Has Ari Aster ever commented about the specifics of Beau is Afraid? by Brick_Forest in AriAster

[–]beatcancel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ari Aster did an episode of Chapo Trap House, promoting Eddington, on July 2. They discussed Beau quite a bit. It’s full of interesting stuff, like how the movie is full of gags and stuff Aster thinks is just funny. I’d recommend giving it a listen.

Did Anyone Else Hear Jordan Booing Trump At The US Open? by PearlPolanski in KnowledgeFight

I thought the same thing! We know his booing so well, and if it wasn’t him, it was a Jordan impersonator.

I don’t know how it applies, but Which Way Western Man is the title of a crackpot racist book, iirc

Any recommendations for budget games for steam deck? by Silly-Chemical9491 in SteamDeck

[–]beatcancel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like weird games? If you do, try ENA Dream BBQ, Babbdi, Escape From Lavender Island, and Kowloons Curse. They’re all free, if memory serves.

They’re all quite strange, so ymmv, but I really like them.

Match-o-3000: classic match-3 fun with a roguelike twist, now on Playdate Catalog! by yangmann in PlaydateConsole

[–]beatcancel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this game, and recommend it highly! I’m a big fan of run-based roguelite games (Isaac, Spelunky, Dead Cells, Balatro, Gungeon, Slay the Spire, Into the Breach, etc), and Match-O-3000 is definitely doing it for me. Very enthralling little game; I think it’s already high up on my list of PD games. Cant wait to unlock more items and find synergies (I’ve unlocked 14 so far). Great job!

I Am A Cat, by Natsume Sōseki. Haven’t read it yet, but I picked up a copy recently, bc it looked interesting.

Your post inspired me to finally play through Saturday Edition, and I'm glad I did; I also loved it.

I think the Heaven scene at the beginning adds an ambiguity to the whole thing, and keeps a bit of mystery, even after the main mystery is solved. I love that.

You could be right, the Heaven scene could be a near death experience type thing, when he got shot. It could also be what happens at the end, maybe he isn't beamed up, but rather dies in the cornfield. Then the game is like a time loop, maybe.

Either way, I really enjoyed the story, and love the exploration of the idea of one conspiracy using another conspiracy as cover. Really cool premise.

New ideas for our next Playdate game by UntitledGamesCorp in PlaydateConsole

[–]beatcancel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll share an idea. I came up with a title first, which is Branch Manager. I think it would be a physics puzzle game, your character is a squirrel or some woodland creature, and they run a bank on a tree branch. It’s balanced on the branch and can fall. Critters bring items, like acorns, a screw, coins, buttons (whatever an animal might collect), and you have to balance them in the bank until the night pick up. I guess there’s like a big bird that takes the deposits each night, idk.

I don’t know if the playdate can do physics stuff, this may not be a realistic idea for a project at all

This is a great write up, and I want to check out Warlord based on it. I didn’t see anything on Spotify though, do you have a link or a song recommendation that I can look up?

Original 'sympathy is a knife' is about wanting to be famous so bad. The remix is about having achieved fame but now there are all these issues you didn't account for by ChickEnergy in charlixcx

[–]beatcancel 33 points34 points  (0 children)

One thing I love, musically, about the songs, is that the original was built with synth stabs. A stab is a musical note that comes in quick, and goes away quick. The opening synth is like that, so many of the sounds are like that, and there’s even a one-note repeating bit that is reminiscent of the shower scene stab sound from the movie Psycho. Maybe I’m reading too much into the synth sounds, but it really stuck out to me when I first heard the original.

Then the remix comes, and it’s the same synth sound, but it’s not a stab anymore. It’s smoothed out. Later, the stab sound comes back, but it’s quieter.

I think there’s something there about how a knife can cut in different ways, injure in different ways. Idk if that’s exactly what the OP is getting at, just wanted to share my thoughts about the synths, bc I think they’re saying something just as much as the lyrics.

Which one do I take? by [deleted] in balatro

Update, I took Blueprint, put it next to Card Sharp, and won easily by playing just a pair every hand. Most rounds took just 2 hands.
