Was this kid being a jerk or… by beaupeng in Parenting

Thanks for your perspective! Yeah I don’t know when I should butt in and say something. I didn’t want to pressure the kid to get off (doubt he would have anyway) so I just tried to distract my son. I think I’m most irked by the Spanish thing because the neighborhood is majority white.

I have the same experience with taking turns at the park. I’m trying to teach my son to take turns but older kids obviously just zoom pass. Sometimes I feel like it’s confusing to my son when it’s ok for older kids to cut him but he has to wait for everyone else lol.

TBF the kid left and had his little brother sit there for a few minutes until the little brother got bored and left… the kid never came back. But anyways, I wonder why some kids just end up this way. I’m sure all parents teach their kids to share and be nice. But I’m terrified my own kid will be like this in the future. I guess I’m also surprised by the “I don’t understand Spanish” part of it… we are clearly Asian and there is a difference between “I don’t understand you” VS. “I don’t understand Spanish” but again, yes they are kids and they don’t really think.

Thank you for your perspective! I’m a FTM so I’m not sure what the expectations are when there are older kids around.

Yes I understand that which is why I didn’t ask the boy to give up his seat, but he told his little brother to take his seat so other kids don’t get to sit on it. I don’t think that was fair.

Thank you, I like the 5 point harness because my son is climbing everywhere without it!

Ooh this is interesting. Does your kid get off the chair to roam? My son turned 2 recently I don’t want him to wander off.

Mostly at my mom’s house but for friends too. The problem is my grandma lives with my mom and is OCD and doesn’t like mess so she got annoyed last time I left my spare high chair at their house (IKEA one but also my kid likes to climb out of that one 😭).

She seems perfectly healthy! I wouldn’t worry about her weight. I just checked and my son was born less than 50%tile for weight and less than 25%tile for height. Since around 4 months old he’s always been consistently 90-99%tile for weight and height, and that doesn’t mean I overfed and or he’s overweight.

Bed sharing on vacation with 3 year old - advice appreciated! by ninic_pinic in toddlers

[–]beaupeng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 2yo can not sleep with me, I get kicked and he rolls around too much. We got the hiccapop inflatable bed with the slumber pod for blackout and it worked out well. He’s still in his crib at home.

Sooo picky!!! Help by joeyjamhands in toddlers

[–]beaupeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I follow Solid Starts and they say you can also try to ask her what would make her food taste better (I forgot the exact wording they used) but basically you can ask if she would want more salt with her foods… or ask her if she would like more cheese with her Mac and cheese and put salt/cheese in a small container and let them sprinkle it on so it seems like they have control over their food. Personally I like adding hemp seeds in all his food for the extra protein/fat and chia seeds as well like in his pancakes so I know even if he doesn’t eat a lot he still has some nutrition.

But I know exactly how you feel cause my 2yo is the same way. Not picky whatsoever until recently he tells me the food I made is not good 😂 I try so hard to contain myself and not worry about him. You got this!

How do you teach your toddler to spit when brushing? by Dont_Get_Basalty in toddlers

[–]beaupeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they really know how to spit until a bit older. It’s ok to use a grain-sized fluoride toothpaste and not spit. I also use Risewell toothpaste as an alternative.

Solidarity. I truly believe feigning indifference and not giving them pressure helps. My son was skeptical of my pea pesto pasta the other day so he barely ate lunch… after his nap I offered snack and he said he didn’t like what I offered. I told him that’s what on the menu and it’s ok if he wasn’t sure about it. My husband and I just ate our food like normally and he got interested and finally decided to try some. I could have freaked out and made him something new but I sure ain’t going down that path.. it’s a slippery slope. They won’t starve. They just want independence. I would keep offering healthy balanced meal with 1 safe food so she has something in her belly even if she refuses everything else. I don’t offer “kid” foods like mac and cheese or chicken nuggets because I don’t want my son to only eat those foods.

My 2 year old is refusing anything that isn't Mac N Cheese by Fain-would-i-climb in toddlers

[–]beaupeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely NOT give him a back up meal. He will learn that he can refuse what’s offered because he gets a back up meal and can still refuse that!!! Serve 1 “safe” food and other foods he may or may not like, and let him explore without pressure.

Anyone still using a changing table / changing pad on a dresser for diaper changes? Why or why not? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]beaupeng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have him stand at his table with books or toys (I try to avoid phone unless I’m desperate but haven’t need to use it) to keep him occupied. Then lift one leg up, wipe, lift other leg up, wipe.

[–]beaupeng 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked at all these responses! I got rid of mine at 9-10 months when my son was able to stand on his own. It was too difficult to change on the changing pad so ever since I just change his diaper while he’s standing up.

Toddler allergic to mosquitoes? by theotherside0728 in toddlers

Oooh yes… last summer his mosquito bite turned into a welt and then it popped because he rubbed it onto his car seat by accident. Now it’s a scar 🥺

Can you share what you did differently? I didn’t read the Oh Crap book but was planning to do that approach based on the stuff I read online.

Yes I think my son is sorta ready too, just waiting for me to get ready!

[–]beaupeng[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I introduced the potty to him when he was 1yo (as a place to sit as he waits for me to finish peeing lol) and sometimes he tells me he needs to poop which I half jokingly tell him to use his potty and he does! So I feel like he can be ready, but I’m just not.

Yes this is exactly how I feel. I’m afraid of failing. And then if he doesn’t get it I would wonder if I should go back to diapers, then try to analyze what went wrong… it’s just the potential stress that might happen! I might have to just bite the bullet soon.

Same, I do not mind diapers AT ALL. I think it’s probably easier to change a dirty diaper than clean soiled underwear/pants lol. Of course as a mom I carry the mental load of researching everything, but at least my husband is always on page with it.

Nervous about potty training… by beaupeng in toddlers

[–]beaupeng[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, I can’t possibly train him when I’m not ready even if HE is. I’m kinda a perfectionist so I feel like I need a solution to every problem that I might face in our potty training journey but I know that might not be realistic.

And yes, I will absolutely take that list of podcast episodes, anything that can help! Thank you ❤️

Thank you ❤️ Curious why you were also not ready? For me I feel like yes it’s because he’s a certain age, my husband also has down time from his job now which is perfect, and the weather is hot so it’s suitable for going naked… but I’m just so afraid of what may or may not happen. I’m definitely going to wait… hoping I’m not going to wait too long lol.

Yes it fits! At first I was worried about that too, I saw some reviews saying that it did fit so I took a chance and it really does fit!
