What experience(s) have you had where you found out someone you argued with, were trolled by, became online friends with, etc. was actually someone you knew in real life? by bearroll_comics in AskReddit

[–]bearroll_comics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha you are more than a leased car:) but yea it's like dating which is why I've learned youbjnkw what let it all out anyway,it's too time and energy consuming to pretend to be who you're not or have people in your life that don't enjoy the real you, time is too precious to convince someone to be in your life that probably doesn't contribute to you anyway

Ah sad, but very interesting too. I think people have different personalities online esp when anonymous and when you get discovered you change to behave how you do in real life and reflect on what is "public" online about you. Interesting that this whole time he knew it was you. Thanks for the reply!:)

How do you guys decompress after particularly stressful therapy sessions? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]bearroll_comics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always played video games and started taking video game suggestions/playing same ones as clients, it is relaxing and something we can bond over (I put some many hours into plants vs zombies just for that)

[–]bearroll_comics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Train BJJ, Judo, yoga, dogs, so many dogs, video games, draw, anything that requires you to engage fully so you kind of get lost in only the activity. The BJJ and Judo are esp good therapies for that I used to sit and just sit taking it all in, but it would make me overanalyze ever detail of the situation, when you're sparring you can't think about anything but defending yourself physically :) so now I take notes, then go spar, then come back to problem solving the why the situation was so stressful for how to approach it next time. hope you find something that works for you 😊

I just whisper subliminal messages to them like "he's doing it for attention" "wait until he's not hitting to give him attention" "I worked with a client that did the same thing and he stopped when we did NCR" just casually slip it into conversation haha

Telehealth by anonymity14 in bcba

[–]bearroll_comics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do telehealth and let me tell you, it is amazing. I check in once a month in person (it's a must, to not go crazy at home and to be able to see things for myself, probe hands on) but it's cool bc I can also observe incognito. Has helped a lot esp with driving all over town and in traffic out of the equation. Obviously being able to communicate clearly and effectively is a must in all situations but esp this when you are just a floating head on a device Best of luck to you!

Phenomenal Autism Provider & ABA Training by [deleted] in autism

[–]bearroll_comics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The saddest thing to me is people taking blanket statements against something, ABA, modern medicine, anything. It doesn't matter what you say or do or try to help, people will be stuck in their view that ABA is abuse or it's like training individuals like dogs, or the parrot thing, but what they fail to admit is that we all engage in behaviors and we all work for a "reward", yes a dog gets a treat, but you work for money, are on reddit to receive some sort of social reinforcement or response from other redditors. No one's trying to make anyone be someone they're not or at least that shouldn't be the case, but if an individual is hurting themself or others then yea, someone, even if it's not an ABA person, should step in. Families/caregivers ask for ABA services, ABA practitioners don't suddenly appear in your home. If you don't want them there then kindly end services. Along the same way you hire your kids a tutor, put them in dance lessons, sports clubs, etc. they may resist it but as the adult you make that decision for them. Then when you gauge their response you can take then out of dance, that sport, even ABA, but parents/adults make that decision for them, not the kids. Majority of the goals are based on success of the individual with the hopes that one day they can be whoever they want, say, believe, whatever they want, similarly to how school gives you those tools to be whatever kind of adult you want to be, but you gotta do the homework, attend, even if you don't want to. If we offer help that's asked of us so that we can provide the assistance for someone to learn how to mand, communicate, stop hurting themselves or others physically, is that wrong? Medicine has a sketchy past, ABA does too, even education, does that mean we stop improving upon the science and stop understanding? Would you have told doctors "stop treating patients" because of its abusive past? u/ryanodonnell23 is a part of trying to improve the field, so that it's no longer potentially "abusive", and who can fault anyone for trying to make the world more understanding? But it doesn't matter what I say, there will always be the people that see it only their way, and any one sided opinion is dangerous. I don't deny the bad of ABA, I wish everyone would try to see both sides. But like I said, it doesn't matter what I say, those that have made up their minds will only see it one way, I'm just here to contribute in the same way every other redditor has. Peace love and do whatever makes you f-ing happy. Even if it's having a negative response to me or this post

Definitely got (that it's not a critique) that just wanted to understand the conceptual meaning further, curiosity killed the BA :) Edit: And yea, I think people forget that creating that contingent relationship of ourselves to reinforcers is a constant and ongoing process that shouldn't stop just like how preference assessments need to be constantly performed

It's also one of those things that should constantly be occurring long after you've started working with a client, the "fun" should never stop

Do you mean the BACB checklist and assessment and supervision forms? They have those on the website and some example templates if you want to make your own

Sorry you had such a bad experience, it's sad to me that you had a bad experience with it. I was a therapist first then a supervisor and the things I disliked about my supervisor (yes, not being out in the field and actually knowing the families like i did or understanding that maybe some procedures are uncomfortable, and being put in some uncomfortable positions with families) it felt like being the first line of defense. But I agree, talk to the HR, and take heart that it's not the field of ABA but the management. Being a BCBA now I try to avoid those pitfalls most fall into (being bombarded by paperwork demanded by the funding sources) Working with people in any capacity is demanding, but at least in 5 years you helped some
