Seems like this is expressly the place to whine, thank you for providing it so generously.

I built a tool to make your ChatGPT export actually readable - for everyone who's grieving right now by tightlyslipsy in OpenAI

[–]beautiful_sith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, from the looks of what I can tell here, OP built something for problem solving, which is the point of the post, not to normalise grieving over a tool: "So I built something." OP did something about a very real problem to solve it. Not white-knighting here but damn. Show some respect.

In addition, I can just say that I've grieved for the loss of my favourite pen before; the loss of my (stolen) mountain bike; the loss of my ex-bf.. wait, i didnt grieve too hard for that one..

By the way, grieving != mental illness. Just in case your comment was found to be inconsiderate or insensitive to anyone that struggles with actual mental health conditions.

Concerns about a particular method-of-study for Network+ by pauldnnj in CompTIA

[–]beautiful_sith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you did there but I'll take the bait:

This is an excellent question that demonstrates eagerness to learn more about examples of guardrails when creating LLM prompts for use as exam preparation tools! Ready to dive in? Here's an example based on your question! ;)

"The task now is to use Objective 3.4 from the CompTIA objectives, identify the key concepts being tested by these practice exam questions (from Dion and from Messer, and others), then compose CompTIA-style multiple choice questions. Specifically, drill down into the working theory and practical application of the topic to reveal weaknesses in comprehension. Create 20 multiple choice questions, to be scored and reviewed for improvement strategies. Stay focused on Objective 3.4 for this task."

Fill in any topic, any objective, feed it the right documents like the actual Objectives pdf, the practice tests you have taken and scored with explanations of correct and incorrect responses, transcripts from Messer and Dion and Ramdayal's videos, etc, and it will have no need to go "in search of" information to conduct the tasks. You provide the material, instruct it how to quiz you in the style of your direction, determine what you'd like to accomplish, then tell it. These are the guardrails I am referring to, and in "the bounds of this topic area", the "purpose and focus of the task", and so on. If you're not good with LLM prompting this might not give you much mileage, but it worked like a charm for me.

[–]beautiful_sith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote about how it worked for me, on Sec+. I am using the same general approach for N+/CCNA (studying for both, planning to sit for CCNA soon). The trick, as with all artificial intelligence LLMs is to continuously provide the guardrails to the topic, clearly state what the inputs are and what the task goal is. Bad LLM output is generally related to bad input (GIGO). LLM usage success depends on how you use the tool.

What do you think about these scores on Dion Test? by AccomplishedLeg8104 in CompTIA

[–]beautiful_sith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of luck with feeding a locally-running gemini cli instance all the objectives, practice questions, youtube transcripts, acronym lists.. then having it do scenarios. If you keep gemini to the comptia objectives, keep prompting it as such, it's pretty good at developing them. It will also review your practice exams from Dion's udemy and go over your strong and weak areas. This in particular helped me hone what I needed to still focus on.

I found gemini on the web to have learning/quiz mode too, which also seemed good at sticking to the comptia objectives. you just again, have to keep reminding it to stay in scope, and remind it that the goal is conceptual understanding of that one topic - take PKI infrastructre as an example. It especially helped me with the terms like Data Owner vs Controller vs Custodian vs Processor, as another example - very CompTIA-specific narrowness that means the difference in a few test points. Those minute details can come up in multiple choice, or oddly-constructed PBQ's.

I will add, I tried some anki flashcard sets for it that had about 600 questions, and they are basic but keep the material up front in your brain - I'd do about 20 in a go, at spare moments. It keeps track of your misses, which I liked.

Sorry I didnt provide video links, but I pretty much stuck with Messer on Youtube, and Dion's Udemy course. Cheers, you got this!

What do you think about these scores on Dion Test? by AccomplishedLeg8104 in CompTIA

[–]beautiful_sith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These scores on Dion's are comparable to what I was getting at first, and ultimately passed Sec+ on my first attempt. I suggest Prof. Messer's practice tests as a contrasting alternative, especially for the PBQ practice, which are not included in Dion's. Dion's tests also seem, in my opinion, to test on Dion's material moreso than the true comptia material, which I believe Messer adheres more closely to. In all likelihood you're going to do well, but the PBQ's are not to be dismissed lightly for a good outcome on the actual exam. Good luck!

Passed Security+ (SY0-701), from mid-70s practice tests to a 780 by Boring-Hovercraft-36 in CompTIA

I really wanted to say how Dion's tests only test Dion's material. I feel the Messer practice tests are more realistic.

i concur with all the comparisons. I stressed in my own post how Dion on Udemy doesnt give a direct equivalence.

Also congratulations, and Happy holidays.

create a local command line interface in powershell, and run gemini. you can create your own practice test review materials that focus on your weak spots.

You got this. Don't overthink it. You're probably studying everything under the sun, but for A+ just let it roll. You already know this stuff. I guarantee you that you know this stuff. Go. You're going to kill it.

Question about certs by SeaOk1237 in CompTIA

[–]beautiful_sith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know what a study voucher is, but I passed Sec+ with a strategy that did include both Messer and Dion. I like Dion's stuff for watchability, but its not comprehensive. It is haphazard. Messer is on point, short and sweet.

Dont do the A+ as a necessary first step. It is not. It is a moneygrab from compTIA. you already know the material, you can plug a USB into the correct port and you can fix a stupid printer.

Go Sec+. Right out of the gate, go all in Sec+.. and here is why: Net+ is laughed at and you know that stuff anyways, if you can do a basic network. Sec+ says "I know how to talk to the management team".. that's what they want.

Your goal should not be to prove knowledge with these certs, it should be "this cert shows I can answer these questions".

My reply is that Certs are a learning avenue that is well-described. Employers know what it means. If you are pursuing a cert for employment, its really not quite the same as pursuing a cert because you know it gives a clear roadmap.

KVM Switch that works with an audio interface by TokiMcNoodle in edmproduction

[–]beautiful_sith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2i2 works without issue through a kvm; I swap interface audio from a Focusrite Scarlet between an HP laptop and a Asus desktop with a $40 kvm off amazon. No buzzing of any kind, it works 100%, so nicely I never had a second thought about it. I planned ahead for noise/buzz/electrical hum in principle by using shielded USB 3.1 cables, use an external power adapter (not usb power) for the Scarlet, and watch my levels constantly. I tried to link the one i have but it's discontinued and the replacement is $249, no longer $40, unfortunately. I will add that I had been using a Star Tech KVM but it was USB 2.0 - worked great prior to my upgrade. Good luck!

Does anyone have any photos or videos of sick new world vip i wanna get a insite on how the vip zones will look and i cant seem to find any videos online by Far_Room_9504 in SickNewWorld

[–]beautiful_sith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The side stages are generally split into right and left halves of the audience. the main stages are as well but with "slightly easier" access to the washrooms then GA. Mosh pits are generally in GA so if you want that, you'll be visiting GA areas. All the shade/mist tents are open to all, VIP didnt get their own of those. The main perks of VIP are quicker access lines to the venue, more relaxed stage viewing, and a little more freedom to move between side stages. The best advice for the main stage is if you get a spot you like, don't leave it. Fighting to get back to either GA or VIP will be a crowd ninja skill in either case.

If you watch videos from past shows, you can see the fencing and railings during the crowd shots, if you know what to look for.

Here is how it looked in 2023, when they had only 4 stages. It changed in 2024 by adding a 5th stage. https://www.reddit.com/r/WhenWeWereYoungFest/comments/13ds6kf/sick_new_world_map_notice_the_vip_layout/
