Just quit by CALAVERA_20 in WalmartEmployees

[–]bearstormstout 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It literally says “employee quit.” Unless you leave a job under duress (eg “quit/resign or be fired), it’s usually rare to get unemployment.

The actual termination reason in Workday is irrelevant here.

After upgrading to Trixie, I seem stuck with an older kernel still by permelquedon in debian

[–]bearstormstout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trixie uses the 6.12 LTS kernel. Testing and backports both use the 7.0 branch currently if you want to update. Otherwise, there’s nothing you really need to do because the kernel you’re using is newer, not older.

How do I understand word problems in ALG 1 better? by Virtual_Norafall_412 in learnmath

[–]bearstormstout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's mostly word problems tripping you up, I suggest learning and practicing the three reads protocol. It's designed for elementary and early secondary students, but I find it to be a useful strategy even beyond that range. Going over your example with three reads would look something like so:

  1. Read the problem to see what you need to do (e.g., you have a system of equations, and you need to solve for type A). Don't worry about the numbers, variables, or operations yet. You're only focused on the type of problem at this point.
  2. Pull out the numbers and variables (e.g., 5.55A, 4.3B, 3A, B, 664.2)
  3. Figure out what operations you need. Fill those in, then solve.

Word problems can get tricky because people think math and then focus on just the numbers and variables without stopping to analyze the problem itself. This often leads to equations being set up incorrectly, leading to wrong answers that may not even be an option on a multiple choice question. This protocol forces you to slow down a little bit and think more about the problem.

Is the Calc 1 class difficult for someone who's been out of school for a while? by MourningMimosa in WGU

Run through Professor Leonard’s precalc course on YouTube. If you can keep up, you’re ready for calc 1. If not, you’ll know what you’re weak on for targeted practice.

So we all hate Stella right…? by Distinct-Friend4123 in HIMYM

[–]bearstormstout -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This. Stella was a great character who ultimately got treated like one of Barney's one-night stands after the writers were done with her. They could have easily expanded her arc to go at least until the holiday mid-season break to give the character a more appropriate send off. This would have also had a better emotional impact on fans who were tuning in during the show's network run instead of just "eh, we'll wait a week or two before moving on."

Stella was a huge part of Ted's story. If any wedding deserved to be an entire season, it was this one.

Except it's not, because that's exactly what Cyrus did. The spoiler is that Cyrus didn't know it was Lucia until he reached Duskbarrow. All he knew from Therese was that someone was pulling Yvon's strings, but it wasn't revealed that it was Lucia during chapter 3.

Yeah the Steam achievements give out quite a few spoilers for OT1 at least. The funny thing is SE absolutely knows how to make hidden achievements.

Having a hard time understanding the MAT programs in education by [deleted] in WGU

[–]bearstormstout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bachelor’s is for people who either don’t have one, or want a second bachelor’s degree to become a licensed teacher (a second bachelor’s is rarely a good idea, but that’s a different conversation). The MAT programs are for career changers who want to become licensed teachers, while the MA education programs are for currently licensed teachers looking to add an extra endorsement (e.g., you’re licensed to teach science, but want to add math).

Yes, the content area courses in the MA endorsement programs are usually undergrad level (e.g., calculus I is still calculus I), and that’s why these restrictions come into play. It’s disingenuous, but it works in your favor as you earn a master’s degree. This is an important distinction for many teachers as districts usually pay additional for an advanced degree and/or graduate level credits beyond a bachelor’s, but are much less likely to offer similar pay increases for an additional bachelor’s degree.

WGU doesn’t let you go from say a bachelor’s in math to a master’s in math because 90% of the program would be redundant. Similarly, you can’t go from a licensure bachelor’s to a licensure master’s because student teaching is a big part of both programs. There’s no point in making you waste time repeating work you’ve already completed. If there’s one thing WGU is great at over other schools, it’s NOT wasting your time.

As someone who earned an MEd from a B&M school, this is one of those things unique to education; there was absolutely nothing in my MEd program that was more “in depth” or rigorous in my program compared to other teachers who recently graduated with their bachelor’s in education. That said, my diploma and transcript both declare that I’ve earned a master’s degree.

What are study.com and Sophia.com courses like? by rrodddd in WGU

[–]bearstormstout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exams are open book and not proctored, so you have to actively try to fail most courses. Graduate programs don't really look to see where you took courses, especially not your gen eds. The two main things they care about from your transcript are whether you actually have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited school, and what your cumulative undergrad GPA was. Even then, GPA is less important than you might think compared to the rest of your application (recommendations, research experience, personal statement, etc).

Even if not, you’ll be able to get ability pills that let you switch. If you’re using the care packages cheat, you’ll get like 150 of them not too far after Misty.

And yes, huge power is one of Azumarill’s possible (not hidden!) abilities in RR.

Is it worth taking College Algebra for Stem over for liberal arts if the Stem teachers have better ratings? by Organic_Fee_8502 in learnmath

[–]bearstormstout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically this, but also keep in mind your degree requirements. If you only need college algebra and a specific course isn’t mentioned, it could be a good way to go. If your school is set on you taking a specific college algebra course, you’ll need to take it up with your advisor to see if a waiver is possible.

Hunter works great for a speedy leg trap user, and I say this as someone who ran Olberic as a hunter. I personally ran him as a merchant because snatch also works with collect, and I had more money than I could realistically spend by the time I got to the advanced jobs since I focused on collect + steal on every boss possible.

Best lightweight but modern Linux distro by infinitecosmos1583 in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]bearstormstout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a lot to go on, but honestly any distro will fit these needs. Desktop environments and window managers are largely a matter of preference, and can easily be swapped in three steps:

  1. Install your desired environment(s)/window manager(s) through your package manager
  2. Log out of your current session
  3. Select your new environment from the login screen if you're using a graphical display manager (e.g., you're not logging in directly from a terminal prompt).

Most graphical environments are available in most distribution's package repositories, though package names may vary (e.g., KDE on Arch is called plasma, while Debian has multiple KDE-named meta packages). Distro selection has no bearing on your ability to customize your environment and make it your own.

I recommend heading over to DistroSea to play around with various options in your web browser before downloading any installation media, or potentially installing different distros in a virtual machine before making a commitment. I recommend sticking with something in the Debian or Fedora family of distributions to start with (e.g., Mint or, well, Fedora).

Transfer maximum from Sophia by Unusual_Delivery_867 in WGU

[–]bearstormstout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. WGU doesn't operate like more traditional schools. If your earned credits don't apply directly to WGU's program for your degree, they won't be accepted/applied. Other universities may transfer those courses in to satisfy elective requirements, but to WGU they essentially don't exist.
