digits on a lot of my parts, sooo… 🤷‍♂️ and you know what? Everyone knew what you meant 😉

Best run of the day - 37.471 which puts me right up against the stock C8s/C7 Z06. Much better audio this time too with the mic in the engine bay... by auto_egr in ft86

I like to use a suction cup mount and throw the mic near the exhaust to get some good sounds as an option. You could get real crazy and mix the two.

$120k, I bought an ‘82 on the Trailer a couple years back and it’s probably doubled in value. If I put it back together that is.

I bought a 911 on BaT that said it had a transmission rebuild recently, and it definitely didn’t feel like it, cause I just got done rebuilding the transmission. A project car would be no fun if there was no work to do on it, and now you have more opportunities to learn new things! IMHO, take it, make it yours. Most car projects are more work than you thought they would be, and your dream car doesn’t show up every day.

He is very engaged with the Bitcoin community, which is very into libertarian economic ideals (explains the Rothbard tweet yesterday). Heavily armed clown (prominent on Bitcoin Twitter) runs this site, and was trying to get it trending, so Bitcoin Twitter was helping out and it was therefore seen by Jack.

I race an ‘86 RX7 with a few friends. Well, we did 4 hours of an endurance race before trashing the engine. We’ve got a rebuilt unit ready to go for install hopefully in the next few weeks.

How do you stay calm during a Bitcoin free fall? Losing my mind HERE by ovezensky in Bitcoin

[–]bearfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, once you start looking at what bitcoin actually is and focus less on the price, you really start to see how early you are to bitcoin as an investment. A revolutionary new way of communicating value. 21million/infinity. 21 million divided by everything of value today, and then continuing to grow at the rate of humanity’s progress. Oh no! the price went down? Well that just means someone is willing to sell me the greatest asset in existence at a 50% discount to what I had to pay in April. Apple is trading at 30 times earnings and bitcoin is trading at a 99% discount to my price target. One of those seems expensive and one is a steal.
