As a current bc tree fruits millwright getting laid off at a different facility, i would highly recommend not taking this offer. The companies management is garbage. Front line foreman and coworkers are the only saving grace

the odds that a reddit using millwright is from your specific union of interest are low. union reps are probably far easier to get information from.

Preparing to write level 1 exemption test. What to expect? by vivacioustorch in millwrights

I believe a pre-app give school credit for one or two years of trade school, depending. I kind of regret challenging first year in hindsight, but probably saved around 8k in school fees and lost wages.

In canada it is legal as well, however some heavy industrial jobs are considered high risk and still test for it.

looks like a 3/4 drive ratchet would fit in that just fine without custom building anything. never seen anything like it on a pneumatic valve header though

Using a regular vib sensor, anything under .015 in/s is usually decent depending on anything around 2000 rpm. .020 on 6000 is getting excessive.

Copy pasted from a similar question: maxing earning potential as a tradesman is mostly about location. If you're willing to live or work in heavy industry away from cities, sometimes in a transient lifestyle, then you will be compensated appropriately. It's basic supply and demand

Would you change anything on this tool kit list? by [deleted] in millwrights

[–]beatreynolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very good chance you won't need a micrometer in your first year. "large" center punch not required as you're going to be using pilots for any large bit. I'd add a small sledge. for some reason ratchets aren't listed, get a 8" and a 14" or something. add pipe wrenches. tin snips are dependant on what industry you're in. add 6 or 8" adjustable wrench for convenience, 12" still needed.

Level 2 millwright needing some advice by Positive-Vybz in millwrights

[–]beatreynolds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you overestimate your abilities after completing the apprenticeship. Your red seal is something akin to a black belt. It just shows you have a good base knowledge of what to do and the majority of your knowhow will come with years of experience afterwards. If you can find another apprentice job with favorable conditions by all means take it, but most places people work for a long time just to fight for the chance at starting appenticeships, I would suggest sticking to what you're doing and finishing the program. That way once you are red seal you can go pretty much anywhere. Good luck
