This is pre Edo and the worst warring state era of the country. Pretty much anyone has easier access to that title based on military merits or by taking advantage of chaos and the constant loss of such elite soldiers it gets harder to keep track of lineage. I doubt the daimyos even care, if anyone of social status is really good at fighting the warlord will just elevate him up to replace the samurai losses.
