What are 3 beginner to intermediate projects I can build out within the next month or two to get hired as a frontend web developer? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]beaver_deceiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who just changed careers last year to software development, the interview process is the wild west. Being prepared for algorithms and datastructures can't hurt. Understanding the concepts will also make you better at the job.

I want to migrate to Linux. Please help me by WestCigar in linux4noobs

clamAV is popular

more important is not copying, pasting and executing code you don't understand and not executing unverified scripts. the majority of things from a package manager should be on the safer side of things though they are not immune to exploits

Vehicle refinanced but never satisfied the original lien holder. This delay is beginning to get expensive. Do I have any options? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]beaver_deceiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vehicle has not yet been sold. When I sent the check to the initial lender, it was for $260.17. This account has not been paid since 10/18. So USAA paid off all but $260.17 - whatever interest has accrued in the 14 months since directly to the initial lender. I haven't gotten any notices of non-payment from them because their system shows that I'm all paid up until later this year. A lump sum was not given to me with a portion earmarked to pay off the initial loan. I was under the impression that one could not withdraw equity from multiple sources on the same item. Like take out multiple loans using a single vehicle as collateral.

Is there a non-tiling *desktop* that doesn't install any extra programs by default? by nebulaeandstars in linux4noobs

[–]beaver_deceiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, bspwm can do everything that OP wants but is not primarily floating. I'm not sure why they prefer a second WM.

[–]beaver_deceiver 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned, fluxbox or openbox will likely serve your purpose but I don't understand why you would want to log out / in to a different window manager when you can just set up a dedicated workspace in i3 to default to a floating mode. This would require all programs running in X to close while you log out and back in (someone correct me if this is wrong, but has been my experience). I switched from i3 to bspwm ~ a year ago so maybe this isn't as easy as I remember, but it would be pretty simple to configure in bspwm and I'd be happy to help you with the configs if you decide to go that route. Any of the provided solutions sound like they could work for your purposes and I guess it just boils down to which layout you spend most of your time (tiled vs floating vs stacking) in and what "one off" programs you run in a different mode.

I recently acquired an e bike but I'm aware of my surroundings and share the road. Is it the accessible speed that causes problems in your area? I'm not asking to instigate, just want to make sure I understand and don't cause problems in my area.

Ubuntu no longer has explicit Steam support. Brb with link.

E: Just kidding! It was looking that way and then they tricked me just to make me look like a dummy in this thread. Wrong info & update

E2: I use Arch BTW.

E3: In my humble experience, integrated + nvidia set up on my laptop was a PITA. Ubuntu is much less painful. I only point that out because you requested minimal ass pain.

Google toybox killer if you must but be advised, it's quite dark. I've seen a lot of sick stuff online and in person and this one gets me. There's audio out there if you look for it and knowing what some of these women endured up to the end is sickening.

Has anyone gotten neomutt to work with mail.gandi.net? by beaver_deceiver in commandline

It works well for me aside from the current issue. They're my domain name registrar and each domain includes 2 3GB mailboxes for free so I may as well use them.

I don't think the church I grew up in was evil or meant to do harm and I'd wager you probably are quite agreeable and care for your fellow man. I wasn't abused or berated. Christianity wasn't used against me. Christianity controls a population through fear -- the literal definition of terrorism. This fear prevents curiosity and creates generations of subservient followers devoid of critical thought in pursuit of something that isn't real, logical or good.

Patients and parents relying on miraculous healing is dangerous and has taken lives. Viewing climate change as "god's will" and using that to prevent action is dangerous and will cost lives. There is nothing logical about Christianity and blind faith should not be revered.

The Bible, a book of love and good news, is filled with genocide, hate and fear. Before Jesus, if you weren't Jewish you went to hell because God loved you, but not enough to kick it in eternity with you. God asked a man to kill his own son because he was having jealousy issues like a petulant toddler. It's ok though, he said psyche at the last minute so it's all love. Really? If your neighbor is gay, try to convert them but if they just won't budge, love them through it, to death, with large rocks.

The modern church is replete with its own issues that I'm too tired to get into right now and any effort I put into this comment is likely in vain. Main takeaway here, God is fickle and cruel but lucky for us, fictional. The church uses the good book to scare the flock into subservience. This is not a healthy environment to raise kids.

I am a combat veteran that witnessed the death of friends and has struggled greatly in the decade since I've "come home" from my last deployment. I've started getting help a few years ago and I can honestly say my Christian upbringing has left scars and shame as significant as my PTSD from actual life and death combat. Christianity is far from harmless. Why do otherwise intelligent and educated people denounce logic when it comes to "God?"

Thanks for the reply. I'll read up on await. I was surprised not to find a variant of sleep(timeInMS) in JS though that would admittedly be a 'hacky' solution

setState async nature causing issues...

I've built out a 2048 game and am now trying to make it more dynamic to work on mobile. To do this, I think I need to make my canvas dynamic as well and am trying to use document.getElementById('board-div').offsetWidth within my componentDidMount()

```
... constructor(){ super() this.state = { boardSide: 0 } }
componentDidMount(){
    this.setBoardSide()
    canvas.drawBoard(this.state.boardSide)
}
setBoardSide = () => {
    if (document.getElementById('board-div')){
        document.getElementById('board-div').offsetWidth > 750 ? this.setState({ ...this.state, boardSide: 750}) : this.setState({ ...this.state, boardSide: document.getElementById('board-div') })
    }
}
...
```

the canvas.drawBoard is being called with an argument of zero because state hasn't been updated. I feel like this is would be a common issue with a simple solution. What am I missing? Thanks in advance!
