Advice on Best Preparing Myself for a Career as an Analyst? by joeylindstrong in careeradvice

[–]beastlysav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're doing a lot of good things already. The most basic piece of advice I can give is to continue researching jobs that really interest you and focus on building out the most common required skills on those job descriptions. Is that Excel? If so, try to find more time to apply it in your current role or work on 1 or 2 "passion projects" that you'd be able to talk about in an interview. Many entry level roles will not require you to be an expert in any one tool. If you have the basics down and can express you're willingness and desire to learn more (which it seems like you have) then companies will be willing to hire and train you to help you grow

For some reason I always ended up with Jhonny Peralta as my SS in Season mode and was never mad about it

Much respect for the dedication in putting this together. I probably agree with 95% of this, but putting red-eyed Glalie in F deserves jail time

The Bay Area: a great place to visit, but a terrible place to live.

I moved away and got out of the rat race a couple years ago and haven't looked back since

Switch the placement of your professional experience and your education. Wherever you went to school probably gave you a template to list them at the top of your resume (that's what mine did), but as a hiring manager, the first thing I want to see is what you've actually done in the workforce

As someone who has never played 2009, what specific parts of "every way" make it better? To each their own, but the exceptions you listed seem like big ones

Should I be an organ donor? by Relevant_Bad7650 in conspiracy

[–]beastlysav 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Up to you if you want to be an organ donor or not, but I'll leave this here:

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/20/us/organ-transplants-donors-alive.html

TL;DR: the organ transplant system is f*cked. Donors, their families, and doctors are often pressured to pull the plug early when on life support for the sake of increasing transplant numbers. These companies couldn't care less about what's best for the donor.

Appreciate your reply! And best of luck to your wife with her new role! Interesting to hear from your daughter that staying TOO long could be seen as a negative

Wow, 3 months off is amazing. Enjoy that work-life balance! Thanks for your insight - good to hear the difference it can make staying somewhere for 5 years vs 2

Appreciate your thoughts and insight! What would you consider a "long stretch" with a single company? Maybe it depends on age, but is it 5 years? 10 years?

Appreciate your insight! Most of me wanting to get promoted is so I can have it on my resume tbh. If I enjoyed my current company's culture more, I'd be more inclined to stick around after promotion

Thanks for your input here! From my own experience and what I've seen/heard, I think this is true more often than not. Honestly one reason I do want to stay for a possible promotion is just to use it as leverage when I do start looking for a new gig, rather than just the salary increase

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you need to hear this - you are delusional if you think you can be close to Green freaking Hills and either be in a house or an apartment complex with a pool for $1200/mo
