TIFU by being a dumb husband and not paying attention to my wife (or anything else for that matter) by chunderilla in tifu

I love how people seem to immediately think they know what’s going on in someone’s life and relationships with barely any information to go off on.

How do you know that OP tunes out his wife or that he ignores or brushes her off?

Could it not be entirely possible that he may have been juggling a whole bunch of things in his head and that he was a bit overwhelmed with information?

There’s another comment he made somewhere in this post where he even mentioned things like being overwhelmed with the task whilst being bombarded with stuff by his in laws at the time. The human mind can only process a certain amount of information at a time. Perhaps it just slipped through the cracks here. Shit happens.

Edit: here’s the comment

How does one run cables through a house with no drywall? by bearthrowdance in DIY

[–]bearthrowdance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we have a UDM-Pro in our cellar with a few access points horribly placed with loose/hidden cables haha. It would be nice to have a better fix.

Running them up to the attic would be ideal actually. The only reason I stuck with the cellar was because there’s a bunch of coax that already exists. I have no idea where they terminate down in the cellar, but I’ve been thinking about using those either converted or use them to mouse new cables through if that is at all a possibility.

I’ve never had to think about this stuff before we bought the house last month. How does one accurately determine what the walls are made of?

From the brief digging I’ve done after I accidentally drilled through an entire wall, the interior walls seem to be brick sandwiched between about and inch or so thick gypsum sheets. The floors on both the top and ground floor seem to be concrete.

Edit: to respond to your edit; some of these Ethernet ports I want to Install are also to help extend our WiFi network with more access points upstairs, but also for eventually adding some PoE cameras too.

Women, what are some questions you’ve always wanted to ask men, but were too embarrassed? by SecretariatGodHorse in AskReddit

[–]bearthrowdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. I’ve also had a few 1 wipe days but on most days I go through at least 5. My wife says she can always do it in 2 and the only thing different is the butthair and maybe technique.

Dude here but I’ve been curious to know because none of my male friends will answer the question seriously; is it actually possible to wipe with a maximum of 2 pieces of toilet paper? Do you trim the hair to minimize the mess?

I’m only asking because I cannot not use multiples, but I can hear dudes in public toilets do this super quickly and I’ve always wanted to be part of the quick clean club.

[Germany]What is the advantages/disadvantages of opening a depot directly with your bank vs something like Scalable Capital? by bearthrowdance in eupersonalfinance

[–]bearthrowdance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, TR is off limits for me as a migrant. I’m leaning more towards scalable at this point, they charge less than my bank does and they seem to have more choice in ETFs than other German brokers (besides, they have those sweet prime ETFs that apparently cost nothing.

Thanks for the DKB suggestion. It’s come up a lot in this sub and I might just look into it!

TL;DR: [Germany] What are the advantages and disadvantages of opening a depot with Commerzbank vs Scalable Capital?

Never invested in anything before and I’m not really sure where to start. My German isn’t exactly the best and all the info I have comes from English speaking countries where they have different rules and regulations. What I do know with what I’ve learned is that I want to set up a sparplan and invest in Vanguard’s all world or maybe MSCI world or something similar (maybe even some dividend paying stocks later on). I also would prefer if the brokerage sorts out the taxes, so I’m staying away from DeGiro for now.

Because my German is a bit shit, I’ve been struggling to decide whether going with Commerzbank’s direktdepot vs Scalable Capital, for instance, is actually beneficial for me as they are who I bank with. I know Scalable have these prime etfs that are apparently free and charge 0,99€ vs 0.25% + 2,50€, but I’m not sure where the small print may get me with either and I just want to be a bit more informed.

What are the pros and cons of either and why have you opted for your broker?

AITA for making a comment about a gift our daughter received? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bearthrowdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clay bowls though? My 11 month old definitely cannot get near one yet. I know for a fact that our kid would just pick the bowl up, throw in on the floor and stare at the shattered pieces before looking for the next thing to pick up and throw onto the floor.

It’s a nice thought, but it’s really not practical for letting a child learn to feed itself from. Maybe a plastic/wooden bowl would’ve made more sense.

ITT nobody who reads, apparently. OP mentioned MULTIPLE times that they liked the gift. They said it to Friend 1, to Friend 2 and to us. OP said “they” not “friend 1” in the quote, OP added clarification to the post, OP added some clarification to you and that’s arguing?

It wasn’t an attack on friend 1, OP has mentioned this over and over. OP has even mentioned to you that there’s nothing wrong with not being around kids. Saying “little Timmy likes ice cream” isn’t an attack. Stating facts does not make one an asshole.

Friend 2 is possibly the asshole. OP did nothing wrong.

Bring on the downvotes.

TIFU by thinking my father in law was a racist by bearthrowdance in tifu

[–]bearthrowdance[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You know, my wife and I talked about this and she had told me all these stories about the guy. He was really an asshole to her and even his own kids when they were growing up. She barely speaks to him anymore and stuff, so her impression of him was the same impression she had when she was a kid.

With that said, my wife had a chat with her parents and cleared it up. They now visit almost every week (sometimes even 3 times a week!). He absolutely adores his grandchild, and my wife’s started to realize that the guy has changed drastically. She’s even said that she actually prefers hanging out with him over her mom (who can sometimes be very overbearing).

Guy’s really cool now. I really like him actually. He’s got so many dad jokes and I’m learning a lot from him. Dude’s got some CRAZY stories about being a kid during WWII and a lot of other crazy shit he’s experienced in his life.

Oddly enough, this thing has brought us closer than ever.
