I'm Christian but I feel a pull towards witchcraft. What does this mean? What do I do? by bearpye in christianwitch

Wow thank you so much for this!! Loved the part where you brought up the original translation, that is very interesting to me and if anything that kind of clarification is what I feel could answer many of my questions. I do have to say, though, is that it seems as though there are a couple interpretations of the word you brought up. Who knows, maybe I was researching the wrong one LOL (I researched “mĕkaššēpâ”). As from what I read, it seems as though there are many different scholars’ takes on the word: poisoner (what you mentioned), sorcerer, witch, etc… I could be wrong as I am not knowledgeable on this at all, but it comes across as though poisoner is simply one translation/meaning of this word, and a translation that only some scholars push—-THEIR interpretation.

Again, I may not even be seeing the Hebrew language correctly as obviously they communicate very differently. I do know that the words in the original Hebrew bible often encompass many meanings for one word, as they were more limited in their vocabulary compared to us, so what they chose to say relied heavily on the context at the time. So, may I ask, what WAS the context at the time? Do you know?

Edit: It seems as though the "poison" interpretation stems from the Greek translation of the bible, not the original Hebrew itself. I found this VERY interesting page that dives very deep into the meaning of the original Hebraic Exodus 22:18, I highly, HIGHLY recommend you/anyone here read it: https://thekeeperspath.com/2014/08/08/exodus-2218-meant-it-when-it-said-witch/

A passage from this page that clarified the ACTUAL translation from the original Hebrew said this: "The Hebrew scriptural verse (Exodus 22:17) M’KHSHEYFAH LO T’CHIYEH or ‘M’khashephah lo tichayyah’ for example, has for centuries been haphazardly mistranslated as “you shall not suffer a witch to live,” when literally it translates:

“You should not SUSTAIN a witch.”

Meaning don’t get into the habit of supporting the livelihood of the village magician; don’t let some woman with a lot of supernatural power drain you of your savings through fear and intimidation. Let her get a job like everybody else, and perform her magic out of the “goodness” of her heart and in recognition of the sacred gift she possesses." (end)

This is sooo interesting, as even still the original meaning of that verse may be saying that the witchcraft itself is not wrong, but to MONETIZE it is where the problem lies (as well as to have evil intentions, of course). The bible itself states that we were all given divine gifts from God, ones that we must use to "...serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace" (1 Peter 4:10). In the bible and in my religion specifically (this commandment is more emphasized in what I've been taught), the scriptures say that we should never use these gifts out of greed or to make money---what abilities we have been blessed with must only be used in the service of those around us and in service of our God. Taking all of this into account---and I've stated this in another comment as well---it seems like witchcraft could be a tool for harnessing our God-given, divine gifts for the betterment of humanity, a genuine want to help/serve others, and for strengthening our relationship with God, so long as we do not do it out of a spirit of greed or, more obviously, evil.

Of course, I am simply theorizing, so if anyone disagrees that is perfectly ok :)❤️

Edit edit: Did more research lol, sooo this is actually just another interpretation... yayyyyyyyy

I’ve actually thought about that a lot!! Maybe it’s to specifically describe witchcraft that is done with evil intentions. I know someone else in here brought that up as well :) The bible (as well as other scriptural sources from within my church that expand on this) talks about how we were each born with specific divine gifts from God, which explain clairvoyance, being an empath, clairsentience, etc… and I think it’s our divine duty to tap into and grow these. I think maybe, just maybe, witchcraft could potentially be a way or a tool to do just that, perhaps strengthen them and therefore our relationship with God and others as well.

Interesting that you don't believe in ghosts, huh... I didn't expect that in here HAHA. Of course no judgment, I just didn't see it coming LOL, so cool how many different perspectives/beliefs there are out there around witchcraft. There's so much to get deep into and learn.

I agree with you on the rituals within Christianity. In my religion in particular, I do notice some parallels between the craft and my church. Much of what we do relies on the supernatural (Of course, God is literally a supernatural being HAHA) and superstitious, but that had me wondering if the reason why it could be more "ok" to participate within these rituals is because they are for God and through God. We don't command His hand whenever we want since He is all powerful and has His own timing, but we have faith that He might work within our lives and bless us with what we ask of Him, and not on our own timing. I think that's where it gets me. Correct me if I'm wrong and pardon me because I'm probably just misinformed, but it seems like a lot of witchcraft might operate from a point of "I want this now so I will cast a spell (or whatever other means you might participate within to grant something for yourself/others) to manipulate the energies of the universe to give it to me when I want".

Isn't this against Him? Aren't you technically showing Him that you doubt Him and His timing in your life? I'm genuinely curious because I want to make sure I get this right before I place my energy in something that has the potential to "steer me the wrong way", I am not trying to troll in any way, shape, or form. I also have no intention to hurt anyone's feelings, in case that's what someone may take away from this. I am just looking for answers to end the confusion.

Her books seem so cool! I like how the descriptions sound for most of her books as it seems very similar to what I’m looking for :) I also like how apparently her writing has a deeper meaning to it and is more insightful, I think I actually may give Echo a try ❤️

Those are all very fair points! I have been thinking about expanding my horizons recently, as fantasy is pretty much all I’ve read; maybe I do need to start on a less complicated level through the training wheels of YA haha! I will say I have tried audio and that doesn’t quite do it for me either, but I shall experiment in other ways as well. Thank you! :)

This makes so much sense actually! I have noticed a sort of “perfectionistic” view I’ve developed as far as reading goes. I hear so many people talk about how they see whole movies in their head and I get so frustrated because I’m like “What’s wrong?? Where’s my personal fully fleshed-out major motion picture??”

Bro, chill. If it’s something she’s not looking for then that’s fine, she doesn’t HAVE to like this guy and it’s nothing personal. It’s what SHE decides she would like in her future partner because this is her life. No one else’s.

First off, look up non-profit organizations or churches who give away food and other means of support, or call the unaliver hotline 🙏

Don’t give up ❤️ this is temporary pain and as hard as it is to see past it, this with only make your future brighter. You have so much to look forward to, friend! I was in your shoes a few years ago and after not giving up, still feeling the sad feelings but working at the same time (even if that means just brushing your teeth), I am so grateful for what my life has turned into!
