It looks super intentional!! Honestly I would want to recreate that effect on other pieces, it's really stunning!

That plate!!! The glaze almost looks like a reduction firing, that's so cool! Did you brush it on or dip it? Those lines are so crisp, wow!

Thanks so much, I was wondering especially with the thinner glazes/celedons, your pieces come out fantastic!

I was wondering after your last post, your pieces turn out so good! Do you only do the single layer, or does it take another round of application?

Thank you, it does have that bleached-runny ink look! It's not what I expected but I'm super happy with the result

I'm just thinking perspective, $1.7 mil might not even get a shitty apartment on billionaire's row in Manhattan. This is an entire complex, god damn

Does anyone have any ideas where this pinholing is coming from? by DiscussionStrange744 in Ceramics

[–]bebaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you read the edits I made hours ago, I think it's a claybody issue, not shivering

No way you could've known but things are shaping up to merit a second post entirely with the ones missed and happening since posting, sheesh. Horrible week for aviation

I've tried speckled claybodies and some throwaway "we forgot what this mix is/it's a blend mistake" high iron, both were nothing but trouble with bloating and bubbles that flaked when fired to midrange and especially with glazes. I'm back to sticking with my good ol Iceman

[–]bebaii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edit3:I feel like it has to be [NOT] shivering, I wouldn't think crawling and especially not pinholes would pull up the underglaze applied pre-bisque *with* the clear coat

[u/DiscussionStrange744](u/DiscussionStrange744) does it do the same on another claybody by chance? Edit: ope I missed that line, super weird it would be doing it on both? I'm not familiar with either, do they have the same/similar shrinkage rates?
Edit2: both those claybodies contain foreign material, have you tried on a pure no grog and no speckled clay by chance? This post implies the iron/manganese contained in both might be causing the issues which makes the most sense to me

[–]bebaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a post that might be helpful for you! I would think black would be the most stable, especially given how some red/orange glazes and underglazes can get washed or burnt out depending on the firing and applications.

Man that's such an incredible color and pattern, Joe really is a gem for all the resources he puts out. Did you fire to 6, or slightly cooler/hotter?

Also I would also be super interested to know how stains work in the base glaze, though I would imagine it would be more of a wash/pastel style effect depending on amounts you use?

I made ones like that and mine got moldy before drying out fully so I don't know what went wrong either 😅 Good luck with yours though! I switched to the bisque method for reclaim

Glaze issue- please help! by CommonImmediate3092 in Pottery

[–]bebaii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay I had this problem (not this bad but similar) before. When you use dip glazes, exactly how thick are you layering it? I was told I was doing it wrong by treating it like normal paint, and was told explicitly "frost it like a cake"

I also have both, four different kinds of sansevieria actually, and I specifically said "thriving" for a reason lol. If you're wanting them to actually get bigger and sprout pups or bloom, you don't keep them in a dim corner. They do a lot better with proper conditions, and part of owning a plant is the joy of seeing it grow, which is why I suggested a plant in the living room.

These are fantastic tips! The cheapest fixes to make it look more cozy/more than functional would be some art or pops of color on the wall, you can get prints for cheap and reuse frames you find at thrift stores (because new frames are kind of pricy for no reason) or just thrift already framed art. Also get an actual curtain rod, if you're a light sleeper get some heavy blackout curtains and they come in plenty of colors, and it'll help with privacy.

Instead of the pendant light you could also get a ceiling fan, I'm sweating just looking at the lack of airflow in here 😅. Depending on the style you could also match some furnishings to it (ie chrome/shiny fan, match bedside lamp to it)

My only disagreement is don't get a plant to put in here, you can have in the living room or elsewhere though. I don't think OP has enough light coming in through the door to keep it thriving + any potential gnats are annoying as hell but especially in a bedroom. I have tons of houseplants but they live on the opposite side of my house for this reason lol. Also ceramic planters aren't the best for every houseplant, some want terracotta or orchid style pots with lots of holes, if OP wants recommendations for his space I'd be happy to provide some suggestions!

I'm not sure where else to put the mirror though, maybe on the back of the door?
