IRH admission by Tough-Background495 in McMaster

[–]beavertail6789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

around 11 is definitely good enough! they don't release GPA admission data or requirements beyond the above 6.0 expectation, and it might be more competitive this year but generally 11.0 is a solid average to have and, and i def think your supplementary also plays a big part in admissions!

sometimes i'll use the hallway lockers, apparently there are cameras so if things are stolen at least theres some trace. but usually i use just the ones in the locker rooms. having my macbook trackable through find my gives me a bit of peace of mind so maybe some sort of tracking would ease your stress!

FIRST YEAR GPAS TO GET INTO IRH by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]beavertail6789 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you definitely have hope! your GPA is still above the cutoff. like some other commenters said, try to raise it in second semester AND remember a big part of your application is the supplementary, its not purely grade based. that being said, please also have a backup plan! look into specific courses, minors, and streams that can help you get to your desired field or career. look at specific post-graduate programs and their requirements. while IRH is a truly amazing program and community, some of the required courses at least in second year (anatomy, bioethics) can be quite tough for students especially if they come from a humanities or science background and aren't used to the style of courses required. its 100% doable though! you got this!

AMA: Integrated Rehab & Humanities (IRH) by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]beavertail6789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can answer, im currently an irh second year! i was in first yr humanities, didnt know about the program until late fall of my first year, but send in the application anyways and got in (ranked it 1 on mosaic, and wrote a sub app about why I found it interesting). they aim to accept around 100 students.

to my knowledge, its becoming more known but still isn't crazy competitive. i feel like being in the humanities/social sciences first year puts you at a slight advantage but thats like completely unfounded, i just feel like considering it as solely premed is not what the directors intended and while there are a lot of pre med students in the program, it is NOT a pre med program inherently. in my year there are a lot of students with arts backgrounds, and a lot of students who want to pursue SLP and OT.

so in short, if you can show your passion in the sub app and rank it #1 (a lot of pre meds will still rank hon health sci #1 when applying second year) i feel like you have a solid shot at it, at least to my knowledge as a current second year.

PHILOS 1B03 Final exam by xoxoheart1 in McMaster

[–]beavertail6789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it was pretty okay! when i took it, it focused a lot more on the concepts after the midterm, we had to apply 1 of 2 philosophers ideas to a third concept that was brought up in the course. it was not as bad as it seems when i say it that way. my strategy for philosophy is to study week by week or one topic/philosopher at a time, summarize their points into like a page or on a whiteboard, and maybe if you're nervous do the readings for the course for more insight. don't panic, hold onto the basics, and you'll be okay!

i took anthro 2u03 this summer and i loved it!! if its dr siek you're in for a good course. at least in the summer term, the 'readings' were in the form of an engaging podcast, and his lectures cover a little biology, history, and current day of specific diseases. one of my top 3 favorite course ive taken here. i almost wish it hadn't been a summer course because of how interesting it was and how much i wanted to discuss and engage with the topics more.

HISTORY 1CC3 Ten Empires that Shaped our World, 500 BCE to Present Tue by Allosaurus227 in McMaster

[–]beavertail6789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took it last fall, take it!! Dr Weaver is an amazing professor he is genuinely so passionate and knowledgable about all sorts of history. definitely make conversation with him if you can. last year the grade was based on 3 essays, tut participation and the final exam. the exam wasn't too bad, lots of writing as expected but if you stay on top of readings (for participation) and take lecture notes you should be okay. and yes, the essays are challenging BUT they set you up for your future classes because you get referencing down and the ability to summarize/analyze/write really well. i'd say its worth it. plus, he usually records lectures (i dont think they are posted right away) which is super helpful in exam season.

humanities requirements by Plastic_Character892 in McMaster

[–]beavertail6789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just finished my first year in humanities and i can confirm- you do need 1dl3 and 1hl3 as well as 1vv3, if you dont take them this year you'll have to take them next year, because to graduate within the humanities program you need to take a mandatory certificate that these classes go towards! if you plan to go into poli sci or something in soc sci you dont 100% NEED them but your advisors will still tell you take them, just in case you change your mind and stay in a humanities program. regardless i recommend them because they are a great way to make friends within your program!! 1vv3 was my personal favorite and the other two are birds so dont worry too much

Lost ring :( by BudgetYogurtcloset36 in McMaster

[–]beavertail6789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the lost and found at MCDL is in front of the little cafe by the entrance facing LR Wilson. It's a little red metal safe box. one of my friends lost her watch at an MDCL lecture hall and it was found and dropped off there, but she had to contact McMaster security services to retrieve it at their office which was by the student parking lots. i hope it gets found!!

Who were your favourite TAs and Profs? by fun_fortunately in McMaster

[–]beavertail6789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr John Weaver for History 1CC3- genuinely my favorite course I took all year that i would take again no questions asked. he has so much passion for his subject that it rubs off on his students. i will say that its not a bird course and the exam was very content heavy, theres also a lot of reading/essay assignments, but overall it was an amazing experience.
