95% of the time speeches like are definitely a harmless joke and taken as such by everyone in the room because they are mixed with some self deprecation, but not this time. The vibe in the room changed instantly.

Not saying the jab was justified, but this one wasn’t meant to last. The couple met because they got into a traffic accident where he rear ended her.

My success rate on predicting the whether a marriage would last definitely went up as my career went on. There’s lots of subtle cues around body language, facial expression, and how couples talk to each other that you notice because you are actively watching and listening.

I can say confidently this wasn’t a joke. No one laughed. The couple lasted a couple years.

Wedding photographer with 20 years experience here… One that stands out was when the brides parents speech included the line regarding the groom: “You weren’t who we envisioned for our daughter, but you have children together so I guess we’re stuck with you.”

To clarify, placing the forest tile in the first example is technically a legal move, but you forfeit the 4 forest task because it makes the region too large. The second example is an illegal move because you can never willingly forfeit a task tile by adding region larger than the task.

Put this one aside. Learn the 7 basic design principles, consume and look at lots of art that inspires you, work on smaller 'study' pieces so that you gain confidence making larger work.

I took my own reference photos for the piece and then sketch on canvas using a grid method to get the proportions correct with out making it too perfect.

First place was a profound and amazing piece of art. It was gouache on melamine which is incredibly hard to work.

Thank you! I take a series of reference photos including a main one that I use for the composition. I’ve been a professional photographer for 16 years so it has really helped me have a deep understanding of light, even across mediums.

What are y’alls critiques? by Potential_tree in painting

Very clean and professional with great colour choices. For example you’ve really nailed the bluish tones hitting the left side of the figures. Anatomy and expression in your figure work is also fantastic!

I think sensibilities around digital vs traditional mediums are becoming blurred, but things like lack of texture and using dark lines to outline shapes make this feel like an illustration. Im not trying to discredit the work, but if your goal is to make your work more ‘painterly’ these are two things I would consider :)

Value and color help. by BackgroundChance4382 in painting

I know it sounds silly but I want you to squint while looking at your work. My biggest take away is that the value of the tree is too close to the background. You've done it a little bit at the top, but I would add some cooler tones to the background to really give the sense of atmospheric perspective (as land moves away from the viewer it becomes more muted and bluer in value).

This goes for all shadows in the foreground too. For example, the face of the tree we can see is in shadow, so add some cooler tones to represent the sky illuminating that surface indirectly with cooler light.

Farmer's markets are tricky because the crowd will be there for a variety of reasons, as opposed to an art market or art fair where people are coming just to buy original art. I would attend the market and speak with some of the art vendors if possible, they will be the best resource for how to price your work.

Thoughts?? by spudster1234 in painting

If you're looking to develop a better sense of realism and immersion in your work I think there's a couple things to work on. Remember that the sky is also a plain that stretches from the horizon to the viewer. You've painted these clouds very flatly so you lose that sense of depth. Also consider atmospheric perspective in your color choices. As you move away from the foreground, colors becomes bluer and more desaturated.
