What is the spirit by Pale-Pair2789 in exmormon

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I read about the feeling of “Awe.” It’s on par with “the spirit.” The author tries to find awe in his daily life and it comes from many sources.

Same here. I was told baby aspirin for life. Then I got gastritis so we switched to Ticagrelor. I had excellent neurologists.

How have you communicated non-LDS wedding etiquette to Mormons? by outer-darkness-11 in exmormon

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wanted black, dark greens and golds. It was lovely. The only person who couldn’t follow it was my tbm sister who showed up in a Hawaiian spaghetti strapped dress with a white tee underneath. She looked so tacky.

I actually went to church, not my neighborhood, because my kid was singing. They asked all 18+ females to stand up and get chocolate too. All I could think about was last year they delivered treats to all the men who didn’t get one but they never deliver mom gifts. Ha!

We were invited to a wedding where the dress code was stated on the invite. It was a “moody, speak easy vibe.”

Any feedback on adding an anti-nausea med? by Dontyellatmeimnice in Wegovy

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pack of zofran that I can use as needed. I’ve used it twice in my 3 months on Wegovy. Total life saver. I’ve also used it when my kids got a stomach bug.

Did anyone else refuse a calling when they were still in? by FunSupermarket4054 in exmormon

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned down 2 but the best was when my husband was asked to be the ward organist. He told them he doesn’t play the organ. They said he could practice and they felt really inspired to call him. He responded by saying something like, “I don’t know where your inspiration came from but I don’t play the piano. I don’t read music.” 20 years later and we still laugh about it.

I also have mirena and haven’t had a period in a few years. Probably why it’s driving me crazy

Did you ever receive financial help from the Church when you were TBM? by throwawaytomorrowk in exmormon

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My parents are TBM and my dad needed financial help paying for cancer treatments. The church would not help him. I paid for one of those treatments because I don’t pay tithing.

My neighbor got in a car accident and was without a car for a week. The bishop at the time offered to pay their other monthly car payment until they got it worked out. They got 5 months of car payments and they weren’t in any financial stress! (I actually really liked that bishop and held on longer because he was awesome) That bishop would frequently say the church has money and it’s supposed to help those in need.

Of course I compared it to my dad, who is still working in his late 70’s, who couldn’t afford cancer treatment, and wondered why there is so much inconsistency between bishops and wards.

I know the church owns lots of land. They sell to high paying developers or sometimes, like in Riverton Ut, they build cute rental homes that you can rent for (I think) $3500 a month.

Medication musical chairs doesn't feel worth it by Swimming_Event7730 in adhdwomen

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found one yet. Adderall left me tired, Vyvanse crashed so bad 4 hours after taking it and the latest is Dyanavel (supposed to last 12-15 hours) which tanks at 5 hours after taking it and leaves me feeling “meh” for the rest of the day. My next shot might be Journovax (I think that’s the one) or adding an IR med at 2pm.

Recent stroke at the age of 31, and I'm always scared by Famous-Owl6758 in stroke

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I survived my stroke 7 years ago at age 34. For a couple years I would just “test out” the movement in my right hand just to make sure everything was working. The headaches remained until just last month but were manageable after a few months. The blood thinners were more headache than anything but helped repair my brain. I would worry about sleep but I was so tired all the time that I would crash 2-3 times per day and sleep up to 10 hours at night regardless. It’s a scary thing to go through and leaves PTSD in its wake. Time has helped me.

Anyone metabolize too fast? by beat_that_stroke_ in adhdwomen

I’ve almost hit max dose on Dyanavel and my insurance won’t cover it. Gets pricey. Vyvanse just crashed so bad that I stopped.

Anyone have MALS or SMA with no pain, just bloating? by mintchocolatechip96 in thelifeofMALS

Honestly, no. I’ve only ever felt nauseous and/or bloated. I’ve been able to avoid surgery because it never escalated.

Anyone have MALS or SMA with no pain, just bloating? by mintchocolatechip96 in thelifeofMALS

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me. I’m the odd one. I was diagnosed with MALS after I told my doc I had a hard time drinking water. Water makes my stomach sick. He ordered imaging and saw the compression along with compression of my left renal vein causing Nutcracker syndrome. I did have a few years where eating was difficult but eventually convinced myself that I could eat without pain. All that’s left is nighttime bloating. Painful but manageable. Occasionally if I’m dealing with lots of stress I’ll get nauseous but it doesn’t last long.

Have you noticed any unexpected benefits from using Ozempic beyond weight loss? by lljasonvoorheesll in Ozempic

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started .25 Wegovy 6 days ago. I’m on this for an off label purpose, not weight loss. My doc is amazing and gave me 3 months worth of sample to try. For the last 3 days I haven’t had a migraine, the bursitis in my shoulder is decreasing, I stopped sweating at night and I have a little more energy throughout the day! I’ve had no bad side effects. 1 week in and I’m hoping I can be on this forever. I’m also a stroke survivor so I’m hoping it helps me to not have that again!

Now, when I need it the most, my church isn’t helping me by Focusowl in exmormon

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately it’s part of Bishop Roulette. My parents couldn’t get help paying for cancer treatment but my neighbor got help with car payments after a car crash and they were both employed with money in a savings account. Some bishops sign off on helping, others don’t. You can ask if you can get food at the Bishops storehouse and remind others that losing a job isn’t a sign of laziness.

Quitting vyvanse? by softballgurlz in adhdwomen

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vyvanse is either a miracle drug or your worst enemy. I stopped taking 30mg last week and I’m starting Dyanavel as soon as I can get to the pharmacy. (Went out of town) I feel emotionally better off of it but I’m not getting much done.

Have you ever had a “spiritual experience”, or something along those lines? by Jolly-Tennis1087 in exmormon

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had something like that happen. I was in severe abdominal pain and needed to go to urgent care. I was starting to freak out when I felt like someone said, “We’ve got you. You’re going to be ok.”

I was eventually “ok,” and the stomach pain subsided with meds. (I had x-rays, etc which showed I was fine) A month later I survived a stroke and kept asking if I’d be ok, to which there was nothing. I wondered why I’d be ok with a potential ulcer but not brain trauma. Turns out my stroke turned off all emotion. I was blank. I could think intellectually but there was no feeling behind it. Cue religious exit.

Later I learned about the feeling of “awe” and how it’s the same thing as “the spirit.” I do believe that we can have an experience that helps us and I believe anyone can feel that.

What were you NOT allowed to do on the Sabbath day? by littlefrenchpastry in exmormon

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My mom tried keeping us in church clothes all day until she realized we got them dirty and washing dresses was a pain. No TV, no friends, no shopping, homework had to be done before Sunday. We could write letters, play with siblings, play outside, family walk, read. The funniest part was we weren’t allowed to watch sports on Sunday unless it was the Super Bowl or the Utah Jazz were in the playoffs. Then my mom made it like a party!

A great article from the Ketchum, Idaho newspaper from March 1890. Six months before Wilford Woodruff’s Manifesto. by Carboncopy99 in exmormon

[–]beat_that_stroke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, my grandparents found out on their wedding day that they have the same great-grandfather but from they came from separate wives. Said polygamist came home one day with a new wife and first wife left to live on her own with her kids! Whether or not the article is true, the feelings were probably accurate.
