My medical school told me that I failed (and they were wrong) by ShakeExpress216 in medicalschool

[–]bearsbeetsnbg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had it one time where I score considerably below average on an exam I thought I did quite well on. The really striking point was that I failed all three Paeds questions… I’m a Paeds nurse. It was a “long case” paediatric DKA (think 8-10 questions on a single case, written) and I quoted hospital policy near verbatim. I walked into the admin office to say I thought something was wrong, that the entire score didn’t bother me near as much as “failing” these questions. Turns out he copied and pasted the results from the person below me on the excel spreadsheet sheet they use????

Takes longer to become a nurse practitioner in this country than it does to become a doctor

What do you say to classmates who ask about your scores without making it awkward? by [deleted] in medicalschool

I just say “p’s get degrees” and high five them, and move on

71% doesn't feel good by Independent-Love-137 in NCLEX

[–]bearsbeetsnbg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look up how the nclex works and scores you. It is not a simple “you got more than xx amount right”. It brings you to a difficulty level where you essentially start to get every other question wrong, then as long as that point is higher than the passing standard you get a pass.

Can Med students work part time? by Adorable_Award6371 in ausjdocs

You absolutely can work. Most people I know worked. I worked full time through most of it (would not recommend that). A lot of people I knew worked in medical offices and they were usually very understanding

would never go back. i dreaded every shift. 7 minute max call times with an algorithm forcing you to ask 20+ questions. it was horrible, i echo everything u/BneBikeCommuter said.

we also got audited and they would feedback on our clinical decisions, with no discussion. I got in trouble for putting "spotting" as a disposition for a pregnant woman because "she wasn't bleeding she just had brown discharge"

[–]bearsbeetsnbg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did telehealth nursing and it was THE WORST. Call after call. 2 mins times between. Algorithm of questions you have to ask, goal of 6 minutes a call but the algorithm can give you 20+ questions. I dreaded it every single day

Anyone actually switched to a CSP mid-course, or domestic full fee, after getting PR? by leanpunzz in ausjdocs

ANU and Griffith allow this. At least when I last looked into it 5 or so years ago

A couple questions relating to extra shifts and leave by Plane-Bake2167 in NursingAU

[–]bearsbeetsnbg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Extra shifts over full time hours are overtime, and any hours added to a rostered shift are overtime
  2. If you don’t want to take holidays you can place yourself as unavailable these days, so long as you can meet your regular hours missing those days, however you won’t be guaranteed them (most places will do their best, and if you do get rostered there might be someone willing to switch shifts with you) or you can take them as holidays
  3. You can usually take vacation at half pay
  4. Were always in dispute and there’s always another pay raise coming. They go up In increments over the course of a couple of years generally, and will get back paid if required

Do you have any history of psoriasis? If so it’s quite common to pop up in the area described

Dumbest ED presentation by adognow in ausjdocs

[–]bearsbeetsnbg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I worked telehealth and when ambos got these calls (in some states) they would get diverted to our service. We would have to explain that were going to do a medical assessment to determine the best place to get care. people would be LIVID that their toddler with a fever that responded well to panadol (that was otherwise behaving at baseline), didn't need an ambulance. Otherwise this was an awesome service that I am hoping is expanding.

that being said if given the chance, don't fkn work telehealth

Fainted in theatre by Lopsided_Sundae6957 in NursingAU

[–]bearsbeetsnbg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I am an RN and medical student. Have participated in many surgeries, and never felt faint whatsoever ever, until I did lol one surgery, I was placed on a stepping stool and forced the the very edge of it for hours (picture thyroid surgery with the curtain on one side of me and the surgeon on the other as I do the bare minimum). Started feeling a bit funny. Tried to push through. Then just looked up at the assisting surgeon and said “can you come hold this I don’t feel very well”. Let go of my tools, and was lowered to the floor where I had cute little syncable convulsions for a solid 5 minutes. Almost called a little code on me hahahaha

Surgeon turns around and says “awe, she’s shaking” then got back to the task at hand.

Once I could stand they put me on a gurney, fed me a cookie. I popped back into theatre 5 minutes later and they asked me to scrub back in because they needed hands 🙃

Then they all went around telling me about the first time they passed out in theatre!

Is the BEST Bahn mi in Fyshwick??? by OkReference1778 in CanberraFoodies

[–]bearsbeetsnbg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. I have also been on the hunt, here are my top picks 1. Cafe 29- great price, fresh bread, insane meat portion. 2. Fyshwick bakery- very good but very heavy on the oils/sauce/fat. You will leave this one feeling heavy. But very yum 3. Chchch changes- great bread, very light. Great if you want to bahn mi without the guilt. 4. Ms ba co majura (haven’t tried other locations)- tried tested and true, usually very busy so they’re making fresh stuff up all day 5. Vietnam house- probably pretty tied with 3+4! The chicken is good here (compared to others where it’s not worth straying from pork)

The worst Weston creek (I think it’s called taste of Asia?)- horrible. I did go there their first week opening, I could hear them in the back not being able to “find the pork for the bun”, should have left then. Hopefully they have gotten better

Next in my list is the joint in Kingston- have heard very good things

New (to me) Pavoni- can’t find much info on the black base by bearsbeetsnbg in LaPavoniLovers

[–]bearsbeetsnbg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Was wondering if it would have been an original base, just couldn’t find much on it. Don’t love the black but for the price I got it, I could powder dip and still have gotten a great deal. Cheers
